OK guys 4 pages of takig shots at admins complainig etc. Lets get down to business. Strail asked for constructive ideas to clear things up and stepped out to se what we would do. Ok lets act like adults and discuss this without all the pettiness.  I am a freelancer and in my opinion it would be wrong for me to attack players will ynilly. So I say a freelancer that wants to pirate go independant of a clan and use the [X] tag  can we have a vote on this?
Let's get the simple ones done first guys. Looks like the [R] tags are going to be a problem.
Could one of the VOIDS police this thread to keep it on point?

My View Strail :~

1- Allow the use of [R] clans once more on server with seized number of kills stated in Rules for avoiding overkill.
2- About RPs on server - i Guess these Should be the ones on Server.

[R] - Rogue
[N] - Navy
[M] - Mercenary
[T] - Trader
[O] - Order
[X] - Pirate

3- about Clan RPs - Each Clan Get it's RP by admins Auto Fitted to thier characters ( affiliated tags ) when member Prooven Quality and Asure Staying on Clan and Server - By Admin Aprovals - Should be over lvl 40 as Example.

4- Faction Idea For Clans.

This is a Great idea , i saw it on other Server but i added some constructive things to the idea and deleted some negative things from it.. here it is.

Each clan "prooven staying for good time on void" will have a FACTION , actually will BE a faction - So as an exmple if we look Closely to the Clans RP on void , we will notice that some Clans have the RP of Rogue and Some Clans Have What is known by the ( EVIL ) RP which is neither pirate , rogue nor nomads ** Accordingly , the RP of the Clan will be a Faction - So Each Clan Have a System / Home Base "Customed" and the Clan itself be a Faction on the Mod , affiliated with it's RP.

Example. Clan 4S SQUAD - A Navy ( Military ) Clan - thier System is Omicron Delta.
If we applied my idea Here , then when someone Dock into Omicron Delta , He/She should See some Navy npcs everywhere and lots of npcs (navy) all named 4S_SQUAD somthing.

i ve seen the idea on other server - it's amazing - i entered a system for nomads there , a clan named NBL ( Nomad Battle Lords ) -they own a System and a Clan Base (Customed) , And Amazing Npcs all named NBL-alpha 001 etc.. - i Felt like im joining a Real System of Nomads With a Clan of Real Existance and Surroundings.

5- it's All Dependable on Each Others ( Maintaining Server RP and clan RPs -----> Will Auto Mange the Troubles coming from All players being killed by Wrong Tags and all this issue tails -------> Server will be more liked cause turning everything to Pure Role play will Enlighten the Passion for Freelancer once more to players. )

My 3.5 Cents

[quote="shonensan";p="186911"]
freelancers don't need to ask for pvp to TAGGED players, they can attack TAGGED players but they will face the consequences of their action and they will become part of RP (clans have KOS list for what?).

GP but after this that freelancer will make ss and moan to voids for harassment. And the TAGGED players will not be able to proove that the freelancer started to attack. And those who were screened will be banned for harassment.

Oh and i think harassment rules doesn't apply to Tagged players...if a trader choose to RP and he is asked to pay tax and he doesn't want to pay, he can be killed tons of times because he asked for it. Stop defending players that use rules to their advantage. Same thing applies to hunters that blast away hundred of times a pirate or a rogue and vice versa. They are RPing and they know the danger of doing that.[/quote]

Correct. All TAGGED players must act like in real life cause they are role playin. When someone in real life is victim of some thiefs,he call the police or he will just continue his life.In Freelancer he will call friends,police,hunters,navy,whatever...or he will try to avoid the problems. We have "y" key and radars to check and avoid the troubles, troubles like when a lonely tagged player goes right beetwen 4-5 X's and start to shoot at all of them, and those pirates, obviously will shoot back.Tones of times.Than, that lonely player will start to moan instead calling for help or  leaving the area...and confussions will appear...

As ideeas for Rp: make clan bases DESTROYABLE.Hard, but destroyable. It makes a lot of fun, creates a lot of good battles and always has a winner side and a looser side.We make good batles now too,but with no winers and loosers. With a specific purpose,(to destroy an enemy clan base, for example some navy clans stick togheter to attack and try to destroy one of pirate clan base, pirates will call for help, etc),the war is much more sophisticated and funny.

