Its like people "blowing themselves up" when they are about to die. Now, its an old argument, but I am not convinced that these are accidents - particularly amongst some of the more experienced players who do not mine spam and do (unlike me!) know how to use their torps properly. I have two accidental suicides to my name - one from a mine and one from a torp. Keeping with the subject - When I first questioned the "diver" function - I was curtly told by a well know Pirate Clan (not DTA) - " Idiot - its to stop players registering a kill /suicide when they are badly damaged during a friendly PvP".....at the time not many people were doing it - It was a bit like F1 out of combat with NPC's - or so I thought. Accidents happen. If you fly VERY close and through the gates in Alex and you are badly damaged - yes you will hit the gate and crash - it could be part of a tactic to avoid the enemy when u are out numbered that unfortunately ends in a "Dive". I hit a planet once during combat when I chased someone to the gates at DEMOS and crashed - I was berated by Netsphere Blaster for it - I told him politely that it was an accident - Somehow I dont think he believed me - (Oh yes before I forget, It was a member of that clan who told me I was an Idiot) I decided not to make it a habit and to start watching where I was headed.
Once in a while - when maybe you are a novice at combat, as I am - you are going to "screw up" and hit a very large object - But habitual planet divers - And they Know Who They Are (I wont name my favourite as that would be unfair) C'mon - you can do better than that - deny the other guy the frag for shooting you up? Poor - Very Poor
Just the musings of an old space dog....................Zeb 8)

If I understand this right, it's about people who dive into a planet to avoid being killed by another player. I almost did this in a fight while avoiding a torpedo. I barely escaped the crash and the torpedo and the fight without dying. I have been on this server for about 3 1/2 months and have achieved a monumental 1 kill on my frag list. I am not a pvp fighter as a rule but i have seen this tactic used by others to avoid the kill. I personally believe that this is the same as the player i saw sitting inside a system gate to get a good shot at someone as they came out of it. If you can't do better than this you aren't playing you are just ruining it for others.
As far as you being old, Zeb, yer still younger den poor old broke down beat up Argh...

I am new to FL and i have played a lot of games, including some RPGs, a suicide is a death in all games I have seen.
Yes, the arguement might be old but its considered as death in every other game.
In UT, CS etc FPS games it lowers your effeciency, "why would you fall into lava? learn the game"
In MMORPGs like runescape and WOW, theres no concept of suicide, if you die, you lose all the stuff you are carrying.
FL is a cross b/w RPG and FPS.
And in FL, it shd be like "Don't dive into planets, learn to fly". if your ship is damaged in a PVP, pay for it to reapair your stuff. And in most cases that loss of money isn't much, merely 1/50th of the amount ppl spend spamming missiles and torpidoes in one fight. The way planet diving is abused by some players, I would rather start using regen if I happen to play against such players. I don't care about my frag count. Well infact I don't care about my stats in any game. Video games should be played for fun and people should have a bit of sportsmanship in them. Else its not funu for a lot of people.
There was an arguement going on today and a dude who claims to have 4 children says that he doesn't care for the fun of other players, but his own. I pity grown up ppl with that kind of attitude. If i would not care about the fun of other players, i would rather cheat. Why is cheating bad? Ever heard about fair and unfair advantages in games? Its an old arguement..I don't think i need to tell anybody about it.
In all other RPG and FPS games, there are clan fights with equal number of people on both sides. When someone asks you for it you should accept it instead of doing a 10 v 3 and planet diving. Such poor sportsmanship can be expected if the player is a kid. But if you are a grown up, you are only telling us about your place. I am glad I am not from that same place.
ESF is a major culprit of planet diving, so how come the post?
Planet diving to reload your ship/fix dmg out of combat is one thing
To escape being shot down is totally another.
Ugh... ESF is a culprit of planet diving. So they want to convert it into death count.
What a paradox, or am I just dumb?
I personaley Have used this tactic in the past  its simpley when a fight is mostley at a stalemate or someones piloting a missle spamming titnium crusher  and im not in a fighting mood.. that i might planet dive
how is this a tactic????
it doesnt improve your chances of winning a battle...
it doesnt improve your defence in any way....
you dont respawn with an enhanced ship the next time
its plain and simple
your cheating...........
its cheating someone out of a kill
your cheating yourself by not learning to win a fight 'against the missle spamming TC's'
your cheating the people that made the game because thats not what the made the planets for....
its a space game.....YOUR SUPPOSED TO AVOID the planets
i wish i wish i wish i wish people could be auto fined for this as well as F1ing out. would be so much better.
when not in a pvp i can understand and i have done it myself....
when exploring the deep reaches of the void and i get so far from anywhere i dive to respawn at the last planet/dock....
using it when in a fight...i have no respect for people that do that....

Well, nice post Enchantress.
But your arguement has logical flaws.
Kill them faster.
Should it be a big - I'm talking el grande burrito big - scale fight, say Clan ABC versus Clan XYZ, then either the leaders should simply agree on whether to allow "it" in the fight or not. Hell, if they have even a tiny bit of that invisible and imaginary thing called (Warning: Incoming Caps.)
-=)]| H O N O R |[(=-
then they wouldn't planet-dive anyway during such serious buisness. Except if it's an accident. Those did, do, and will always happen sometimes.
Then again, correct me if I am wrong, this is just a game and no one has the right to tell me whether I should behave here like in that thing with the cool graphics called "Real Life".
Yeah I agree with you, its not real life, just a game. Who would care for (Warning: Incoming Caps.)
-=)]| H O N O R |[(=- in a game? Everybody plays a game by its rules, anything that is allowed is acceptable.
Besides, the way I saw it, clan battles doesn't happen as friendly team games. Some clans do (For Exp) 7 v 2 and they call it fun. So no rules can be agreed upon before a clan battle.
Then again, in clan battles, when its 7 v 2 , you cannot kill someone in a team of 7 real fast. And when those players with higher number planet dives, they end up with almost 0 deaths. Which is quite unfair making a already unbalanced 7 v 2 game to 7^x v 2.
[
As I said, you lose nothing and he/she who planet-dived will sooner or later realize how much of a loser he/she is. Should he/she come back and kill you because you didn't want to planet-dive too, guess what, I'll use the SHIFT-Key this time for the extra eye-bleeding factor:
~T~o~U~g~H L~u~C~k~.
Thats just your opinion, most people don't realise anything. Thats why there are laws in the society and rules in the games. Things that can be controlled by power has to be controlled by power, and its the job of the admins.

well...you all are right, it's just a game, but it really can be annoying of some people kill helpless FL players and always run away/planet dive only for getting/keeping good fragdetails. That's not what they are made for..
Maybe admins change something, maybe not. It's just a game so take it easy

It's just a game, and if someone really needs/wants his fragdetails because it's the only thing he likes, let him score him frags with that way. YOU know how he got them

If someone wants do that he will do that, that's all
Anyway if I hunt someone and he will do a cratering or planet diving I say "gf" coz I won and he died. Target destroyed.
