Greets all!
Ok.. ships and their strongpoints and weaknesses.
Starflier= The best. no way to win vs this
Well honest.. the basic consideration you need to do when choosing a ship for combat is agility vs strength.
Agility is a pretty simple concept to explain. The better the ship moves, the easier it will be to keep an enemy in sight. This is esp usefull if you use your guns "brawler style" (look above post of me for explanation).
Strenghts is twofold.. first there is the firepower of your ship. Basicaly the more good hardpoints the better, although some ships have weaker power plants and cant support many guns properly.
Second is the issue of toughness, means how many hits you can take before becoming debris. This is more important than some may think, as it can be the deciding factor in an even fight.
An often overlooked aspect of ships is their size and shape.
If your ship is a big blocky freighter, it will get hit often. VERY often. Even by noob pilots . As a rule of thumb.. the smaller the ship the harder to hit.
The shape of the ship is the most underrated aspect. Look at your ship of choice. Is it tiny viewed from the front? Then try to stay heads on. Is it big from there? then turn away from enemy fire.
Look at your ship carefully.. notice from which angles it has the biggest profile.. and try to deny your enemy shots from that angle.
A final consideration is personal preference.. no dont laugh at me. Some pilots do much better in a given ship than others, while in another ship the reverse can be true.
Anyway.. ships of notice:
Anubis MK2 (VHF)
You will encounter it often on void, as it has the most powerful stats of any ship around here. It can carry many guns, backed by a powerplant big enough do fire them. Its 3 torpedo mounts make it a powerfull bomber, and its armoured like a mountain. On the down side, its nearly as big as a mountain too. Its triple wing configuration makes it a big target from almost any side angle. Basicaly, if a pilots gun aim is good, and he has good timing with torps and missiles, he will be devastating in that ship
Conqueror (VHF)
This is a bit like the "brother" of anubis. It has only one torpedo slot, but an additional 20 speed. This is your ship if you want a powerfull gunship! Its still pretty big though, but has a rather small profile from the front. Its armoured almost as good as anubis, and as a nice addition usualy takes less damage from missiles and torps because of its dagger shape. The angles its the biggest from are above and below. This is perhaps the best ship for these bloody mass brawls that happen sometimes.
Discoverer (LF)
This is easily the fastest ship on VOID. Its turning compares more to a VHF though, and its hardpoint configuration makes it difficult to choose a setup which realy has a punch. Like the conq, its small from the front, but big from above/below. A nice thing is, that on afterburners it goes FASTER than any ship on cruise. So if you have a disc, the days of ppl cruising away from you are over
Eagle (VHF)
The eagle is perhaps the best all around package on VOID. It isnt the best in anything- but neither the worst. It turns pretty well, has ample speed. its hardpoint configuration is good too (although the turrets position makes it near useless), the power plant adequate (although you usualy want to mount some missiles or nomad blasters on it to safe energy).
Its main drawback is its hull, which despite the 9+k listed goes down pretty fast. Especialy missiles have a devastating effect on its hull. Shapewise its a small target from almost any angle, as its a short stubby ship.
Hammerhead (VHF)
The "Wildcard" ship. Its stats are far less powerfull than any other ship listed here. It cant take a lvl 10 shield (which means you only have about 50% of the shield strength of other ships) and it doesnt have lvl 10 hardpoints either. What it has is small size, awesome agility, and a torp mount. If you can use that right your game.
Horus (LF)
Definitly the most agile ship on void. It lacks in overall offensive power, but is small in return. Its front profile is somewhat wide but flat. It has a very fragile hull though, so once your shields are gone every hit gets you into trouble. Its tendency to loose its wings when hit will sooner or later annoy you, as the wings carry 50% of the firepower of that ship. (and even a single missile hit usualy causes it to loose at least one wing).
Nomad Valkyrie N1 (VHF)
(Hehe sorry ent.. forgot that one)
This ship always leaves the impression of missing something. Its speed is good, its turning adequate (not unlike the eagle). It has a pretty good power core, leaving you with much energy to waste at your enemy. It isnt as big as the anubis or conq too..the real problem are its gun slots. It juast has 5/1, and the turret is positioned in an useless way. So basicaly you only have one slot more than a LF!
Its biggest shape is directly from the sides
Sabre (VHF)
Still one of the most beautiful ship models
Its a bit like the Eagle, but its turret DOES fire to the front in effect giving it one usable gun mount more. on the downside, its a little less agile than eagle, and has a bigger profile especialy from the sides. Still its a good "jack of all trades" ship too.
Spartan (VHF)
This ship is best described as "strong offense weak defense". It has similar gun mounts to sabre, but more speed and far better turning. Its hull is a bit on the weakish side though (DONT believe the hull rating listed in the stats.. the first hit takes almost 50% of the hull, even if its just a lowly wasp CD). What will give you headaches is the power plant of that ship. Its way too small to handle its weapons loadout properly. Usualy this will force you to use nomad blasters and cannons, with all the drawbacks these weapons have (look at my description for guns). Its thin as a sheet of paper from front and rear, but big as a house from above and below. If it seems familiar to you.. the model is a sith infiltrator from star wars episode 1 (darth mauls ship).
SIDE NOTE: This ship has a rather high polygon count, meaning its composed of far more parts graficaly than other ships. This MAY cause much more lags if some of these are present in a fight.
Thoth (Freighter)
Im not joking. This thing can pull its weight. It has more gun&turret mounts than any other ship you can buy, and it has the strongest shield generator of any player ship too. On the downside it turns like a whale, and is pretty big from all sides too. Yet, if your a good pilot, you can give any other fighter a run for its money in this ship. Its a wise pilots choice for trading in areas with much enemies and pirates in it.
So thats it for now.. any questions left?
*waits*
ok class dismissed then

I'm gonna show my ignorance here
If you look in the controls, there are a load of weapon groups, similar to MechWarrior, but i can't work out how to assign weapons to them. Any body know how to do this?

Yep!
In options menu, assign a key to 'Fire wep group 1', 2, 3 etc
Also a tab further assign key to ' Activate wepgroups '( same number as the fire wep groups u have)
In game u can now select and activate a group, all guns should be not used in a new group and u can select the guns for that group here in th right bottom corner.
E voila

Conqueror is bigger than Anubis MKII and it is easier to hit, the only advantage of Conqueror is that it's faster and its endurance against missiles.
The triple wing hitbox and skin of Anubis MKII make it an easy target only as long as its shield is up, because it is covering the whole ship like a bubble. After the shield of AMKII is down it is an tinyer target.
Stoertebecker and entropyslayer thanks for all this. It is extremly useful.
Thanks very much again.
Can somebody give some advice for fighting in Thoth?
I have problems with freighters. If i use turret ability (turret view) then i cant turn the ship and i am open to missle/torp attack. If i switch to normal mode then i lose contact with enemy.
PS Where can i buy a Thoth?

Nice guide guys! Mes, you can buy a Thoth at monkey planet in Unknown 2. I have one on my trader account but I try fighting with it but it is too prone to missiles etc coz of its heavy turning. It is even uber heavy turning with engine kill. Is there a freighter that can hold more than a Thoth, I need to make some money lol.

Jop Improved Humpbac "Feuer Zeuge" has 450 cargo space. I have it. But has lack of firepower 2 guns lvl 9, 3 turrets lvl9 and 4turrets lvl7.