First off, I really like the idea where clan members MUST display an RP tag as well as most of the other ideas that Strail posted.

My thoughts:
I've also seen before a Civilian [CIV] tag.  Basically, a CIV can fight or help any other RP at their will.
+ Side = Good for Freelancers who aren't Rogues but don't want to do X, T, or whatever the Nomad tag is  (is there one?)
   -  Side = Some CIVs could act the part of a Rogue
The [CIV] tag kind of makes Rogue obsolete, but it is kind of like when you walk down the street - you don't know who's good and who's bad.  You know who the police (Hunters) are because of their uniform (tag) and you can often tell the bad guys (Pirates, Nomads) by looking at them too.

An easy solution to the whole RP, tagged, untagged issue might be:
A tag is defined as any letter(s) and/or number(s) enclosed between 2 similar characters that are neither a letter or number.
A tag may be used for Role Play (RP) purposes as in the case of Hunters [H], Traders[T], Pirates, [X], NOMADS [I don't know this one] and/or may be used to denote membership in a clan.
A tag, when used in a name to denote membership in a clan, must be accompanied by the primary Role-Play (RP) tag of that clan.
Tagged players can only shoot other tagged players.  All tagged players are fair game to be shot by any other tagged player without warning.
Untagged players are to be left alone unless they request or agree to PvP prior to any shooting.  Likewise, they will not fire on tagged players or other untagged players before PvP is agreed to by both players.
If a player wants to go around and shoot who they want, then they can tag.
If they like to do some of each they can have 2 different characters - 1 with tags and 1 without.
(This would also keep it simple enough that Server staff wouldn't have to be bugged with deciphering whether or not someone was doing the right RP.)

However, the fewer rules the better.

I like Strail's:  Clans will tag
Pirates will tag - don't ask for money unless you have an [X] tag.
Everyone else - do as you will.

I do, however, think Clans should tag their Role-Play.
It shows that the clan has a purpose, and isn't just a bunch of players either:
a) out to bully any player not in their group or
b) out to try and blackmail the server staff into getting their way.

I will  be brief:

Money is made to easily, and there are no incentives for anyone to revive the X RP when all that they can ask is 200k, but if they are trading they can earn more than 1mil in less than 1 minute. Bringing back the old alex gate configuration and eliminating the Omicron alpha trade route would do wonders for gameplay on this server.  + I have to say I like shonen's idea of having no more than 3-4 tags on the server that ALL clans would be forced to wear so that we could put an end to clans having no RP or playing according to it only when that suits them.

@ strail & the staff: You all know that we had countless topics like these, but very few things (none of which were important) changed afterward. I urge you to gather around, use the opinions from this topic and propose some modifications on the current rules that would benefit the playability and bring back the old glory to this server. Just please; do something before it all goes into offtopic and gets forgotten.

OK, I'm back, just with this.

Untagged players (Freelancers) can act however they want to act, kill whoever they want to kill, whenever they want to do it.

Make up a new tag for people that CANNOT interact with any other player on the server. This means he/she can only interact and fight with NPC's. They would not be able to attack or be attacked by anybody else. In essence they would be just playing by themselves.

I think this would work, because it would give certain players a wake up call. When they get kill in their untagged Freelancer, then come crying to the admins, simply say, if you don't want to participate, make an NPC only char. Those that do would make one, live happy for a day, even a week, but I think they would eventually go back to a Freelancer character. It teaches them a lesson in life, that they would rather be shot at than completely ignored. And it also give the new players a chance to experience the Void and everything in it, without being disturbed.

If it's possible, I think that these NPC only chars should not be able to type in system chat, and cannot use commands like the bank command. No system chat would mean that they couldn't encourage interaction with them, and the no bank commands would mean that they couldn't start an NPC only char and trade on it then giving it to a Freelancer char, without having to be taxed by Pirates.

I see only 3 ppl complaining about how restriction for freelancers not to act as R is unfair.
There are 917 active players (300-400 actually) and there is so much discussion about what 3 players think???? And 2 of them have little or no respect among void community !
Do they really care about the server or just settling old scores?

I don't know who are the players you're referring to, but I think you're in no position to evaluate anyone's "respect" in the community, Liman... so please deflate and come down to earth.

