[quote="Retribution";p="195693"]And yes, it is down to admins in game to come and look when players ask........Now wheres an in game admin...... as there dont seem to be any, why not give the FAQ dudes the abilty to kick people, maybe not ban but atleast kick people, because from where im sitting thats the only VOID presence I ever see. And these people seem to have thier heads screwed on.[/quote]
On a side note: I think this is a good idea. I think giving ban abilities would be too much for sure, but being able to kick would be a good thing I suppose.
In our FAQ chars we receive quite a lot of information about players breaking the rules in one way or another. This is the reason I don't always stay in NY (Not always though, I usually step out to just enjoy the chat in Alex). 9 out of 10 times there isn't a Void or Admin around to inform. They might be in their secret chars, but we don't know them. And often these are occasions which have to be dealt with on the spot, at that time. So sending a pm to a Void or Admin is not always of any use. Of course we ask the people reporting to us to make Ss's of what's going on, but most of them don't always bother or forget about the issue and move on. And so a lot of violations slip through the net, adding to a negative atmosphere.
I realize it might be another option to let the FAQ members know the names of the Void's secret chars so we could inform them when we need to, but I'm sure most of them would not feel comfortable with exposing their chars one way or another. I wouldn't be either.

I know that most of the staff might not be in favor of this idea, but I wanted to use the occasion to point out that I feel that the FAQ can be of excellent use in this. Every one of them. Maybe this needs to be seriously considered. Maybe the staff doesn't even receive that many pm's with reports from us, but like it or not, - and I will only speak for myself in this, but I know for a fact that the others have it too - a considerable part of the FAQ work already is receiving complaints and reports, trying to sort out differences between players and mediating in quarrels. It has been like that from the start and it happens on a daily basis.

Sorry for the off-topic but Retribution brought up a good point. And I really hope Strail will pick this up and consider the possibilities. The way I see it, this could only help the server.

Shonen has a point. On cop school it gets hammered into you: 'More cops on the street, less crime.' Surely the players with a Void char don't want to spend every waking hour in their Void suits. They want to play the game just like we do. All the more reason to give the FAQ a supporting role in rule-enforcement. You would get more 'cops on the street'.

Maybe the single fact of players knowing that FAQ also has the ability to react to violations, will have a preventing effect.

By doing that u place in an edge to the FAQ team that rather than joining for the decent reason of helping u join for the goodies as has happened to the [Event] team as Zebulon said he didnt want the FAQ ending up as when the FAQ coem back was announced and i think it would ruin it to.

I see your point Ghosty bro but the FAQ takes on new members on an invitation-only basis. With that, we keep very high standards and every invitation is elaborately discussed before it passes. And don't worry, none of us has any problems with kicking people out of the team as fast as they came when we notice something off. Luckily we haven't had to do that often yet, thanks to our policy.

But I'm starting to take this a bit too far off track, maybe we need a new thread for this.

Nice to see your attitude hasn't changed Shonen. Maybe you might find relations with people better if you respect the fact that everyone is entitled to an opinion, and don't follow up everything you say with an insult. If you read what I put I never said that there shouldn't be a Guard presance on the server, I was just pointing out that just because you don't see us does't mean we aren't there. If you suspect someone is cheating but everytime you log on they log off or change the behavior then how are we supposed to get evidence so we can ban them?

Most PM's I get go along the lines "so and so are cheating please ban them", no screenshots, no video, no times and locations. If we were to just act can you imagine the abuse we would get? Try helping the server staff instead of criticising and abusing them for a change.

As I already explained, I personnaly find that I spot more rule and violations potential cheaters in an unknown character, than in any of my other characters, enableing me to collect evidence and then act upon it.

And another way of reporting a possible cheater, send a message to the console at the time, preferably from the same location, if the consol ien't being observed by an Admin at the time, the message will be logged, enabling the admins to examine the server record, and giving them more chance of positively detecting the cheating.

I wasnt suggesting something off mav, i was suggesting that fact that it could encourage people to join for the wrong reasons. Staff here probley receave about 5 applications a week for there server staff positions and this could be seen as a short cut to the powers the [Void] & [Admin] tags have. all im saying is that once the 'goodies' of commands and admin equipment come into the scene it attracts applications and players with an interest for all the wrong reasons.

I have no doubt u and the FAQ team are trustworthy i just question wether the FAQ team should really become a new police force as it where. I think u would attract applications and members for the police side of the duties or the commands that make u similar to the voids and that would remove the primary objective that the FAQ team has and was setup on the basis of.

another good question then pops up what then makes the [FAQ] & [Void] tags diffrent? except the fact that players choose whos joining 1 and admin staff choose the members of the other.

I have read the thread with interest.

having more "tagged" admin/server staff around IS NOT the answer. There are many times when a player who is pvp might have a bad connection or is running a prog in the background which in turn makes him look like he's cheating when he pvp's. Jumping at banning or kicking him from the game isnt the answer. There would be a lot of players who would be accused of cheating and are not, let me explain further.

One player has ping of 50, other player has a ping of 175. As soon as the higher ping player starts to jump about you "clamour" CHEAT!! It's not his fault that he may be "jumping" about when you pvp him.

