Uhh...dude that thing looks like heat melted it.

Ethier that or the soughter from the fan and heat sink broke off.

Have you been moving?

If not, and that's what the Vid card looked like when you got it, you need to call the dealer of that vid card NOW and tell them to get you a new card man.

That's definately jacked up lookin'. i've never seen anything like that. how old is that card btw?

Wow... I've never seen one like that before. WHat happened to it?

Way is right. That's your heat sink. The gray stuff in the middle is the thermal compound. The while thing is an insulator. The compound needs to be pressed firmly & precisely placed between the sink and the processor to keep it from overheating and burning out. The insulator sits over the board surrounding the processor to protect it.

It if came like that return it.

If not, you will have to reseat it or get a new one. Does it work right? At least last time you used it?

If you are going to reseat it, get some compound... Arctic Silver is the best. It's not expensive. Then carefully clean off all the goop from all the parts, spread a thin even layer on the heat sink, place it where it belongs and secure it by whatever screws or clamps come with it.

I've got a powercolour x800 GTO and it's the first ATI card I've ever owned...but it's got no problems whatsoever...

I think it has a lot to do with manufacturer tbh rather than the chipsets in use..for example XFX make absolutely cracking Nvidia based cards and Saphire usually make good ATI based cards.
