You would be surprised to know how many here are that way, but are not in the position to do anything about it.
However, these people continue to try and bring new ideas to the server, and do whatever they can because they want to make the best out of it, as good as their abilities will let them.

True. But words wont do anything. Except if some words got changed in the rules. Then it would do something



I know that Mav, you, Greaver, and some others have tried it. Problem is some players here are to lazy to help. Just keep doing there thing. And if some of the ''older'' players wont help we cant do anything.
And im starting to wonder if any of the server staff is going to reply here. To see whats possible and what not, what needs to be done and what we can help about what gotta be done. More server guards for one thing. 2 that come online once in a while wont work. Strail??  You havn't really replied to anything lately.

This has gotten somewhat off track.  First off - enough of the "Where is Strail?" stuff and the whole "We demand to know!" stuff.
Drop it.  You will all find out in good time that changes will be made here for the benefit of the VOID server.

I appreciate what input the Rev has placed into this little discussion. The points that you have made have been noted.  Like I have said - and I see that you agree with it - comparing VOID to Discovey is like comparing Chalk to Cheese.  They are two VERY DIFFERENT servers.  

I have said it in the past and I will repeat myself - if you dont like playing here - go play somewhere else - that applies to EVERYONE who wrote a response on here.  I feel that we got slightly off track as it started to degenerate into a debate about spammers noob killers and all that usual rubbish.  These are problems that are not easily going to go away.  Players that stream to cause lag deliberately are only going to ruin the game for all the rest.  Stop doing it - or face this place being shut down.  Same goes for all those who seem to feel that because one does it then its a free for all to do the same and that regards a wide variety of gamesmanship techniques - even among some of the so called "veterans".

I am harking back to a topic from long ago - this has NOTHING to do with the MOD but EVERYTHING to do with the attitude of players here.  I dont care if you have a Vanilla mod or 2112 or what ever - it doesnt matter a jot if your ATTITUDE sucks - You will drive players away from the VOID faster than snow on a hot day if you persist in being a jerk towards obviously new players and if you continue to act in a "hard done by" manner.  I know for a fact that I could repopulate the VOID with a dozen players by permanently banning one or two that have realy poor attitudes.  So far they have not crossed the line - but when they do its going to get unpleasant.  

So - if you want to see this place survive - CHANGE YOUR ATTITUDE

Politeness costs nothing. Someone insults you - ignore it.  Someone gives you backchat or comments - be polite and either respond in a neutral fashion with an explanation or simply ignore them.  If they persist  - shoot them again.  Play the game - dont whinge about it or moan about it  - DO IT. PLAY IT.  Dont like it?  Go somewhere else....! If you are a Veteran - start behaving like one.  THIS is what will save this place - not a new mod or whatever but a major change in attitude.

What am I doing?

I am making sure that the server can run and the hosting makes the costs, by spending more of the current time working (earning money). There have been some issues in real life (like the economy) and I have concentrated on making my business work, so I can pay the bills.

Anyway, down to business.

In the first couple of months of this year, I was at the end of my tether with this place. Ego's arguing flaming etc etc. It was a miserable place to be. No matter what I tried to do it was either wrong no good or just flamed. At this point I had had enough. In february, I decided that if there was'nt enough money in donations then the server would be pulled and that would be it. I have given too much of my time to spent money on something that didnt give me any joy or fun anymore. As things progressed things became easier for me, I dived into my business and spent more time doing that than The Void. As March came along I looked at the forums from time to time and thought maybe things were starting to change, however, then some big problems at work meant that I couldnt spend time on what I wanted to. So April is here.

In short, I agree with some of what has been posted here and disagree with others.

Firstly, is there going to be a new mod - Yes there is
Secondly, are we going to be a RP server - NO were not
Thirdly, look at this simple analogy, in the top two servers, one is heavily modded with loads of ships the other is basically minimally modded - Discovery/Hamburg. Both get lots of players. So, it isnt the "Mod" that makes a server, its the players and the community. HHC is a more relaxed server and forums than Discovery, so again it isnt the RP or the Rules people, its the way players interact on the forums etc. The point I am making is that its clear that Disco and Hamburg are two very different servers, both having lots of players. So dont look to one for the magic bullet.

What we are
This server is a shooter server and a modded shooter server at that

Disco isnt, neither is HHC.
Disco is a rp server, you wont find the level of pvp there that you find on void even now, its not their thing. HHC is a pvp server, but not heavily modded.
So we dont have anything to follow from these servers apart from picking out whats good and dropping whats bad.

You see, as I have said all along, if you treat people with respect and be friendly in game, people come back. Once a person has had a bad experience - multi killed, swearing, abuse etc etc they dont come back. Its the same on the forums. In contrast, people like to play where they have fun and enjoy it.Thats why there are lots of other servers with lower populations than ours still going strong.

In summary then...
whilst I can make a mod, the mod is only a small element of server population.
Players need a reason to play here and enjoy it here. Oh and before you say well the mod is tired and old, look again at HHC (Hamburg) its basically running vanilla FL, which is what 8 years old. Both Discovery and HHC have something that we dont and it goes deeper than just "quick fix" things.

I'm not going anywhere neither is the server. As a collective we went to the edge, we looked over the edge and thought about about it for a little while, then we stepped back and looked at what can be. You can decide if you step back or you drag it over with your actions on the server and on the forums.