So.. thats a one off..perhaps.

What about the players who are always jumping? always moving in a jittery way?
The answer is simple - you dont pvp them and you make sure that they are ignored, not just by you but by others. Peer presure is what is needed, if you continue to pvp with these people they continue to cheat - SIMPLE. Only by excluding them from PVP will they learn that cheating isnt acceptable.

Onto another point. Whilst I dont want to condone mud slinging on the forums, I will put a board up where players can state who they dont want to pvp against. No more and no less. If your on the board your on it for a reason. Other players can reply to the thread and either agree or disagree. No discussion, no explanation. When players see a player name with a high number of agreements, then we can all conclude one thing. When I believe that the number of players who do not want to pvp this individual is too high, the player will be banned from the server.

He will be banned because there are too many players who do not want to pvp him and if theres a lot of players who do not want to pvp him, then its not conducive to the server or the community that he stays. Therefore the player is banned by the community, not by the accusation of cheating.

Likewise, those who make a meal out of listing players all the time will in turn be put on the list.

After a period of time the player will be removed from the list if he does not meet the threshold, so the "slate is wiped clean"

As a final point, the real fact of stamping this out is not anti-cheat, it already slows the server down too much doing tons of checks. The answer is you, all of you making a stand and not accepting or tolerating it by action, not just reteoric.

You might not believe it, but I always wondered what the console chat option was for. I always thought it was some kind of admin function, not available to regular players...

This is new to me. But good to know. This could proof helpful and I;m sure I will be using the console chat command more often.

Thanks.

EDIT: Strail submitted before me.

I think this might be a good idea, especially because the player won't get banned for alleged cheating, but because he is considered not to add to the gaming community in a positive way. Talking about peer pressure. I just hope it won't get abused. I think it might be wise if we all started with a clean slate and start judging players from now on individually, instead of listing them based on past experiences, or that board will bow up. At least that's what I will be doing.

Good idea but will have to monitored closely for people abusing it.

Hate to find a negative but a clan could have many unmarked chars and blacklist somebody who they just dont like.
I know it sounds a bit far fetched, but I believe there could be players capable of this.  But overall I think it could work.

Will be very interesting to see and Mav is correct. People should be judged from now on.

The past is the past ,ets move on.

Excellent Idea....I wish Id thought that one up!  The Anti Witch Hunt clause I like the best.....spam the list and you will find yourself on it...!  Extreme sollutions are never welcome as it interferes with the flow of the game.  Those who cheat know they are doing it. Stop. I wont go into details - its all been covered before.  On a lighter note  - this might make you smile:

Count me in. Cheating is killing the game. The point of the game...any game... is the challenge. What challenge is it if you are cheating? And if you are playing against someone who is cheating, it's not a challenge it's a frustration.

But I have to ask, same as others have:

What exactly is the strike? I know what I think of when I think strike: no one works. In this case... no one plays? Does this strike mean that all the sign-ees are not going to sign in and play? I doubt it. It seems to me this is more like a referendum. Sign up to say you are against cheating. So OK. I sign.

But now what?

I have said this before and now say it again: The way to stop cheaters is to refuse to play against them. What good is it to cheat if there is no one to cheat against? I mean, the point of cheating (I guess... having never tried it I can't say for sure) is to gain an advantage against other players in order to win...Usually because that person is a loser. But if no one is going to play the cheater he has three choices. Continue to cheat and play with himself...so to speak..., or go someplace else and cheat, or stop cheating. Of course, if he did stop then he'd have to openly admit he was cheating and that he'd stopped in order for other players to want to play with him again. Fat chance.

I can't agree with the point that was made about having to prove you are not cheating. You cannot prove a negative. How can you prove you are not cheating? It would be like trying to prove you didn't read this thread. You can prove you did but you can't prove you did not.

Admin can't police cheating. It's impossible. I can say from experience that you just can't do it. If I were to have tried to chase down every cry about cheating and other misbehavior I got greened about when I was [VOID], it would have had to have been at the expense of ever having a chance to enjoy the game I loved so much to have accepted the position in the first place, and I would have eventually hung up my [VOID] hat and said forget it.. that's not what I signed up for, I'm not making a difference and I'm just making myself and others unhappy.

:-?

Well anyway. Sign me up for the list of people who want to do something about cheating.

Now let's do something about cheating.

The Boss here has the perfect solution. It's taking the "don't play with cheaters" idea and puts it out there for everyone to see and know about. Hang it right on the front page. Put their names in lights. Let everyone who thinks the person is cheating to attest to it and say why. Not just say who, but why.  Not just because you don't like the person or that you can't ever beat the person... but what characteristic of that person's playing makes you believe that person is cheating.  Greaver's right. Most of us have been at it long enough to know what it's like and what an altered ship looks like. If Strail says he'll pay attention to it and if the suspect is getting in deep enough and has nothing to say about it that isn't better than "I don't cheat" then he's going to ban him... I believe him. It's a positive step and something we can all get behind. You want to strike?. I say strike back at the cheaters and this is the way to do it.

As people seem to want to "sign up" for  anti cheat striking, then we will now see the use of the decline pvp board.
