Please help the Pigeon!!!

Ok good people i am totally stuck.... I have tried everything mentioned on this site to get FL to connect to the Void, i have even uninstalled my Eset smart security, i dont have windows firewall nor windows defender running and it still gives me the server error telling me i cant connect... I have tried changing the target of my FL shortcut to C\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Freelancer\EXE\Freelancer.exe" -s85.14.217.82:2302 and void does appear and even gives me my 49 ping and tells me how many players are on the server but i cant get in!! My broadband is o2 and im using a ethernet connection not wireless through the o2 wireless box 2... All ports are good to go but still cant connect.... I even went outside to help a granny across the road incase i needed to do a good deed for the day!!  :D

The only other thing i  can think of is if Vista needs a certain service running cos i have tweaked my services to stop the hungry ones running....

Any help would be appreciated...

Are you running FLMM in admin mode?
Do you have a router and have you forwarded a port?
And do you use a firewall and have you made an exception for FL?

Yes i am in admin mode, it cant be any firewall or security cos i have just uninstalled nod 32 to see if it was that but it still wont work, i have done a deep registry clean also.
I dont think its the o2 box i got with my broadband cos it never does this with anything else like Utorrent or any other online games and besides the ports are open...

I can see the void in the list and even get a ping and i can see how many people are online!!!

EDIT.. It may be handy to no im not a noob to the void or windows vista and am a pc technician so the obvious issues have been illiminated!!

Ok lol. Well these are mostly the most common causes. But seeing that you're a PC technician yourself, and you don't know what's going on, I really can't help you.

OK seen this before, what Anti-Virus are you using? Try disabling it and see if you can connect then you will know.

Bet you are useing either Avast, Norton or Mcafee.

I'm using NOD32.... Its definitely not my Anti-Virus cos i uninstalled it before and tried to connect to Void but still no luck!! I've disabled IPHelper in Vista services along with windows firewall and defender and still no luck...

Could it be anything to do with my account being deleted cos i have not been on Freelancer for about 6 months?

I copied my old FL account id into the box on first start-up so maybe i need to start again with a new FL id!!

It doesnt matter about your accounts, we have a few backups, so once your up and running I can xfer these to your new account.

I dont run vista, but im asuming you have gone through the vista set-up (in this board) step by step? If you cant connect at all I am pretty sure it will be either:
1. your not running fl and flmm as admin
2. your AV - i note nod32 isnt listed as white on the AV list, mind you its not listed at all iirc
3. Your firewall/router

The key is, once you can connect to the server, anything after is easy to fix, anything before is tweaking with the router/firewall/AV/Authority to run.

Would be helpfull if other vista users would jump in and offer some help  :-?
As a side note, if/when you do get it fixed, please post the solution so others can benefit

I could make another topic, but hell that doesn't get me anywhere either so I'm just posting here... Same problem, no antivirs, windows firewall off, defender off, port on router open, flmm and fl in admin mode, IPV6 off, def/fw/ip helper off in services.... AKA everything i could find in topics about possible problems,... No dice :/
I tried instlaling on my old pc (winXP) and it just runs like a charm, so i'm sure it's a vista problem and not router/network related. I've been looking at other processes that might be messing things up but can't seem to find anything there either.

On a side note, maybe ppl can tell what version of vista they are running? small chance but maybe there is a specific problem to vista versions (in diffrent process and service stuff). I"m running Vista business. (btw antoher ITer here.. telling me to reboot won't be it  :O) )

Hi bird,

I have Vista as well and had tons of trouble. This link from Strail works, but you must be shure Vista is compatible on your pc.

If you have Vista 32 you can't have any more than 3GB of memory or Vista will hate you for it.
I have Vista 32 and use to have 8Gb, took alittle of those guys out and now i have 2GB and guess what it works.

Also Nvidia cards seem to have trouble with Vista. They have alot of "nvlddmkm" problems. They say they fixt it, but my card still doesnt work. An older Nvidia card might do the trick. I switched to ATI and that one workes as well.

Try downgrading your memory to 2/3 GB and follow Strails steps.

@ Daves2hd, exactly same problem as me m8, what i dont understand is that Void does show up in the server list and even gives my ping and tells me how many players are online but then wont connect!!! Weird!! All the services i have running should not conflict either.... I'm running Vista Ultimate...

LMAO @ MAVERICK!!!... Tho i do have to say this is the only problem i have had... Luckily!!

@ Infinity, Vista is definately compatible... Tried everything in that list yesterday before posting this, my ESET NOD32 is in the white list, i do have a Nvidia card but never had a problem with Fallout 3, GTA5,  Farcry 2.... etc...etc.. And all Drivers are up-to-date!!!

Think i'll install a 3rd HD with XP on it, seeme like the only way considering i've even phoned Micro$oft and they seem to think im stupid even tho i'm a certified MCSE!!!

Gonna try doing a bare-bones run, cutting of each service one by one to see if it works at any point... I will post my results to help others...

Microsoft sucks.

Please don't go spending any money on an extra HD m8. Many people here came before you with the same problem, and they have all been sorted out sooner or later. I'm sure there's a way to get you sorted too.
