sythe yes the eclipes kill everything on site just like the saints and shadowes use to i think i made that clear that their rp was known and everyone watched them. i have no problem with a clan rp like that so dont get to bent out of shape. however there is a little thing called respect of fellow players and this comes before role play on the void, respect for each other comes before every thing else. when a player says i am afk you dont shot them that is just wrong i dont care about your role play. remember this is a game not real life those who want to act like it is real life all the time need to get a life. it is a game and suppost to be fun for everyone, i have lost titanuim armor because someone thought it would be funny to kill a new ship, even tho there was a void grouped with me telling everyone we were setting up new char, so leave them alone till they are set up. that is crossing the line its not roleplay its not funny just some idiot being a jerk because he can. that is what i mean when i say taking advantage of those who can not or are not able to defend them self. also if a clan is going to rp a certain way say, i am going to put a nomad tag on my ship i should not see your tag char launching from the monkey base. you wont see my navy ship on a nomad base. i only kill criminals. same with nomad slayers i would not expect to see them launching off a nomad base. if you are going to be a big time role play clan, no matter what your clan then play it right and get the rep to match your play.
as far as taged trade ship remember some clan take great pride in the fact they are in the top 10 rank clans on the global server. to put a bunch of non-fighting ships in your clan only bring down your clan average. that is why you see the kba with the tag on the end of our names when it comes to our traders and pvp char.
cika_velja dude go drink some green tea and relax man, what you getting so worked up about, there are some good ideals being kicked around here in this thread. things that might make to void just a little bit better. if you cant post contructive or give ideals or contructive critizism then dont post. we dont need or want flaming on the forums as it solves nothing and creates bad blood.
oh and i agree with the guy who said that one of the thing that has turned players off to pirates is the one's who will not tax just kill. use to be if pirates did this the xef would come over and kick their a$$ and teach them the proper way to tax and play a pirate.
i think this is a good thread with some good ideals like i said.

I think the a$$-kicking punishment needs to come back, except for both sides this time. If you continuously (sp) dont pay, especially on a trader, Temp ban. If you RP a Rogue with [X] tags, temp ban.

i hope you DO continue with your X char cos I'm a trader (mostly) and haven't got taxed once but blown to pieces by dozens of R 's. I make 3-4 million in 3 minutes of flying, heck RAISE THE TAX.
Did I mention 3 minutes flying? Thats there and back again. How about longer trade routes? My other Char's an explorer, but why should i go on exploring if its so darn easy to make cash anyway?
there's three or four systems where 80% of the players are always in, fat chance of ever meeting somebody in edinghburg, colorado etc. There is prettty much no motivation there to explore all the systems and spread out. sc**w alexandria and sparta
how about compulsory tags? That'd be fun ^^ At least once a week maybe?

The amount of constructive comments and ideas in this thread has been so great, I really don't know where to start.
I do think however that most of us agree on a couple of things:
- RP should be played better then it is now ([X] tagged players especially);
- [R] or rogues are not the best form of RP, just a remainder of the time that pirating became nearly impossible to play;
- Taxes should be raised;
And I am sure I have forgotten a couple.
The input shown here is just great. It shows that there are lots of players here who don't only know where the issues are, but can also bring suggestions to solve or improve them.
I say keep em coming. RP is a very important part of playing in Void, and therefor so is this thread. Keep posting all your great ideas and constructive criticisms. And let's all work with it.
Thank you all and please don't stop now!

I've got to agree with you again Mav, it makes a nice change to see so many of us coming together to try and improve rp here.
These are some thoughts from an old pirate pro.
1. Cargo bays should hold more. Or another to put is to make more profit for traders but longer trade routes. This way the trader would be more encouraged to keep his cargo safe. ie - hire an escort, pay the pirate chasing him, etc. Also, surley if clans have traders they would also like to keep trade routes porate or threat free to enable them to make maximum profit for their war kitty.
2. Make Sparta a no-pvp zone (lol - only joking). But something should be done with this problem. EFZ should be used for the chat and daters.
3. Have compulsory rp days or even just a period of time (ie 4 hours) where you must rp.
I have more but my mind has gone blank lol. Again I dont always agree with eagleone but his opinion on clans and togetherness is a very valid point, whick leads nicely to Zebs point about groups of pirates fighters with one larger pirate freighter hunting traders. Imagine the rp this would bring. It would be as close to being in a sci fi movie as any of us would ever get, and we are all here because we love sci fi and the sci fi movies. Alex being opened up again is a great idea and so is splitting up the gates. This gives pirates more room for hunting. I am sure this was the ideas of the admins when they changed this, but they cant stop there, they must continue to think of new ways to improve rp.
Before I forget, all these players who scream "i will never pay tax..blah,blah,blah" , need to get a grip of themselves, its only a game we play for fun to escape the pressures of work, rl etc.
Rant over for now.
(still trying to dedcide if raising the tax level would help the rp, or just make traders even more less likely to pay up.)

