Yeah you have a point there Ent. And it made me realize that I have mounted a power enhancer instead of a regen O.o.  #-o
Although I have to say that if you start boxing at a distance from your opponent which is equal or just a bit smaller than the max distance of your guns, you will take down any shield pretty fast. Since most players don't know how to box really well, the fact that you do prevents you from letting the opponent's shield breaker hit. It works for me, but remind me to mount a regen enhancer lol.

And yeah not many people know about the fast-torp trick.

Good points here guys, and about Conqueror, I've to agree with Ent on this one. Conq is an amazing ship if you know how to fly this old piece of iron. It has great power for your guns and shields and also it's very strong ship in the combat. Sometimes I really can't believe how much of damage this ''tank'' could handle. I think the only reason why people mostly choose Anubis instead of Conq is the missing hardpoint for another CD or torp. But don't forget about that Conq is faster than Anub in turning and in combination with one missile (instead of torp) you can get great and powerfull setup.
1. Sniper are the most powerful weapons of the void with the slowest refire rate. Who use sniper weapons can concentrate a lot on movements because they need only 1 second to hit the target and do a lot of damage. Fast ships are the best for sniper weapons, they are harder to hit and when you will master advanced movements and you'll be able to outturn your enemy they will be lethal. The downside of using sniper weapons is that you don't have to miss shots. But even if you don't have a perfect aim, mastering movements will lead you to perfect positions that will let you take aim easly.

2. Brawling weapons are a lot harder to master. You need more time than sniper weapons to do high damage and since when you take aim your movements are limited you will be an easy target for your enemy. So movements with brawling weapons are vital. You need to understand well your enemy ship, weapons and fighting style and most important watch closely to enemy ship directions. So in my opinion who master movements with brawling weapons can be easly called one of the best pvpers. For brawling weapons slower ships with a lot of armor and weapons hardpoints are the best since you will get hit a lot and wore weapons will let you do more damage in less time.

3. Missiles in my personal experience are an handicap. There's no doubt that they are powerful and can take an enemy down with one hit if you mount enough of them. Also they will let you hit the target without focusing on taking aim giving you the chance to move freely and avoid most of the shots the enemy throws at you. But if the enemy has good timing with cd these missiles can kill yourself too and you will lose the fight. Why giving the enemy the opportunity to kill you with only a cd? Maybe you're killing him and you just blow yourself up losing the pvp. Another disadvantage is that you will never improve your aim using missiles because you'll obviously rely on them on not on your guns and for that you will not master movements either since there's only one way to throw missiles...in front of your enemy. So your fighting style will become repetitive with always the same fighting pattern and the enemy will be able, after a little bit of time, to read your movements and counteract them.

These are the fighting styles on void. I suggest to new players to start practicing with sniper weapons since they will let you focus on movements. Even if you don't hit your enemy the first times don't worry since as i always say the first thing to do in a pvp is "not getting hit". If the enemy can't hit you he can't kill you. Practicing movements will give you a lot of opportunities to shot at your enemy and if you're good enough you will be able to hit the enemy while his red crosshair isn't even moving...easy shot.
Then when you become good enough with sniper weapons i suggest to change to brawler weapons...doing that will make you fight in a different way and can be hard but with the knowledge of sniper weapons it will be easier than starting learning pvp with brawling weapons. Also knowing both brawler and sniper fighting style will give you an arsenal of movements to use in pvps and you will be able to adapt your fighting style to every enemy you'll fight. That will meke you an awesome pvper.
Also practicing fights against 2 or 3 enemies at the same time will give you the opportunity to learn other movements that will let you last longer when ganged, like the costant use of strafes buttons, thruster and reverse thruster and engine kill.

The most important thing to do in the end is to configure your keyboard and mouse in the right way...using less buttons and placing them in the right position will make your fights a lot more easier.

@SHONENSAN-Totally Agree, but as an complementary idea, i want 2 say, in my opynion, a real fight, is a Guns-only fight. Dont missunderstand me, i really dont care if my opponent is a sniper or brawler, if he fly an Anubis or Wa1, Eagle, Discoverer, or wht ever, but in my mind, a guns -only, is almoust like a good job(Like a good sex party-that i prefer in real mode):)
In my minde, brawlers with strong ships, or rktiers, R like pwning a n old women with brute force
Im not playing the smart, but those who knows me, noticed i prefere 2 use brawler seting on light fighters not on Dynosaurus ones.
Reverse is, i respect any player preferences, settings etc... cause my job is 2 'kill them''(with Shonen its a little hard)
So, everybody use Yr prefered setup, I w8 ya in space!!!
Salute ya --Lizard :)

Also Shonen, i disagree that using a missile makes your movements and aim poor, you still need aim to drop the shield and on void missiles aren't enough for one shot kill (unless your using 4-5 missiles in which case wtf...) so you do need some aim.
Also your movements can become incredibly good as instead of finding the perfect place to shoot, your doing excactly the same with a missile.