This is the definition of a freelancer according to TheFreeDictionary ( Link to the definition )

free·lance
n. also free lance
1.  A person who sells services to employers without a long-term commitment to any of them.
2. An uncommitted independent, as in politics or social life.
3. A medieval mercenary.

So as you can see, freelancers can do what they please; they can trade, they can hunt pirates and NPCs, and of course, they can kill. If we would go with your logic, then freelancers should also be restricted from hunting unlawfuls if they don't have a [H] tag, and yes (*laughter*) they should also be constrained from trading without having a [T] tag. Killing is nothing more than an element of the game, just as exploring, doing missions, trading and etc. so dump your "theories" and wake up from that illusion you're currently in.

I cannot believe a group of people with an interest in a game cannot sit down and discuss things without resorting to insults and personalities.
GUYS WAKE UP. Strail  asked for our help that seems to say he and others have reached thier wits end on this matter.
Take up the challenge and rise to maturity and help solve this. I see your point about freelancers and am willing to acknowledge that this is most likely the correct way to play freelancer. I for one will not attack traders or police except in protection of my cargo or salvage. But I can change for RP.
As for the [X] [R] [A]  [H] or [T] tags whatever is decided is fine with me.. But lets work out something to make the admins and VOIDS job easier not harder. I know some of the guys like to kill kill kill  I have at least 3 friends like that.  2 things we need do tho are establish whether a clan player can wear a x or r tag. I don't see why not if they are unlawful. A player in a military clan wanting to pirate can make a pirate char not in the clan to reduce confusion about clan RP. As for bad guys like the [Black Legion] thier RP is hostile so why make them tag pirate. B y definition of thier RP they are evil. I think it best that new players with just a name remain neutral til they get the feel of the game and pick a way to go Second we need to stop gate camping. This focuses the fights in a limited area and makes getting thru dangerous for non role players. Besides I get no fun if I can't tease the guys in chat to hunt me like I did for Doomsday tonight. He went all the way to Gamma to get me. I appreciated it but I was tired and failed to get past NPCs once. So I owe Doomsday a fight at a later date. Please Doomsday hunt me up win or lose its just a click of the button to be back in game and I have a new setup to try lord knows the other one stunk.

I think it should be understood the rulesw against repeat kills do not apply  when a player attacks like I did -=R=- tonite.
he jumped me and killed me I came right back and fired on him. New people this means I am ready again and its not his choice. By the way R next time you have to hold still til I get 2 free shots LMAO.

Re: In-Game Tag Discussion

Post by Zebulon »

I am going to keep this real simple.  As to Venoms comment - What???!  Constructive answers and suggestions were requested so thats what Strail got.  Again, Shonen pretty much refined it for me and its like Strail said - simple is good.
I put in the thing about the non tagged freelancers cos there is so much whinging about being shot for no reason. A separation of the two "roles" is JUST a suggestion.  To answer Venom's somewhat interesting view on where Venom is placed - here is your answer - get an untagged character and go shoot your fellow untagged characters as often as you want -no complaints, no whinges.  You want to RP? Pick a Clan or a Tag and stick to the RP.  What could be simpler.  Thats if my suggestion were to be implemented of course....
;)

Whilst I agree with Strail we seem to have become a little more "sophisticated" in our responses to Tags and RP.  A "do what you want" server has people doing it and then being told off for doing it. I understand about the server rules - but others seem to conveniently forget and then complain when the rules are enforced.  If a clan has an RP and its clearly stated then there should not be a problem.  If people cant be bothered to find out what the clans do or even ask in game then all I can say is "Bad Luck" and dont come crying to me because you didnt bother to check first.

The removal of the R tag is a possibility - that would mean that ANYONE that is a freelancer and untagged is a potential threat ie - a Rogue and if they behave like it then it shouldnt come as a surprise to new players - then again we have the problem of experienced players slaughtering new players and then the cycle of complaints starts all over again.  This would however reintroduce an element of Fear and Dread, something that other clans succeeded in doing and some emulated with mixed success, but only if those doing so can be trusted to excersise COMMON SENSE and a bit of RESTRAINT now and again.

