Pirates gave up piracy because none of the traders would pay.  This was after the traders complained at being raped for not paying requests for $1million and such. At this time it was difficult to negotiate with the pirates as they tended to make it a case of "pay up or die"- no quarter given. This was particularly harsh on those that were just above the kill line and made it hard going.  Now the reverse is true.  All that is being asked is a set "fee"of 200k.  Some will pay but more are choosing to run  - some have adopted some pretty low tactics too! Its a traders perogative to run.  Gone are the days of paying up to a single pirate - it now takes a force of numbers to corner the trader to get him to pay up, and at 200k a session it seems hardly worth it. It wouldnt be that difficult if the traders actually paid up!

One tactic I had hoped to develop was an advancement on a "System Raid".  A group of pirates lay seige or blockade an area taxing or attacking anything that comes by and stealing their goodies - once stocked up they can then rendevous with a "carrier" (ie A Very Large Transporter) and transfer their loot.  As long as the VLT stays safe, the raiders can continue to raid until the VLT is full. I am unsure how successful this sort of thing would be.

@Hockey: Despite your "newness" to the VOID your suggestions have not been without merit and it would appear that your experience of other gaming scenarios plays into this insight.

@Nuke - give the kid a break!

For the Pirate RP to work again maybe the tax limit should be upped and maybe we should consider the RP of traders and pirates a little closer despite this being a "shooter" sever as opposed to an RP sever.  Remember - It takes two to tango.
Cheers - Zeb

I'm glad you think so :) I've been on the 'Serious' Roleplay scene for some time now.

I fully believe that taxes of 1Mil would be completely fine, considering the fact that if you do a days worth of work and research you can get far more than 1M PROFIT per trip.

People need to stop whining and Roleplaying poorly. Roleplay is supposed to be stepping into another person's shoes... would you REALLY run from a Pirate, risking death, or would you pay the small fee and go on your route? Lets be reasonable.

A good historical perspective on the [X] tag and it's RP issues on Void can be found here:

http://www.voidserver.com/modules.php?n ... ht=#157004

A sliding scale for Taxes might be a good thing, keep the $200k lid for those under level 50 but a sliding scale for over level 50. Something like...

$.5M @ 50,  $1mil @ 60, $2M @ 70 $3M @ 80 and $5M @ 90.

ROFL - point taken.  I'm sure that he meant no offence and whilst still finding his feet I do believe that Hockey does have some gaming experience from other sources so its not as if a noob turned up and said "Why can't we all be pirates and this mod is not as good as my last mod..etc etc etc.." You get the idea?

I agree with Shonen, and I can see Hockeys point. Sure "Jump Gate and Lane Sitting" is not fun for the victim - its not supposed to be. Sometimes its the only way for a Pirate who is solo or with one other to actually "catch" players for tax or worse!
It does seem a tad unfair and if players were to pay up on occasions then there would be little need for the gate sitting tactic - from the Pirate perspective it is an excellent Ambush tool - lets face it, if NPC's can do it then why not?  What is unacceptable is Gate Pinning - where a player docks and then you sit outside and toast his butt every time he shows his face - not cool and the sign of a rank amateur.

One of the best things to do - and in my "neutral" and tradermodes I keep a close eye on my HUD on the list for who is online and where they are likely to be, and if I wish to avoid being Gate Sat, I change my route or at least get prepared to fork out 200K if asked. Lets face it, you wouldnt drive your brand new shiny car into some of the worst places in Glasgow and park up with a map in your hand on a dark Friday night, cos one of two things is likely to happen - 1. They think your a gangster, armed to the teeth and so they watch you from inside doorways and keep out of your way.  OR 2. They decide that its not right that you should have this car and they decide to take it from you by hijacking it or wrecking it whilst robbing you at the same time....! ( I know the analogy is a bit thin but you get my point? )  Dont go to places where you are likely to get jumped, and if you have to, at least go prepared for the worst.....like the motto says - "SCREAM ON!"

Zebulon, I fully agree that 'Lane/Dock Sitting', or sitting at a dock or trade lane, waiting for some one to pass, is fully acceptable. Docking Ring Camping, waiting for someone to launch from the planet, on the other hand, is not. This is one of my main concerns.

And yes, I get the analogy :P Clever... I myself do the same, always checking the chat list to see who the X's are and where. If they disturb me or my friends, I dock and launch HockeyMaster195 instead of my trader. I usually get some help from ORION, n*o, and the other various 'Good' clans.

just give a warning, if they say no then kill him, no need to begg for tax, no pay means death of your trader.in my opinion then. and i still dont see why you shouldn't tax if asked, then you will lose your cargo wich means profit. and thats usually more then 200k.

Yes, if TRADERS run they are absolutely retarded... almost always. If they see a break that just couldnt fail, go for it, but if not... Pay the 200k... Put yourself in the Pilot's shoes. Would you run and risk your life or fig up some pocket change and throw it at them?

:D Just thank God that there are no IRS operators on the server or we would all be in a lot of trouble...... ;)

@madderz - I love Glasgow mate - dont get me wrong - I lived off the Byres Road in Hyndland (The "posh" end of Partick just up from Cottiers...!) for quite some time and I am a Paisley Buddy......  Maybe I shoulda said "Feegie Park"?  :D  I loved to hang out at the Tennants Bar to watch the Rugby.  Got my head kicked in at Ragnarok down by the river and love to listen to live music at the "Wee Houfe" near the Gallowgate....! The Glasgow Jazz festival ROCKS as does the Easter Music Festival - BURDS and BEER.....yeah!!!   I remember one of my neighbours, who was a bit of a ponce, bought a brand new sports car - Porche or some such and he bored us all to death about it.  One night he parked it up by the BBC Scotland building along Great Western Road opposite Byres Road.  When he came back they had nicked the car.  It was found in Maryhill minus the wheels, seats, stereo, engine etc etc.....We tried so hard not to laugh.  Last time I saw him he was driving around in a battered old Ford Escort.....
:D  ;)  <):)