Thank you Strail, a very valid post with a lot of good points. Good to hear from you again, and I am truely sorry that we have been a source of grief in your life as of late.

well the FAQ team have been attempting to fix part of this since august last year
everytime a new player logs on when were in system we always greet them, and direct them to tips ect
were always put ourselvs out for the void and we love it

Shonen you don't give a crap about this server or its players, just expanding your own ego, something i know you love doing.

Im not leaving because of you, get over yourself. I said i don't like playing here because of everything i've seen in the past few weeks.
Players don't get on here and they don't show ANY respect for each other. Just moaning and abuse.
I've tried to be pleasant to people during my time here because i feel it furthers players enjoyment of the game, and my own for that matter.

Now Shonen, lets look at this from a logical point of view. What have YOU done for the server.

I've tried to bring a little bit of RP to the server, i was part of a good clan that was well respected by the server for its good attitude and i've helped many new players by showing them the basics and generally showing them how to start playing this game online.

You however, spend every second of your time ganking people, laughing at them or making immature comments about how the suck and can't fight. Grow up and learn that this mod doesn't revolve around your ego.

Ok Dark Pandor - chill mate.  We know how Shonen can be.  Leave it at that.

Thanks for the response Strail. Guys - its up to you.  Treat the new people fairly and take the time to maybe explain that they need to register on the forums and do some reading up first.  Even if you are in RP character - at least take the time to explain who you are and what you are about to do - give them the oppertunity to either run, fight or ask for an amnesty.....  The only "safe" space here is New York - but show some restraint if you realise that the player is new.  As "veterans" you need to excersise some common sense and a bit of patience where new players are concerned - it realy is down to you whether this place lives or dies.

Alot of the problems seem to start when these "new players" join dacia in the huge one sided battles.

Now I go out of my way to hunt these guys down when its not a 8 v 1 and there alone. This to me isnt unfair, they made thier bed and they have to lie in it.

To me thats totally acceptable but all they do is moan and groan in game and on the forums when its done back to them.

Am I seriously the only one seeing the lobsided view point coming from many here?.

Some players need to radically change their in-game attitudes. And note that i am saying players. NOT clans. But hey,why be nice when you can troll right?

I've been in the exact same position pandor is/was. My attempts to be nice were scorned and rebuked by players whose attitudes were on the low low.

But all this talk is for nothing. Some rules about sportsmanship should be implimented,and STRICTLY upholded by the server guards. Anyone can cope with spamming,ganking or whatnot ( and if you can't,you should not be playing on a shooter server) . It's the negative attitude that is the TRUE fun killer here.

Some are too blind or too proud to admit that. Others have thier judgements clouded by years of rivalry and hatred. Let bygones be bygones for God's sake! As a newcomer here i must say i see a bigger picture, and it's not pleasant. Everyone is contempt to squirm about in a cesspool of hatred, irony, mean remarks and false condescendence. As long as by the end of the opposing side bites the dust,and the chance to throw in various remarks is taken, everybody is happy.

No one seems to look beyond the crosshair of their cannons...

@ Ent - what I witnessed tonight was not pretty.  I may have misunderstood but you contradicted yourself as soon as I challenged you as to your comments to SAINT Retribution about the rock - it appeared that you had a problem with SAINTS shooting at you,despite your statement that if anyone shot at you, you would shoot them back...?  You got shot at for sitting on the rock in Sparta and then complained about it.   I then challenged your complaint by asking what the problem was with SAINTS RP.  You stated there was not a problem with their RP - yet you had just taken Retribution to task for shooting at you...now was that in jest or were you being serious?  This brinkmanship from you, proto and shonen has to stop,  Its not helping the situation.  In this I ask for your cooperation.

@ Dacai.  STOP.  Realy just stop reacting to the baiting.  This whole "You lag!" "No! You lag!" argument is unhelpful and pointless.  DO NOT tell VOID how to do their jobs either - this is going to provoke an unfriendly response.

There are a thousand and one reasons for lag.  I had one player complain that another was lagging and when I checked the complainer's lag was 146 and the accused players lag was only 46 with NO packet loss.....so you do the maths.  THEN when I pointed this out to the player concerned they had the audacity to QUESTION my ability to check such things.  

READ the following VERY CAREFULY.

1.  You will be asked to decist from baiting and making "death messages" that are provocative and not in the format of "gf" or "vgf".  Failure to comply earns you a kick - continued failure to comply earns you a ban.

2. DO NOT question a request from ADMINS or VOID.  If you are asked to log off and log back on again - DO SO.  Failure to comply will earn you a kick - continued failure to comply earns you a ban.

3. You will be requested NOT to respond to baiting messages.  If you continue to respond you will be kicked and then banned for failure to comply.

4. DO NOT tell ADMINs or VOID how to do their jobs.  Requests to other players are sometimes made in private channels and are not for public viewing.  Baiting a player and then stating "Did you see that?  What are you going to do about it?" will not be met with a friendly response.  Persistence with this sort of behaviour will earn you a kick and then a ban.

REMEMBER THIS:  When ADMIN and VOID are busy policing your poor behaviour we are not getting to play the game we enjoy as we have to monitor the play when behaviour is not at its best.  We could just start banning people and then we could go play the game.  Believe me some of you came very close to it tonight....on BOTH sides of this discussion.

Cut out the Bull - cut out all the "nya nya na naya ya..!" and the baiting. Cut out all the lagger & cheater accusations or face the consequences.  

Deal with it  - or go play somewhere else.  Simple.
