[quote="HockeyMaster195";p="168258"]Zebulon, I fully agree that 'Lane/Dock Sitting', or sitting at a dock or trade lane, waiting for some one to pass, is fully acceptable. Docking Ring Camping, waiting for someone to launch from the planet, on the other hand, is not. This is one of my main concerns.

1.
Once you undock from a Base/Planet you're invulnerable for exactly 5 seconds. It's more than anyone needs to get control of the ship.

I was a Pirate once, long long time ago. Can't say pirates even exist anymore.

The problem isn't with the tax amount. It's the amount of players that are actually willing to pay tax once been defeated etc.

BBD have done numerous such system raids. None of them were really successfull as the players still refuse to pay and rather log off as stated before. Only way fixing this as I see it is to present a new rule about actually HAVIG to pay tax once you get beaten. (Or taxed as a trader which doesn't really matter)

2. Yes, there are fewer pirates every day. Most of them have adopted the rogue RP as it's pretty much pointless to bang your head into a wall trying to tax somoene when all you get back is 10 more people showing up and making your gameplay a PITA as Fracture would say.

See my dilemma? lol

Taxing, ahhh one of those things again.

many a time the rules of taxing and how a pirate Rp should be played has been brought up. Heck i remember when taxing was banned and forgotten on this server.

I even remember when i made a post to get the power of teh taxing rights back. Sure the rights are back to tax at 200k. but it feels like the people i tax dont care. I tax traders, I WILL NOT PAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! etc etc. I kill and then get abuse. Woohoo i feel so manly.

So then i try taxing fighters, hey maybe they can fight back and give me a fight for there money, more of a challenge! But no... Same thing, i beat them then they refuse to pay. Lots of fun when it goes down that route. They can out and get killed.  Over and over just because of 200k. To the point i get annoyed and log of myself.

it seems to me like there is not enough RESPECT payed to pirates. With money and with attitude. 200k is a TINY amount, yet people are so reluctant to pay it for safe passage or acknowledgement that they have won the money fair and square.

Maybe tighter rules need to be brought down on taxing, Revised and looked upon by the admins. I know what i would like to see changed, hopefully some other pirates do to.

:-? Agreed to a point.  Personaly I feel that the tax limit could be raised and that maybe to offset this there should be a level limit that you cant tax under, so lets say a maximum tax of 1 million but not on players under level 30?  I know thats not a perfect system and that you will always get those that will try to duck out of it - which is part of the trader rep anyway - who in their right minds would give up hard earned cash to a freeloading pirate?  The problem of course is that even after being defeated by the pirate there is no rule that says the loser has to pay up.

There could also be room for flexibility where taxing is concerned if more traders and fighters were willing to show the respect to a better adversary and pay up.  What Im getting at here is the fact that if players paid on a regular basis then the pirates would be able to negotiate their price better - so instead of just flying round and demanding 1 million from every player they can tax - they could then come in at a lower level.

Another way of looking at it could be this:  Pirate asks for 25K tax - player refuses and decides to fight - player looses - as the defeated player they then have to pay DOUBLE the amount for their defiance of the original tax request.  That might encourage more people to pay up when asked.  The element of Highway Robbery has been diluted here and lets be honest about this, those that were pirates were also partly to blame as there was a certain amount of Over Taxing going on that brought the situation to one where the traders couldnt move and the server was dominated by powerful Pirate Clans taxing the life out of everything.

Getting a fine balance on this is not easy as it requires players to adhere to an unwritten code of practice when dealing with pirates and sadly most will not do this. It was part of the reason for the F1 fines being introduced as too many were simply dropping off the server when confronted with any oposition.

I am all for increasing the tax limit and for bringing in some kind of rule that says the loser pays the amount - that way you still have a chance to leg it and get away or face the consequences of your decision.... Just my thoughts on this.  :D

On Discovery Pirating is used effectively, and u are generally asked to pay between 1 & 2 mill, so if u are carrying a cargo worth 9 mill, its better to pay as they will only kill you if you refuse or make a run for it.

The trouble with the Void is nobody pays, so pirating is dead and there is the other hazard of Rogues who will kill you for the fun of it.

So generally people use a trading character to generate quick cash to buy missiles etc for other chars, I don't think anybody makes a career out of it.

I tend to do missions to make cash, but the npc's in the new mod have become better shots and they regen.
The best place to do missions was Nomad1, as you could make money quickly by selling recovered shields and weapons. This is no longer the case as shields are no longer picked up and the nomad weapons are not worth as much, so it is hard work for little financial reward. The easiest missions are in Babylon killing Fugitives, some pay as much as 980k and those warens are made out of balsa wood.

Seem to have gone off topic slightly, basically the Void is not an RP server.

I do believe someone once said roleplay is up to the players. Tis a sad thing that Pirates leave, it's no good for the server. PKing just for the sake of PKing? That's just griefing and I had that plenty in the old days of FL, not my thing anymore..
