I heard of this 2 months ago or even earlier ... i dont remember.First i thougth it was a rumour but now its true.
Ah i can still remember the good old days when global server was running without any plans to be shut down.It was great back in that time. But now our primary consirn is on how will new players be able to know the game and on how to connect to it.

The main concern is, who would buy freelancer now anyway? It's an outdated game, and there are plenty of other possibilities. Heck, when I found it, it was entirely by mere chance. I happened to be looking around, and found one of the last ones. It interested me, despite the crappy graphics, I figured I'd try it. Better than I thought, but would the normal buyer think that now? How many freelancer boxes have gone unsold? How many are still on the shelves? The main problem is not the GS, it is that few to no one is going to buy freelancer, opting instead for newer games. What we need is freelancer 2 already.  >Razz

Yea I heard about Lancer`s Reactor site and I understood Sad bad news Sad
I found other site that well... has a forum about Freelancers and many other things like Lancers Reactor site has .There are many registered players and guests on this forum.  I`ve seen over 20.000 in the same time . I`ve seen someone from Discovery Server that posted about their mod and server . Why don't we do the same ? There are lots of players that are still playing FL too and visit this site I`ve found ! we might attract their attention too !

This is the site : http://www.battleclinic.com/

There is a button for Freelancer on the site and in the button "forum" is a forum for Freelancer as well .  I think we can make the new mod known there too ! Admins can decide  to announce about void server mod there too, is only an idea !

Thanks Xardas .. I am a member on Battleclinic as well.
They are a great bunch of guys but their focus is primarily on "Eve" now.

Battleclinic is a very hands on site for the hardcore space gamer.
Cool ingame Freelancer resource stuff there.

TLR is more of a consortium of Players. Modders, Coders, Techs , and Operators.
The Primary Focus is Freelancer.

well i would not put much stock in the global server as it has not been updateing for over a month. also the ideal that you would have like 1200 players would be to low more players than that are on the void alone. then add in all the other big servers there are stil alot of players out there. but like frac said we must work together to keep it easy for new players.

you would think that an email campain to ms would be effective if you could get players from all server to get involved. not just the few modders and server staff but all players. its an ideal if we get a good address to email we could start such a campain to at least get the codes we need to keep thing going easy.

any way thanks frac for the info as always your looking at for all of us.

Ah yes Battleclinic is good, but as Frac out it its focus is on "Eve".

But as a isad earlier, maybe if it is possible rediredt people from official site of Microsoft Freelancer to TLR,then it could be a bit easier for new players who are searching for Freelancer on net.

Ofcourse this is just an idea, and i am sure alternate solutions will be available soon.

Lets hope so. :-<

A while ago there was several petition drives to get FL2, for example:

http://www.petitiononline.com/FLPet/

http://www.petitiononline.com/flcode/petition.html

Now, M$ don't give a crap about us, and these petitions had no chance, but if we aim our efforts into something more achievable, there is a slim chance it will work.

As I said in my last post, we need M$ to change their official FL web page when they officially end support. This is the page that new game buyers will go to looking for patches etc. We need them to see links leading to TLR and to the server list :

http://www.aa-flserver.de/flserverstat/topservers24h.php

Plus instructions on direct-connect to MP servers.

Maybe a couple of alternate links too in case these are offline. Just something to get these new players to the community. A single web page will cost M$ nothing. Send them to us we will do the rest. Yes there is still new players, as I said I still saw FL on retail shelves in November.

As i read through the topic i feel sad too .
i have some ideas to tell fellow voidians that i think can help in this regard .
I think any player administrator or not (he must be able edit video to add sentencecs or may be some one else will do the necessary editing)
who have good and fast net and have a handycam or camcorder (whatever you say) that has good quality capture ability should
capture some live PVP actions in EFZ (during PVP event) or whatever that system going to be called in NEW VOID MOD.
AND edit that video so in the video VOIDSERVER.COM address appears and some info regarding VOID mod and FREELANCER
game should also appear in the video. But it should be edited carefully so that the video's attraction doesnt get spoiled.
(after all, all this will be done to attract new players)AND POST this video on youtube, veoh, google video and any other upload site.
And maybe new videos can be made with regular intervals of 2-3 months.(suggesting)
And us who are playing the game on voidserver we should give address or link of voidserver.com in different blogs and forums that we go to ,
so that others can know that though freelancer globalserver is down but players can still play on voidserver using direct connetion.
Long live void server,
long live Freelancer,
Long live AoF,
Phantom_4444.

Yup, I'm waiting on activation on TLR. I was thinking of waiting until the forums were restored, but I guess converting those custom databases to vBulletin are gonna take longer than expected. I knew that custom forum s/w would be a problem someday... :-<

Ya, I been around like... forever. Only the DA beta testers played FL before I did! Better to be famous as a helpful old veteran than infamous like a Quinn...  Smile)

Phantom, thanks for the suggestion advertising is always a good idea, but the biggest problem with the Global going away isn't with the savvy players but rather the casual players. Here's what happens. John Doe likes space games and buys a FL off the discount rack or used S/W store or whatever. Maybe it's on a dusty shelf or even installed on his PC. I have X2-The Threat installed and unplayed on my PC. It's waiting, see? So... he plays the SP game, likes it, finishes it, and decides to give that multiplayer button a whirl. Clicks it...
...
...
no servers.

It's at this juncture that, if he's like me, he'll get on M$ web site looking for a patch or info WTF. THAT'S when we HAVE to get him to our community. IF all he finds @ M$ is a dead link or no page at all, chances are good he'll give up. After all, the game is five yrs old, eh? Whooooo could still be playing it??

THAT is why the Global down is such bad news, those casual players are the lifeblood of all MP servers, as hardcore gamers move on to newer games these guys get the FL addiction and they're the new blood. I've seen the cycle too long, and I've seen it interrupted and what happens. We need to get every FL player who comes online to know what to do and we need M$'s help to do this, OMG help us. The Official web site is the easiest (for M$) path to do this, not the best mind you, but the most likely to have a chance of success.

That's it in a nutshell, thanks fer listening to my rant and HELP US SAVE FL.

Scream on!

Actually, it was some dumb hacker that forced M$ to do this, by attempting to hack into M$ thru GLS, but April was supposed to be the end. We lost time to organize a smooth transition, now we're scrambling. *&$^#!!! hackers!!
