I think the bottom line is that if people didnt give out money, the trouble causers and no real interest players will leave. You are then left with people who have traded, explored and made their own money and not surpringly, these players tend to be better for the server overall.

Whilst it's not my position to be telling clans what to do, if they recruit new players who havent played long on the server, they will also find that these are players who dont really care about the clan or what it stands for - its just an easy way for these people to get money and kitted out...then they disapear and change chars.

All in all, a tip on a good trade run is better than giving them actual money. Theres enough safe areas and their reps are set ok for them to explore and get a feel for the mod, so they really dont need free money.

Finally, if your asked, tell them that begging for money is forbidden, as they can now see when they log on with their characters

Can we make begging a banning offence like harrasment?

Whilst I appreciate that we wont tell clans what to do, I would like to raise the point made above by Strail.  There are certain clans - one in particular that will remain nameless for the moment, that offer the Best Ships / Best Weapons and a MASSIVE startup cash insentive. Now I know from personal experience that AoF lost out on several recruits because of this, and again maybe, in retrospect, these people were not the sort that we wanted.  Would it be considered restrictive to enforce a limit to the amount given to join a clan? I understand that you would not be able to prevent people from donating equipment and such, but to my mind a ceiling of 2 million would be enough to set up a half decent Clan fighter and they would not all be flying around instantly with Nomad Armour and Laser 3's.

I feel that by giving too much away the retention value of a player is greatly reduced. They didnt have to work for it so there is no real pride in achievement - however most who do it this way are just Frag Monkeys anyway and all they are interested in is the /fragdetails.  I appreciate that this is a shooter server, but making it into nothing more than a shooting gallery dominated by a few players removes most of the fun of this place.

i agree with eagle one ! Begging for money takes the enjoyment out of the game ! Why play it if the game is so easy ! where is the sense of adventure gone and the hard work ?
