At all who have had or have yet to give comment regarding..
"How do you play Freelancer properly ?"

You Guys are All correct in a way !

The game of Freelancer really only supports “one thing” well…
That “one thing” is Freelancing.

The Void Mod has always tried to keep that same thought at the zenith
of our master plan.

RP comes in many forms .
Many would say that RP in the truest sense can not be consistently adhered to in Freelancer because one can switch identities and
uber up almost instantly with nothing more than a friend to transfer you the means.

A sort of “Pseudo Role Play” is really what occurs here in that
the participants agree more or less to the rules of engagement
and to a deeper degree a code of conduct to follow.

The source of conflict lies in the negotiation (or lack thereof Rolling Eyes )
of what will these ROEs and/or COC should/will be.

What we want everyone to remember is that the glue that holds us
together is really the continued freedom to play how you like.

As long as the Main Focus for the Void remains Multiplayer Choice of activity, then all other aspects of this game can be worked out
by those involved.

Freelancers , we welcome you to.....

Role Play
Dot Kill
Blow Stuff Up / Blow Off Steam
Hold or participate in Events of various kinds (with and without RP aspects)
PvP
Explore
Escape from the Real World
Develop your own ever so cool sense of Community and Friendship

The players come and go… as do the ideas.

All are welcome here.

Scream On!

Frac

I like the "Escape from the Real World" bit best of all....(How Sad Is That!) Laughing Well said Fracture. I get to shoot at stuff and let off a bit of steam as well as some stimulating conversations and discussions in the forums. I like it here on this particular server with ALL you guys - the good, the bad and the ugly. Despite the differences of opinion its exactly those "differences" that make this site what it is. I have experienced some real nasty behavior on other servers. Whilst things can get a little out of hand here, on the whole things tend to calm down and you cant get away from the draw of the Void....I dont care if you all want to hang out in Sparta and blow the living cr*p out of each other - it just means there is more free space for me to explore...*(Yippee)* Cool Take care, stay safe - Peace, Out - Zeb.

Each game (in the same way as our toys) is Escape from the real world every time.
One missing word is relaxation.
Well speach bro.

EDIT: Isn't crazy, how elderly men and woman fighting over there? Laughing

Well said, Mr Fracture Sir. Thanks.

May I add one thing: Peeps need to not just remember but keep in the front of the mind at all times that no matter how you play it or how much you get into it, it's just a game!

There are so many things in the world to take seriously. So many things out there that give us so many reasons to come here to blow off steam, as you put it, or take a moment of escape. There's never any need to bring that in here and take the game so seriously as to make it seem like life or death.

As a game, there's no need to take it so personally. In a game where people "kill" each other, I think we need to remember that doing so is part of the game and it's not personal. Let's keep it that way. Let's keep the Void a place people want to escape to, not escape from.

I would have to agree with WatchWolf in his post. I personally play this game to wind down and relax. I think the idea of RP is honorable and in the full spirit of the void. In turn I will say this..once again I will state this I have made some errors in antagonizing other players in the past ($5000000). I've always tried to stay in the realm of good taste. Remember folks it is a game....RP is fine...but there are real people at the other end of the computers. Do you know the age of your opponent!! Wink Say GF..... trash talk a little but keep it reasonable and within the proper spectrum. We are all here to have a good time..why cant we!! Laughing

Guys I have some questions to RP.

First - I play all online games mostly only with roleplay....I need to feel Im there, chatting about footbal I can everywhere. Here is written something about roleplay (and some ppl speak about it), but I dont see any enforcing of rp.

So, pardon me, didn't read all the forum topics (I know, its crazy to answer one question again and again and....so sorry), but, what is the direction VOID?

Example to roleplay: I understand, many ppl dont even know how to play their role, so I'm not playing it all the time. But when I do it, I get bitching, OOC (out of character) questions in public channel, or simply killing.

Playing pirate, having X tagg in name, that gives me all the time chances everyone gonna start shooting without a word. Come on guys, you can say something, flying around me, asking something (it will end in fight mostly, but playing before it makes the fight more worthy. No need to mention, that its not one on one, but everyone in radius.

In case I am the hunter, I met two guys, ordered them to stop. They ran away. Met them again, ordered them to stop again - tried to run. I disabled cruise engines of first one and started writting. What I got was gunfire. Had to kill him. The second one was all the same. Then they started bitching on private channel.

Does this mean, noone here wants to play? Guys, Freelancer and VOID gives more chances to play, then you ever know. You cant have fun with chatting or killing each other all the time. Thats the way to leave Freelancer after some time and leave the VOID dead.

I had idea about some special Tag for roleplaying characters. You want to play, take character with this tagg and all will know, they wont be answered OOC in public channel by you, and the same tagged players will know they can play with ya. You wanna rest by RP, take character without this tagg. Its poor solution, but its only idea that can survive Im afraid.

Btw RP tags I dont mean something like [R] or [X], [H] ....everyone takes these tags after asking what is it for. He doesnt need to understand what it brings andf what you have to do, he wants it to "feel like a real hard hitman".

What I meant was something as for example [RP] Carthoo [X]. Rp can be changed for any better tagg....

@ Carthoo

Very interesting points raised there Wink

My background was RP for many years playing AD&D  BAsic -> Expert -> 2nd Edition for those old enough to remember the dungeons and dragons days.

What I found though, was although the game is RP, there were sessions which really were not RP. They were hack fests. This seemed to depend on how everyone felt and we could quite easily slip into RP between a full on "kill anything that moved".

The latter used to come after some of us had had a bad day, were stressed etc etc. So although we liked to RP it did revolve around how everyone playing was feeling. So, I guess this helps to answer the question a little, some players like RP and some dont, however, we have always tried to cater for all.

That said, due to the limitations of Freelancer, we cant go full hog down the route of RP, simply because the game was built on the basis of a space shooter/fighter game mainly.

Tags in Freelancer are a difficult point because some dont understand them, even now. Still we get complaints from players that they are killed by [X] tagged players, so its hard to work out a common solution on tags.

Nice points tho  =D>
