rule 1: no cheating;/hacking

rule 2: no swearing

rule 3: no under level killing

rule 4: no harassment

rule 5: have fun  ;)

faliure to abide by the rules will result in disciplinary action, ranging from  moving the player ship to a far away system, to a permenant ban. Just play the game and have fun  :)
My opinion anyway.
I can understand that that is a simple way of doing things, and I used to agree with that system. But I feel that we should have a system that doesn't change with different people's opinions and feelings. One admin/server guard could punish someone in a different way compared to another admin, if there isn't a set punishment for breaking a specific rule. It's not anybody's fault, it's just a fact of life that people are different and think differently.

If we decided what the consequences were for breaking specific rules, admins/server guards would no longer need to decide themselves, and no player would have an excuse for being surprised or angry by a punishment.

To me, that is more simple than the system we have in place now. Thoughts?

I want to bump this back up the the top again, because it requires further discussion.

100% agree Stoertebecker.

Many rules=confuse. VOID&Admin are the guards and they would punish ppl that break rules acording with the fault, circunstances, etc....., and looking for the best to the VOID. If they make a mistake, they are punished too. That is fair enough

Rules should be up to date, but keep them simple and lean.

Don't wanna see Paragraph 109, Clause 3, Article 5, ...,
the purpose we are here is a game, not a political debate  ;)

I would prefer to leave the punishment to the judgment of the
server staff. So 'other', since 'yes' and 'no' do not fit.

have fun

Bump, since it looks like that even the majority of people who said "no" would like the rules to be updated. Also, let me repeat myself:
Not to mention that this isn't about adding new rules, it's about making the existing ones clearer.
I prefer to keep the rules updated and checked like...Every month.
The rules aren't that bad, they don't have to be rewritten fully but they could be cleared at some point to make it clear to all what we expect from all players to do and not do when on Void.
It's hard to set up rules so they don't offend/scare people away from the server but they must also be correct to keep the peace high.
I vote 'yes'

Guys guys sorry to butt in as im not playing here but.....

There only needs to be one single rule, yep just the one......

"No player shall diminish another players fun on this server"
2 warnings in game or by pm and a kick, followed by a ban if it continues.

There that covers eveything.

Cheats
Swearing
Ganking
Gangrape
Excessive spamming
Lagging on purpose
Explioting the mod
Etc etc etc

Simple :)

Well said m8 100% agree with you ;p

Ruin other mebers day is the worst.

The Aurelius case was more than discusting. like a prison break. he just simple ignored the "justice" and came back to the server at banned period LOLOLOLOL
and he isn't read this forum or he just didn't comment anything while we got anger. I don't care it's about his ISP or he hacking anything. he doing everything to ruin other players day and he enjoying that im sure. i don't care how old is he or what is with his eyes. spendable money for internet but no money for glasses...
(im really sorry i know it's offtopic)

And Yes we needs some rules update with list of the punnisments:)

@ Ent: sure, that sounds good at first, but think about it for a sec: that rule would be wide open to abuse, because it can be interpreted (and implemented) in hundreds of ways.

For example, yesterday me and a clanmate were fighting someone. It was a 1 vs 2 fight, but after maybe the second fight, said player began saying "idioti" - my knowledge of Romanian is really lacking, but even I can tell from that that he wasn't having much fun then :P Now, if your proposed rule were in effect, should we have been punished for fighting him two-on-one? All players should be equal, after all. Or, if we didn't have fun at but were offended by his remarks, should he be punished as well? Not even Disco is that strict :D

So, in my opinion, it's better for the rules to be clear on what offences are, and what possible punishments there are for them. As you can see, "will be banned" can mean a permanent ban, or seven days, or any number of them: the only thing for sure is that the offender will be banned for some time.

"...The Greek adjective idios means “one’s own” or “private”. The derivative noun idiotes means “private person”. A Greek idiotes was simply a person who was not in the public eye, who held no public office. From this sense came the idea of “common man”, and later “ignorant person”; a natural extension, because the common people of Greece were not, in general, particularly well educated. The word was borrowed from Greek into Latin as idiota, then into French as idiote, which in turn became a loanword in English in the thirteenth century. The milder meaning of idiot, “ignorant person”, is now considered obsolete.
To summarize: The word idiot came from Greek, idiotes, through Latin idiota, and then middle French, idiote; meaning, person in a private station, person without professional knowledge, ignorant person, common man, from idios, “one’s own, private, peculiar....”

Webster’s Word Histories.
Springfield, Massachusetts:
Merriam-Webster Inc., Publishers, 1989.

That language is not for anyone, but the word as you see is in English to - not that much altered.
In ROMANIAN - we kept the "ignorant person" meaning alive.
And I am sure that this is what he wanted to say.
Maybe that is due to the general behavior in space and willingness of some to gang and have fun just the way they don't want others to act with them.
Shortly put - you were doing exactly what you all complain that they are doing to you.
And that is an expression of ignorance - towards "gentleman's rules" and "server rules" that you all hurry to quote when in inferiority.

When did you ever hear me complaining about a 1 vs 2 fight? :-?

Oh, and thanks for the linguistics lesson :P I still don't know why he would call us idiots even before we said a single word, but hey - that above was just an example for why I think the "No player shall diminish another players fun on this server" as a sole rule wouldn't work.

Idiot means Ignorant person in french too, FYI mister draugr.

And he wanted to make an exemple of that "no player shall diminish another players fun on this server", that it is not a good rule, mister Die volker.
And i'm pretty sure that he called our draugr idiot cause most new players in void think that they mustn't be shot in a shooting game.