Many say that raising the maximum tax would help, yet that can leed to overtaxation of rank.
If you want better taxes, there should be a maximum tax bracket according to rank. For example, a rank 32 person becomes taxed for 500k, and say that they only have 300k and a full cargo bay, due to insufficient funds said person is unable to pay the tax. Then if that person is distroyed, they are left with 300k and an empty cargo bay, which starts discouragement as they begin to lose ability to regain wealth.
If someone can establish a reasonable tax table according to rank, that would be a more reasonable way to get the admins to look at it and decide to implement it or not. A reasonable tax is around 20-30% of the net profit of the run. It should also be considered on how many times you can tax one ship in a 24 hour period. It is discouraging to players when they are repeatedly taxed by the same pirate 3+ times a day. I for one am more incourage to pay a "higher" tax if that pirate will leave me alone for the next 24 hours.
List
1- Find the wealth value of the ranking system, ship and equipment are are factor in rank.
2- Find the profit margin for heavy traffic runs equal to what can be made in a 6 hour period
3- Figure out a reasonable number of times to tax a player per day and divide from profit from #2
4- Divide #3 by 35-40%
That could make a reasonable table, and the % could go to a maximum of 50% in my opionion.
So, don't just say you want taxes raised, form a working model that the admins can decide upon.
Also forgot about Rank wealth, probally about 10-15% of welath by rank could to added to the final conclusion.
Edit
My math is horribly off on this actually so I will run the numbers again and get back

A very good point made there. Thanks for enlightening. Could you please clarify that with some examples? Thanks.

My math was a bit excessive in the last post. So here is a more reasonable design.
Player rank tax 1x/ day
Rank 30 1mil wealth, 15% tax 150,000
Rank 40 10mil wealth, 15% tax 1,500,000
Rank 50 25mil wealth, 15% tax 3,750,000
Trade run tax
2mil round trip profit, 15% tax 300,000
60mil made in 6 hours, 15% tax 1x/ day 9,000,000
These figures would be maximums, and the 9mil tax on the 60mil per 6 hours would be hard for lower rank players to pay.
In my opionion, it would be easier to break the ranks into sections of 10's, 30-40, 41-50 etc. The simpler means is to create a "Tax Table" according to rank, and having a maximum tax of 15% of the median rank. 30-40's median would be 35. And this would be a once per 24 hours deal.
30-40, median 35 wealth 5mil
max tax- 750,000
41-50, median 45 wealth 18mil
max tax- 2,700,000
etc.
Creating this "Tax Table" will take work. For someone would have to find the charecter wealth for all ranks, or the ranks divisable by 5 as per my last example. 15% is a reasonable tax in my opinion, and depending on the charecter wealth can be profitable. This is a simpler method than my earlier post, and the math is more reasonable. There's my 5cents on the matter, the rest is up to those who want to see tax raised/ modified.