Also, isn't there also Boxers here? People who specialise in reverse thrust and strafe to win fights?
Not too sure, but i've seen 1-2.
I don't deny that but you'll never reach the pvp lvl of the best players, maybe you can kill a pvp veteran with missiles but with same weapons you will have no chance. And you'll never understand why if you keep relying on missiles. Obiously i can only talk from my personal experience and from what i saw playing here.

Two cannonballs can destroy your ship because you don't have to see only the numbers that you find on weapons details...missile and torp damage increase with ship speed, enemy ship speed...i expalain it with an example...if you shoot a sunslayer to a standing targed you will not do a lot of damage but if you shoot it while you and your enemy are thrusting at full speed to each others the ship goes boom.

Boxing is a movement, like sliding...boxing includes the use of up and down strafes and becker is right...boxers are kinda vulnerable to missiles and torps since boxing will force you to move only in a limited space, not enough to avoid missiles or torps.
I guess i can do nothing but agree.

Lots of good talk here about offense, but IMHO... which I have heard validated by some very veteran players... the key to any and all styles is not what guns/missiles you use but how you defend yourself. DEFENSE is the key to winning. You can't win if you die. You have to survive. Outlast your opponent and you win no matter what your loadout.

I can dodge, stick and move very well in my WA1. I love that ship. But as I've heard it called... it's a paper airplane. Against an opponent with laser-beam  aim I don't last long.

But no matter how hard it is to master I have to agree the Conq is the top dog. That is one hard to kill ship. Not to mention the great analogy to a "sliding tank with unlimited ammo."  It's powerful but not as agile as I like. I am still trying to get the hang of it in my non-clan chars but it has occurred to me reading all this that I'll never get it if I don't use it as much as possible. Since I fly Manticore the most I need to switch him to that ship. I love my WA1 but I'm not going to get to be a better PvPer if I don't step up to the challenge of the more difficult, but in the end better ships.

So I'll be the easier target for a while but I'll be much better in time. Good cost-benefit ratio.

For you sparta sleeper killer thats easy you want something thats an ista pop - your looking for a twin torping anubis with 7 Nivana 10's and a punisher turret.
ive used this set up its a 2 second kill. Be warned though - the sheer power consumption of Nivanas means you wont be able to stay in long protracted fights

Boxers                 - counter   - Torps
Sliding brawlers   - counter  - cds
Snipers                - counter   - NIVANAS and good use of brakes
Missle spammers - counter  - Dive underneath on the pass fast turn

And one last thing no ones mentioned - and the most important.

KNOW YOUR ENEMY.

If any one here mentioned anyones name who hangs around sparta I could tell you
1. how he fights
2. how to counter it
and 3. how to kill him.

There is no other substitute for knowing your enemy. So you see pvp is more than meets the eye
;)

One thing i dont agree with in the posts are the ones that say against snipers - keep your distance. Please can someone show me the brawling gun that outreaches the nomad laser o.O. Because ive never found it. The only option is to get up right in there face with some hard hitting Nivanas @ 800 m range.

Just a little addition...
don't underestimate good mixed layouts.

Example: screamers and annis (good old times!) played sniper style

One problem "convetional" snipers face: no matter how strong your guns, you need to hit (at least) twice within the time the shield needs to get online again (can be very short for good shields+regen enhancer). One to get the shield down- one more, before the shield is up again, to damage the hull.

WIth the mixed setup, you can take a shot sniper style- the screamers bring down the shields- while the annis with luck can score some hull hits with their faster follow up shots. True- it's not an as big bang as a full hit with 6 nomad lasers on the hull. But you can manage to take a bit hull away every time you score a "sniper hit" with this setup (means the screamer hits). And a small amount of hull damage is better than no hull damage, because you only manage to take down the shields.

Cheers

:D Advice from a novice PvPer..... get a good mouse.  A game pad and all the add ons are one thing - but if your mouse sucks - your dead...!

All very good advice here.  To become a great player one thing is very apparent - you need to be able to switch styles very fast - knowing your enemy's fighting style and recognising it is the main key to this.  To be able to switch from brawling to sniping style regardless as to your load out will out fox a less experienced player and on occasions even fool an expert...!

Looking forward for some post from the experienced PVPers about the correct use of mines!  Yeah, those underrated "weapons"!

I'm sure most of the ppl haves nomad mine dropper turned ON all the time , because it costs u zero and always gives u chance of hiting the enemy when he passes by; being the major problem here the fact that the mine can also hit you.

There's two types of mines, the homing mines that "tracks" the enemy ship (nomad dropper for example) and the pure "fixed" mine like the screamer. This last type of mine comes in handy when using an agile ship  so you can, after studying what common moves your enemy uses, to drop a mine exactly where he usually passes or just by forcing him to slighlty bypass the intended route (this can make his turning rate decrease) and that sure brings something in your favor.

I'm not very experienced with mines so that's why I've asked for someone who is to post something about them.
I'm sure we'll all would like to read more about it.  :P