Face it guys - you cant have it all your own way.  There has to be compromise at some level.
To Many Rules and RP regulations = Stagnation and a non threatening and clinical RP environment
To Few Rules and RP Guildlines = Reduction in numbers and a dominance of a few players and clans = no fun

Get the balance right and this place will remain am excellent place to play and may even improve.  Pander to the few and you loose all credibility and you might as well turn off the server.  Give me clear guidlines within which to operate and I will execute my role as VOID as efficiently as I can. Give the players CLEAR guidlines and they can play without fear of reprisals from VOIDs:

"Fun For All" - remember that?  Whilst we are keen to please and to balance the VOID remember this also:
If You Dont Like It - Go Play Somewhere Else......

I await the A-Teams decision.

Re: In-Game Tag Discussion

Post by Maverick »

This thread is filled with interesting views. And a lot of them are very good ones in my opinion. But we need to remember what is best for the whole server, and with that it is crucial we find a solution that will not only create a playable and fun environment for the (majority of) players, but also creates an attractive format for new players. And not to forget a clear set of rules on which the [VOID]s can act from in order to preserve that environment. I agree that for that we need simplicity. So I remain with my previous view, which is a mix of Strails and Zebs idea.

Keep it simple:

- Keep tagged and non-tagged player interaction separated.
  • Freelancers are allowed to do anything, as long as they play in the spirit of the game and do not give relatively low leveled new players a hard time which will make them loose their fun
  • If a freelancer ONLY acts like a Rogue, he should make an [R] tagged char
  • Clans do not need a tag other than their clan one, but are free to put one on if they want to emphasize their intentions. To be clear: Clans ARE RP, except for affiliations which make it clear to anyone through their name (ie. AoF) that they do not partake in Roleplay
  • Officially recognized tags would be [T], [X], and [R]; and players would be free to think up other tags like [H] and [A]
  • Tagged (RP) chars can only shoot other tagged players; untagged (non-RP) chars can only shoot other untagged (non-RP) players. Interaction between tagged and non-tagged players would not be allowed, since it would breach the clear boundary between RP and non-RP.
  • [VOID]s will have a strict policy checking up on the above. Now we don't want a Disovery-like situation in here, but we have to make sure the separation remains a clear one at all times. I believe this could be reached by respectively a warning, then a fine, followed up by kicks and in extreme situation a ban, starting with a one-day one.

That would be about it I think. If we do it this way, I believe we create a clear line between RP and non-RP, and a fun a playable environment for all. It would benefit the overview new players would have when they first come here, as it would create a clarifying situation for the server police to work with. In other words a good compromise for all.

In that light, I would suggest that [VOID]s should act a little bit more strict and reprimand players who do not respect the separation in RP and non-RP. Ie repeatedly kill pirates in their freelancer chars. Now I repeat we should't go down the Discovery way and serve bans to any player not living up to this, but we do need to keep the separation clear, because the only main difference with the current situation is the non-interaction between tagged and non-tagged players. Clearly the current situation needs improvement, and if we don't keep a clear line between RP and non-RP, we will fall back in the current set-up.

I would also like to suggest we make a thread which would remain at the top of the first forum page at all times, informing new players about the Void format and the separation between RP and non-RP. This would prevent a lot of confusion I think. We could have a few volunteers work on that, like the Wiki thing. In fact, the Wiki thingy and the Void format thread could be the same.

Re: In-Game Tag Discussion

You can't possibly force people not to interact with each other based on tags or RP
Hell, if it was after me i'd say that all tags should be removed and everyone should play the game as he pleases (exeption would be clans who wish to interact in a different way)
Clans should post about their intentions on the forums and all the players should stay up to date with their in-game conduct so that there won't be any complaints or surprises when players get shot down by an evil clan member for example
Navy clans like 4S and Dacia are not wearing any tags attached to their nickname yet play the game in the spirit of RP sometimes
Same can be said about 666, EU or Eclipse (sadly not very active) evil clans who will open fire on you no questions asked (also without wearing tags)
All i'm saying is that people new or old-alike should stay up to date with the website especially the clans section and gather some valuable information
As for Freelancers they can of course kill other players as long as they don't abuse their powers (meaning consecutive killing of the same player in a row or acting like an in-game evil clan member by opening fire on every encountered player on sight) Freelancers should be the more "mannered" like in-game players

*edit* the only tag that should be kept would be the [X] tag
