Sorry - back to topic. To take down a battleship you will need at least 3 of you to do it. Problem you will have is - a) the ships own defences and b) the clan members defending it.
Mooring is cool. Moor at planets only and maybe only a couple of larger bases - not the asteriod ones and such. I like the idea that they cannot use the tradelanes - just the Jump Gates. This stops a battle ship just "turning up" during a melee. You will have some warning that the thing has entered the system and can either decide to take it on or to make a run for it.
On the point of mooring. The vessel has to be seen - dont know how you would do this and there should be a limit to the number that can moor - so if you turn up and both moorings are taken then you will have to go elsewhere.
You are going to have to restrict them to a certain number per clan - a maximum of two, or something like that - otherwise you will have the entire ESF clan floating around in Massive Gin Palaces - and the players in charge of them should be tagged. (BS or CS or whatever)
As to the vessel itself - I guess that something along the lines of the Pirate Battle Ships in Babylonia would be a good model to use. Or - the pirate one for the "bad guys" and a Liberty or Rhineland one for the "good guys".
Here is a radical notion - and it might stop the mad rush that there will be for people to be the first to own their own battleship: ONCE IT IS DESTROYED you have to pay a SALVAGE FEE - so not the total cost of buying a new one, but a penalty for loosing your ship. This will prevent them being used without an escort and will make teams THINK about what they are doing with them.
All good suggestions no doubt. I will remain cautious about the whole idea - Im taking bets on when the first post will be about someone "hacking" their battleship or the ship itself being "bugged"....Sorry to be gloomy about this. Not sure its going to be such a good idea -but then its not my server is it..... :D Hope it turns out well and I am proved wrong - which wont be the first time.
