so does the [X] tag entitle you to do anything you want? here is the scenraio...

some guy with an [X] attacks me. i am in a freighter, but its not lootable. he doesent ask for tax. he doesent get anything. he just attacks me.

ok fine, i write down the name and when he switches to a freighter i write that down.

i see said freighter and kill it 3 days later, and take the cargo.

do i have to have an [X] tag to do this?


i brought this [X] [R] issue up a while a go and i was pretty sure the admin (who responded to the thread) said i could pvp anyone i wanted as a freelancer. is it not pvp when i attack an at with a toth? or since i looted him its against the rules?

To answer your question, NO you do not need an [X] tag to kill another player.

However, continously killing other players, or acting like the [R], and we will ask you to apply the tag or reduce the activity.

I am assuming you are discussing me Jprophet, and i have a few things to add.

Although I fly both trader and pirate characters, I keep them seprate, even to the point of defending myself except in extreme cases.  I sometimes group with clanmates and other pirates while I trade, but this is for chat purposes.  Furthermore I was not on the Void 3 days ago, I only played wednesday and thursday of this week, and only got on my pirate after your unprovoked attack.

I was in a lightly armed armoured transport, and was docking at the time of your attack.  You neither acknowledged me nor gave me a chance to defend myself.  This is usually considered rogue like behavior.  Given the circumstances, I beleive you may have simply mistaken me for someone else, but I assure you today was the first time I have even seen you online.

As far as breaking rules go, I never accused you of that, although a clanmate may have.
Remember, you can attack other freelancer or even traders if not [R] tagged, but it is frowned on by most and you stepped on some toes with us today.

I have more than one name
Your clan attacked and destroyed one of my ships without asking for tax or gaining cargo previous to me meeting you in space today.
Since there was no roleplay involved in my first experience with your clan, I wasnt really applying any.

anyway, its not very rouge like to kill someone as an act of revenge. as far as RP goes imagine this:

I was sitting at my favorite booth in the bar on Freeport 9. I was tired and wanted to make planetfall but I was behind schedule. I needed to steal another load of diamonds or gold if I wanted to make any cash. I had been jumped earlier, well it was almost a day now. My ship was pulverized and I spent 4 hours in the ER and then another 6 filling out paperwork. This of course was after it took what seemed like forever to get tractored in. Anyway I was looking at my Optical computer waiting for my key lime pie when I noticed that on the log of pilots coming and going from space, one of the fellows grouped with the ******** who jumped me signed off. Just a blink of an eye later I noticed that a large cargo ship with a sarcastic name signed on. Now this happens all the time, one pilot comes and one goes at the same time. A good number of pilots fly under multiple aliases tho, and so I was wary. I threw on a tracking program and waited for my pie, and made a bet in my head as to wich would come first.

The pie won. When I was about halfway done with the pie the alarm on the OC went off. "Ladies and Gentlemen", I said in my best carnival voice, "we have a winner". The evidence rang in like this: Thug lands ship and goes offline. Freighter logs on and makes money. Freighter looses several levels on the Pilots rep list. Freighter logs off. Thug logs back in. Thug's rep card boosts several levels instantly.

"For sure", I said in my head, "Either its the same guy with 2 rep cards, or hes paying him off. Either way I got what I need to know."

Lets both be grown up and admit the truth. With me as a freelancer and your clan as [X], i would be getting attacked by them/you like it or not.

i suppose to solve the problem i will just make a freighter with the [X] tag just to kill pirate freighters in the future. untill then the admins ruling is fine with me and i will be sure to heed the 'warning'.

as they said, you can kill anyone you want, but that frieghter is not a pirate freighter, dispite what my other characters are.  You can kill it, but hounding me may be a bit touchy and rogue like. I say we just split the pie, don't fire on my freighter unless I (meaning me, specifically, not a clanmate) give you a reason to, and play on, It is a game after all.

The only reason for me or a clanmate to get angry was the manner of your attack, which I saw no reason for.  It made me and others angry and went past whatever roleplay I stick to while flying.  However, seeing now your reasoning,  even if i was not on before, I can understand why you attacked, and do not consider it rogue-like.  I feel we may have both made this more personal than it needs to be, and for that I apologize.  I don't like to see a fellow player angry at all, and especially at what I believe is a misunderstanding.  I think the best course of action we could take would be to let this go.

here is the thing dude if they are a x tag and you are in a trader they are suppost to tax you not just kill you they are not a rogue. a real pirate would ask for tax. this sounds like a new player trying to beef up his frags by killing easy traders.

use to be when these noob pirates did this the real pirate clans would come in and kill all of them before the navy could and tell them tax or lose the x tag because they hurt their rp as no one will pay tax because of crap just like this.

shooting and killing and not giving a warning is rogue play, and doing that in a untaged ship or a ship taged other than a rogue is very rude and not accepted by the true players here on the void.

oh and dude he could not kill you while docking, because you have not been able to dock kill on the void for years. once you lose controll of your ship it can not be hurt people make me laugh when they attack after in the docking ring or say that on the forums.

And by dock killing I meant that I am sitting in front of the ring about to dock, I have hit f3, the rings opening and everything, not that I was actually being pulled in/not able to move, its that split second before you actually lose control, and seems to carry over to when you lose control for me.  I have died three times while not in control of my ship, i'm wondering if it may be due to my client side lag.   ?

Here however its a moot subject I suppose.  I'm ready to let bygones be bygones.

dont really care what 'it is to you' as far as RP is concerned, i RP'd my actions out in this thread. If you want to RP a trader in the forums who continuously hands millions over a pirate without evaer taking any of his own profit i would like to see that, but havent seen it yet. As my character explained he doesent really care if he gets the guy who killed him or the ally of the guy who killed him. I have an entire thread explaining my thoughts towards looting freighters, but in a nutshell "If you cost me money I could care less about pvp stats, I want to cost you money back in retaliation." its called "A reason to kill..." if you want to read it. Finally on that note one of the oldest military tactics there is is "cut off the supply lines". I didnt cut them off but makde a shady ambush.

@ Ryus, yes, never personal. no hard feelings. If your clan was going to attack me by all means attack me. If you look at the op i wasnt naming names just asking a question. I sure don't want banned so I asked.

And as far as the manner of the attack, thats business never personal. From a RP perspective, a fair fight would only happen if forced. If youve never read the art of war i suggest you do so, i pull my tactics right out of Sun Tzu's playbook.

oh and of course i wasnt going to fight 3 very heavy fighters in a freighter. Thats not Sun Tzu, thats common sense.
