I have a good idea for a tourney....a capture the flag game. I was watching the paintball games on ESPN when I thought doin that in ships would be cool. First the moderators of the game would be on opposite sides of the playing field (namely Sparta, because of the planet locations) Each team would start on their side and work toward the opposing side to meet the moderator at the planet and get a commidity (the flag) and procede to return to their side. While the other team tries the same while trying to keep their flag safe, and vice versa. People could stand guard and try to stop the opposite team from capturing and returning the flag. The team with the flag could pass it through trade, so noone but the moderators and the team would know its location. The team to return the opposite teams flag would win, but that would be hard since someone could stand guard and kill them or they could be ambushed by the others flying around. Their would be no limit to where you could go except to stay in the system and not to fly out of range up or down. Its just an idea i had...maybe we could give it a try, itll improve teamwork amoung a clan and its not just the average pvp. Sounded great in my head.

If using a comodity.. it would require player looting to be on... so we'd all have to do Armoured Transport CTF hehe
On second thought, i could be the flag.. it'd be great seeing all that death and carnage going on around me
option 3 is not to take me seriously at all and wait for anothers wise words

no, you would be given the flag from the moderator then go back to the starting point or you die....not to be looted because you die the flag dies with you starting the other team over. Then they would have to go back and re retrieve it. No looting, just killing or evading.

Most FPS games have a form of capture the flag built into their multiplayer options, Battlfield 2, unreal tornament, etc, but they are all team based games, run using tickets.
Unfortunatly, there is no option built into FL for this, and as Const has poited out this can lead to a lot of problems, arguing over rules, and would be hard to administrate.
CTF games are great fun, and you can only win by team work. It would be great if this could be achieved with FL, but i think it would not be possible to do in FL as it is.

Hmm, if it's a Commodity, that would mean the opposing team would have to scan every ship to find the Flag. Possible, but rather inefficient since fighting will ensue. Some kind of visual marker would be needed. That would require some fancy Coding.
Instead of a Commodity, make it a Player. The 2 Mods/Admins would be the Flag. They can be in their Ships(which are unique) and parked outside each Planet. When a Team makes it to the Opposing Teams planet, they fire on the Ship and it becomes "Taken". The Mod/Admin Forms on the Ship that has "Taken" it and that Ship proceeds to make the "Capture". When/if that Ship dies, the Flag Forms on the nearest ship. If the nearest Ship is of the same Team as the original Taker, then it is still Taken. If it is of the Opposite Team of the Taker, it is "Returned". The Mod/Admin can use the Console messages to continually Update.
There is another problem with this though, how to keep track of who is on what Team. The Teams would have to be clearly defined for everyone, perhaps the Admin/Mods can temporarily adjust Player Reps? Make one Team full Navy, the other Full Criminal. I kind of doubt they can do this though without making it permanent, in all likelyhood Players would need a New Character where such Rep manipulation doesn't matter to them.

This sounds like a great idea and sorting it out will take a bit, but I would definitly like to see it happen...
Perhaps you should get together with some of the Event team and sort out the details?
Just a thought, as they know some of the problems that run amok in the events, and could probably point them out so you can avoid them in yours.

ok well first of all the flag is NOT a ship its a commidoty, once the flagged ship is destroyed then the flag is lost hence the MODERATOR will reissue the flag to the first one of that team to re-reach him or her. This will NOT be an all out battle open to everyone, this is for clans only. The two clans will meet, and the rules will be known. There can not be any cheating because the only way to get the flag is through a moderator. All cargo will be empitied before the tourney begins. The point is that the best team will finish first. No marker will be over the flagged ship only the team and the moderators will know of its location. The other team is to kill all opposing clan members until their clan mate can reach the other base, thus eliminating the chance of the opposing team reaching their goal. But because of the portection needed their will probably be escorting clan members to kinda give the location away. Only the moderator can say who won after scanning the ship and seeing the flag once the starting point is crossed. Thier is no opposite team system to work, their will start with 2 flags at the opposing bases. The clans will race to the other end to retrieve the flag without dying then race back without dying. Both will have same objective, if no one kills then its an all out race, but who would let the opposing team enter without a fight. So, in conclusion my clan would probably use our fastest pilot with the flag and our best fighters as guards, and the others as hunters. Yall are making this harder then it really is....its like hide and seek (hence the question) but with a twist. GUNS and A HIDDEN FLAG. All comments are great i like the feedback, but saying this is impossible is just silly. Together we can get this tourney goin, i am excited about it, its simple the better CLAN wins, because they are the better........TEAM!!

Hmm, ive looked at the possibilities of this event, and well without lootable ships, we cant have a really true CTF,
so as in every event we will need to mutate it, now due to several problems wich i anticipate, using admins ships as flags will be a dissaster, specially in the mid fight, cause the formed admin will get a head ache and will disturb the fight by bumping into things, so this idea is flawed i think.
further more, if to use rep fix for each event, it will make the event very complicated and buged.
i suggest we do the next thing:
we make a comodity as the flag, and empty the cargo of each ship, after that we jetson it near the base, so it will be visible etc..
now the players who come near the base can track it into them, (members of the team wont be able to do that since there shud be an aproach limit for the teams to their base)
now the player with the flag runs away, and in the middle can jetson it or die with it.
if he jetsons it, then there is a track war, to see wich teams tracks it back first,
if he dies, the flag is reseted by the EM, mod or admin at the base, and an anounce is following.
the aproach distance to each teams base will ensure that no track wars will apear near the bases, and if the player penetrates the gate keeper
and steal the flag
NO CRUISE SHUD BE AVAILBLE WITHIN THE APROACH VECTOR OF THE BASES, only thrust.
that shud fix most of the bugs that been brought up around here

Well thats mostly what im sayin...no ship would be the flag....like i said. A commodity would be..like i said. But their would be 2 flags. Not one that can be passed along....one for each team that is recieved through the moderator. The rep fixes will not matter because their will not be any docking once you reach the opposite planet you are given the flag by the moderator, then you have to fly back with the flag to your own planet. Once the planet is reached the winner will be announced. The object is to stop the opposing clan before it reaches the planet it started on. No tractoring so no lootable ship is needed. Once the person carrying the flag is killed then the game for that clan kinda restarts, but not for the other clan that did the killing. They continue with their mission to reach the planet they started on with the flag in their hold. Its becoming very confusing with all the add ons read my last post and the event is pretty much summed up as easyily as possible. NO TRACTORING, NO LOOTABLE SHIPS, NOONE BUT CLANS AND YES CRUISE IS ALLOWED UNTIL YOU CAN REACH LIKE 20K OF THE PLANET. Its like a tractor mission but insteead of having to kill that person someone gives you the marked commodity and you have to make it back while being shot at by a clan who dont want you to make it back to your base, and you have to remember the longer it takes you to get back the more of a chance the opposing clan has to get back first.