I think the tax-rank idea would work.
It has to be something that is easy to work out because people can be quite lazy.
How about this for an idea. - I used to play elite frontiers years ago and one of the main aspects of your rp was to dock at a station and check out the Bulletin Board for jobs or news. I wonder if it would work here. I know we have the forum to post in but this would be totally different. It wouldnt be a discussion board, just a roleplay board.
You could post things like escorts needed for trade runs or assasins needed for a hit. Or just posting your own advert for your merc services and prices. Or selling weps and your price list. To be able to access this Bulletin Board you would to buy and hold some kind of license similar to the one you purchase on Planet Man, or maybe it could be locked to only only rp players. The actual board wouldnt be in the forum, but it could be located on the homepage somewhere. It wouldnt be for discussions, or showing off sigs, or flames just adverts/requests and replies involving roleplay. This would also free up the forum, that seems to be overflowing with posts and threads lol.
This would only work if the players made it work, but while writing this, I get the feeling that it would never get off the ground here.
This is only an idea I had whilst watching the T.V, and I thought I would write it down before I forgot lol. (too much rum and sea air for this old pirate).
Anyway, as always let me know your ideas and what you think about this. Could it work? If not, then why not?
Is there a way to make it better or is it just not possible?
I think thats a glorious idea. RP-Only Forum.
In order for a "RP" forum to work, there would need to be an understanding of charecter seperation.
As in that Jack-[X] and Tom-[H] may be played by the same person, but are two completely differant people in the aspect of RP and in game. The problem is with the fact that metagaming happens, there are some who don't know or simple don't understand how to seperate charecters when they know that the same person plays them. And then there are people who have no interest in RP.
Basicly it comes down to the fact that the players must participate for RP to work. And as many have said befor, just sitting around and complaining about the lack of RP does nothing. RP is something you do, there is no median for it. Either you do, or you don't.
Or there is another saying, "Flaunt it if you got it." :D

i understand the furustration with players not playing their role hockeymaster but banning is never a good choice. it is always a last resort even for the admin, i have watched frac corner a guy spend 10 min talking to him and then let him continue playing without a bann. even tho he could have banned him with good reason. why because frac understand this is a game and we are here to have fun, nothing fun about setting at home 7 days waiting to get back on. plus player who are banned come back with a bad attitude most times. again this is not construtive for the server. it realy does come down to the players desire to rp.
blackheart..

the more you talk the more i am sure i know you. lol. i think your ideal for a role play forum board is a very good one, i am not sure how easy it would be to work out all the little kinks but i think that would be a good starting place to maybe put rp back on the tracks.
the tax thing is a hole different slippery slop, use to be pirates never tax below lev 40, that has always been a hard set rule, not a server rule, but a player rule as below lev 40 players do not have the cash to pay and play at the same time. i can say this i have only been taxed 1 time in over a year on my trader char and i have made well over a billion credits so i have made more than a couple of trips. the one time i was asked i was only 2k away from the dock and made it. then switch to my fighter and took out both pirates.

i know i cant believe i won 2 on one also lol lol, however if that pirate would have caught me out in the middle of my run i would have had to pay or lose everything. as far as the being taxed 3 times in a day by the same pirate that should not be happening. it is a given that once you have been taxed buy a pirate excpecially a clan pirate you are not going to be taxed by that entire clan rest of that day. most times that clan will make sure you are not bothered for the rest of the day.
oh i have writen down how much money it takes to make every rank on the void well at least from 70 up to 90. but to get the lower ones is real easy to do. you can be lev 38 and have no money at all just a good ship. so we realy only need from lev 40 to lev 70 which is only about 60 million credits.

Just leaving for work so I only have time for a quick few notes.
I disagree with a point about only taxing an individual trader once per day. The trader can make plenty of cash each run to cover a basic 200k payment to a pirate. \if the trader is daft enough to keep with the same route then he should pay the price of his greed or laziness to find alternative routes as backup plans. Or he could ask for Navy/Police assistance so he can keep useing his route. Taxing him once per day wouldnt boost rp it would hinder it.
Also,Eagleone, I think you have shown us the perfect example of poor rp, when you were challenged by a pirate u ran which is fair enough, but then u doked a changed into a fighter. u should have tried to outthink trhe pirate or pay him or ask for help. That would have been the proper rp thing to do.
GTG.

Ya I have to agree on that one, the top 3 things that tick off Pirates are F1'ers, 'I won't pay tax even tho u caught me fair', and ppl who immediately switch to a fighter to get 'revenge'. Come on. How would you like it if, after you sucessfully escaped a Pirate, he just switched to another ship ahead of you. Trust me ppl would scream bloody murder on here wouldn't they??
Do this ye scurvey dogs, note where Pirates are operating and next time you get on bring your fighter if the Pirate is there. Switching so obviously right away is just lame ye lubbers.
YArrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.
