ok well at first, it wouldnt let me connect to any servers. No servers even came up, i though ok thats my firewall. So i turned it off including the windows one, still to no avail.
Then i rad somewhere that if you unistall your anti-virus software your ok. I had mcafee, so for some stupid reason i uninstalled HEY PRESTO IT WORKED! But then i thought, why have i got no ati-virus software on my brand new laptop. So i installed AVG, BUT HEY PRESTO< FL STILL WORKED
Also i couldnt get my FLMM to work, so i manually activated the mod.
it works fine now |

I run Vista i did the same as Recoila few months back it all works fine but activating the mod is a little bit of a pain (Wish i still had XP) LOL
when i first tryed the void mod i could get in all the systems and players where there but nothing on the mod had names, it wouldnt show me where people where ,couldnt see commodities, it would only show the player name and the vanilla systems i had to guess what guns to buy shields thrusters it was really bad but now it works fine with the same solution Recoil said if it doesnt i have no idea |

From what I have heard on other boards, if you are having problems with Vista and freelancer, you do need to disable the current Anti Virus. It seems that the solution is to download AVG and use that instead.
Free AVG anti virus link
In time im sure this will sort itself out, thanks for the other posts and help. |

Strail, that is just if no servers show up on the list in freelancer. Unistalling your anti-virus, for some reason, makes it work. AVG seems to also keep it working fine AND have an anti-virus (having an anti-virus on vista seems to act ina similar way if you had a firewall on XP blocking FL, however AVG doesnt seem to affect it in the same way as other AV's do)
@Pi: That UAC is REALLY annoying lol.... it checks, double checks, triple checks, o it takes ages lol |

Hi,
at first I am new to Freelancer
I am using Vista Business, online gaming worked from the frist time on I started the game.
But I had the well known "no-NPC-speach-bug". I could solve it by applying the QuickFix 1.0c patch. Hope I could help anyone with the same problem.

| every once in a while i am kicked from server and have to log on and this is frustrating when im in the middle of a high paying mission and get kicked and lose it all so vista creates a few stability issues but other that that its just fine for me even with the vista anti virus software on. |

I have Vista Home Premium;entirely new system to me; I do understand why the guy with Vista buisness edition had no problems connecting to fl mp,It seems that verwsion has better internet related components than do the rest of the vista versions. I,m not comfortable with uninstalling the Built in Virus protection ,which seems to be Norton's,Also not comfortable with avg-free version, its so outdated its not even funny. Did however find the posted info about disabling the UAC seems promising;I will look into this for sure ,Oh and running as Admin/That parts a no-brainer/LOL . Has anyone bothered to check with Microsoft,They claim it will run in mp form with no disruption of virus protection(but as far as I know There probably refering to Their crappy version Windows Defender), But since I cant seem to get a straight answer on this other than them showing Freelancer as a Vista compatible program on their listings,I'm still researching it. If anyone else is able to get mp to run without disabling the virus protection,I would be more than interested in knowing how they did it; Or any other tips refering to vista home premium pls let me know.
Thx guys Good Flying..........................................RebelEagle |

Never had problems with Vista and FL here.
(Vista Home Premium, Vista Bussines and Ultimate)
Nod32, Kaspersky, Jetico, Kerio WinRoute and ZoneAlarm tested aswell.
Altough UAC, Windows firewall and Defender are disabled and FL is always run with admin privileges by default.
Lol, on the other hand, I do have a lot of problems with VIsta.
No, that is not true - Vista IS the problem. |

have disabled UAC/ Have uninstalled all of Nortons internet security/ Have turned off windows defender/ Have accepted fl as a trusted program in windows firewall;Previously firewall was controlled by Nortons;and when i had XP the windows firewall allowed me to see the global server list as well as me running the fixit utilities from Avanquest with no problems. But I still can't see the global list and now the game locks up while in the mp screen? /any suggestions?.....pc already feels naked as a baby/LOL. and run game as admin. with it showing a compatibliity with xp,Vista did that part on its own I only added the admin part.

Well i now know how to make Freelancer Mod Manager (FLMM) work on Vista...
Download FLMM v1.3 Here
Then find the FLMM icon (once installed) right-click it>Properties> Compatability and make it run in compatibility mode for "Windows XP SP2"...
i did it, no problems makes turning on and off mods easier now

You'll find that 80% of all issues concerning fl on vista are solved using compatabiliy options and elevated privlages. This goes with most everything else. You realy need to update and add to the codecs that come with vista though. The ones that come with vista cause problems in fl and other games. Klite codec packs would be a good codec option. These packs work very well in vista.
I have stated in other forums and I will say the same here. The compatability options and elevated privlages solve nearly every compatability problem with vista. All vista users should make a habit of runing programs in compatability for xp sp2 and with elevated privlages wether they think the program needs it or not. For the rest of the ones that compatability and privleges doesn't fix, there is a vista compatability toolkit available to download from microsoft technet that helps you create compatability profiles to help you run the programs you can't normaly run.
Start reading up on it here.
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/windowsvista/aa905066.aspx
You can get the download needed at the above link but I'd advise you start reading up on the subject first.
Hope this information helps. |
