Freelancer - The Void

Ah finally!  :D indeed, TopGun shouldn't be missing in a list like this.
I personally like about every movie mentioned. Frankly my list would be far too long and I wouldn't be able to think of each and every one anyway. But there is one movie I think is worth mentioning: Stealth.

Starring Josh Lucas, Jamie Foxx, and the more than lovely überwoman Jessica 'hotlips' Biel, the movie tells the story about a highly sophisticated new type of fighter jet, which can operate completely by itself. The jet is called the E.D.I., or 'Extreme Deep Invader', appropriately nicknamed 'TinMan' by its wingmen mentioned above, who each fly a version of the TALON, also a highly sophisticated fighter and the last in the line of manned fighter jets.

The movie was a major failure in about every theater, but I bought it anyway and I was positively surprised. The effects are pretty good, the action is like you are right there. The mock-ups of the other three jets, the TALONS, (sounds familiar?) used for the movie, looked so real, that pictures of them taken on an aircraft carrier were leaked out to the press, which ignited the rumor of a top secret new kind of fighter jet, developed by the USA government and were now in the last stages of testing.

If you like movies with jets in it, Stealth is a must. Although I wouldn't call it a TopGun 2 because of the horrible storyline and performance of the actors, the action is really cool and pretty realistic.

Top Gun? behave..that's one of the worst films ever made. It literally only stands up because of the sex scene between Cruise and McGillis which is steamy while still being tasteful, something a lot of films make a mess of.

Other than that there's just nothing in it, suspension of disbelief only goes so far yet in this film they expect you to believe that first an F-14 Tomcat could hold it's own in a dogfight..it's not designed to do this it's a long range interceptor who's job is to shoot down incoming enemy aircraft from over 11 miles away before they get within 100 miles of their home carrier, it's not a fighter and in close combat would get hammered by a proper fighter which is why carriers also carry FA-18 Hornets and SuperHornets. This is immediately evident if you watch you can see the "MiG's" and the training aircraft outturning the F-14's easily

Second they expect you to believe that somne small Canadian/Israeli jets (F5's) are Russian MiG's and that American pilots and Russian pilots apparently have regular little dust ups when in fact no NATO nation has ever engaged any Russian made aircraft in combat since Vietnam and then it wasn't Russian pilots or modern MiG's. plus there's no such thing as a MiG 28.

Then you have the absolutely mental director who instead of waiting until dawn the next day had the US Navy do a 180 degree turn everyday to make the dusk/dawn sunlight shine on the right side of the ship costing the US taxpayer over a million dollars a day. Plus he had tried to bribe the ship's captian with a $25000 cheque

Then shortly after Cruise makes Days of Thunder...exactly the same story just with racing cars instead of jets.

Bah..sure it's a great film for the ladies because they ignore details and focus on emotions, if you're a bloke and you like Top Gun, go see a psychologist.

Yeah I totally agree with all you wrote, it's full of flaws when you look at it closely. But I stand by the fact that the movie is not so much about the details as it is about the action, which is depicted great for its time. And it's a sort of 'one of a kind', if you know what I mean. Same with Stealth.
Got any suggestions for really GOOD movies with jets in it? And please don't mention Behind Enemy Lines lol.

My psychologist seems strangely busy after my post though...  :-??
