(Sorry this isn't exactly Freelancer related, but it could turn that way if you give it a post or two. I've been here before, you old guys should recognize me. I'm Watchwolf's manchild.

Figured this might actually be a sure-fire way to get a hold of you seeing as I haven't heard from you in a while.... *chuckle*


Heard there was some kind of fallout that needed cleaning up after your last visit. That's all I was able to get out of Erin, so I wouldn't mind a little elucidation as to WTF that was all about. Don't really want to go into much more than that in public. I supposed I could PM, but you know me... ... ...

Things are pretty much run-of-the-mill in my neck of the woods. Economy around here still sucks like a singularity. Scraping by. Selling my Washburn (Bantam Series BB5DBL 5-String bass) to bring in some extra cash. the $400 it brings in will help a lot. Don't worry, I've still got my Peavey Milestone II International Series 4-string and the Ibanez GSR205BK 5-String guitar (that you helped me buy 4.5 years ago) and don't plan on selling either one very soon.

This next part is directed both at my dad and anyone else who cares to check it out.

Return to the Void, eh?  Ah, I won't say it's out of the question, but it also is not something I had actively planned on at this point.

I'll be honest in stating that, for the most part, I enjoy playing games on my console systems than my PC. Recently, I just traded in my Xbox360, 20GB HDD, 5 Controllers, Vision Cam, and 20 games for $465 in store-credit at Game Crazy with which I purchased a brand-spankin'-new 120GB PS3 system. As you might be able to imagine I've been playing that thing 'til my eyes bleed on a nightly basis.

PC multiplayer online gaming has always kind of frustrated me because of all the extra little things you have to do to make it work. You need this specific software placed in this specific folder with this specific file that you danced around by the light of the 3rd full moon of the season while Mars is in the house of Gemini... most of the time I get frustrated and give up before I even get into the game.

Last time I tried to run Void with Vista... ... well... I wound up having to use the dual-boot capacity of my system and run it on XP. Now I'm not sure if that is an option, because a while back when running in XP mode, my MacAfee and Windows updated, then all the sudden my MacAfee wouldn't function properly on my Vista drive. This was unacceptable as my Vista drive is my primary drive, the one I use for 95% of my online activities (like paying bills...) and cannot afford to have it unprotected. I had to turn back on Vista's default security measures and spent many frustrating hours in chat with "Customer Service" (and I use the term extremely loosely). It was only about 6 months ago that my MacAfee managed to somehow sort itself out and is now working properly again. After all that hulabaloo I'm EXTREMELY hesitant to fire up my XP drive while online. I use it mostly for running old PC games that Vista has a problem with.

So, unless someone can tell me that there is now a super-easy way to get the VOID to run on Vista, I'm not sure you'll have the pleasure of blowing me out of the black any time soon.
Oh, and I'd need my dad to send me his Merc Board control mod/layout... last time I tried to configure my controls myself.... .... heh... well, let's just say it could have been prettier...

...if my dad ever sees this... .... .grrrrrrr.....


As for the "how are ya" part; Not bad. Just been trying to get by man. Money is really tight around here (as I'm sure it is everywhere) and just making sure I'm bringing in enough money to keep my wife and I afloat is beyond a full time job. I'm now working 3 separate jobs (for the same company) to make sure that I bring in a 40 hour paycheck each week. I started just doing Heating and Air work for this company, but now am cross-trained in Carpet Cleaning and Air Duct Cleaning, just to ensure I have enough hours to get by. It's not what I want to be doing with my life. I really want to be playing music for a living, but anybody with a reasonable grasp of reality knows that it's virtually impossible to make a stable, livable, sustainable income in the music industry without a lot of money to invest or the biggest stroke of luck in one's life. We're trying. We played Woodshock again for the 6th year running and have video on youtube at www.youtube.com/user/freqbass   Check it out, comment, let me know we're horribe. (In case you're wondering, I'm the bass player, the guy on the right with the Columbus Crew longsleeve Away Kit (black and Gold, baby! (they say gold, but it's really yellow...oh well, GO CREW!))

Married life is the same as ever, really. The wife and I are doing fine when we're not worrying about money.

That's really all there is to tell, unless you've got a specific question. Heheh. Never good for talking about myself when asked. It's when you DONT' want to know that I'll go on and on forever.... ... *chuckle*

download the current mod
right click, and unzip it as administrator
right click and run the mod manager as administrator
and it should be able to activate, if it is not done as administrator there are often problems.

I remember those steps from before. I also remember there was some stupid problem that kept popping up. I wish I could remember what it was. Maybe I'll search through my old old old posts and see what it was I was specifically having a problem with. I know I asked about it here and was given much good advice that didn't seem to help. Not to say that your advice is not helpful, I just think I remember trying something similar a year or two ago and it winding up no-joy.

To be honest, my primary goal at this exact moment is getting my father to communicate with me. He's pretty damned bad about answering he cell phone and always seems to call me back right at the exact moment when I am incapable of answering my phone, due to work or band practice.  I hadn't even really thought about getting back into the Void until it was brought up here.

It's nothing against the game, the Void, or the community, I just want to say that right now. I never really had much of a problem with anyone or anything here. You guys are great. It's just not really my cup of tea, to be frank, and I initially started playing simply to hang out with my dad who lives 2000 miles away.  
Me, I'm a First Person Shooter guy. Hop on a Playstation3 and put in SOCOM : Confrontation and I'll shoot you in the back 27 different times before you ever even figure out where I came from.
Flight sims, however, are not my strong suit. I have a record of 15 Kills and 78 Deaths in Online Multiplayer in Tom Clancy's H.A.W.X., and that was from 10 matches on a CONSOLE, my strong suit. Put me in a flight-sim on a PC with no flight stick and no controller and I'm naught but stardust.  Never been able to adjust to the mouse-and-keyboard setup for flying, and as I have mentioned earlier, money is way too tight for a Good quality flight stick for my PC, and I just can't justify the expenditure.

You guys are awesome, I just get so darned frustrated when I get blown out of the black before I even know there's someone behind me. FORGET trying to land a hit on anybody, even with a missile. I'm not much more than a target with wings, and even though the idea of the game is Comradere and fun, it's a bit hard to have fun when half of the time all you're looking at is a graphic animation of your ship blowing up. *chuckle*
