Grudges/ROLE PLAY/Diplomacy

Hello everyone,
I would like to start off by saying that FL in the VOID is one of the best gaming experiences I have had. I have met a lot of good people here who enjoy this gem of a game equally. Thanks to strail and all of those involved for creating such an interactive diverse environment.
Now, I may be just a pup when it comes to FL, but I am no pup when it comes to life. I have children in my home, some of them as old as the people that I am playing with in the VOID. And, there are too many grudges that I have seen here lately. I havnt been around the VOID long enough to understand the politics and diplomacy fully. And, POL and DIP makes the game that much more interesting. I love the role play. But that’s all it is friends, role play. There is absolutely no reason why we can not communicate with each other in a more civilized manner, a little more respect for one another. Find the HONOR within yourselves, and play with honor in the game. It will last longer, trust me. Everyone here has something to teach the next person. And by being friends and talking to one another, the intricacy of the game can progress even further.
I have heard talk of Sparta once being a place where all could gather to train and practice with one another, lately it seems to be a territory to control. I have heard of pilots being attacked in the EFZ, which is a no RP zone from what I understand. But that’s just a side note, whats important here is that we all get back to what ROLE PLAY is all about.
Example: if a clan attacks another clan in there system, don’t get mad, play your role, and give due respect, this IN YOUR FACE stuff has to end. If a clan member flies into a rival clans system and gets gangbanged, well, you should expect that, its part of the game, just play the role. If you are transporting goods and get taken out by pirates or rouges, don’t get mad, its part of the game, just play the role.
One other thing, DOCK RAPING is WRONG. It has happened to all of us one time or another. Flying bugged ships in RP battles is WRONG, especially when bragging about a 10 to 1 kill ratio afterwards. If you want to use bugged ships or magical thruster/afterburners, that fine, I don’t care, but don’t use it in ROLE PLAY. This is a very fun game and yes the diplomacy can become emotional, that’s part of what makes this game so interesting. And the potential of this game is far from over, but we need to be friends playing our roles, and like I already said, the intricacy of the game will grow.
Take care all, and god speed...
your bro Troubleshooter, aka HONOR (=ESF=CMDR*HONOR)
the one who gets shot down a lot, lol

Thank you for your post. This is something that is raised on quite a regular basis and seems to run in cycles. Whilst I am an advocate of RP, the VOID was not set up as a strictly RP server, but I take your point about remembering that it is a game. On a "technical" point - Dock Raping cannot happen here. To be more precise I suspect that you are refering to Dock Pinning, which is the practice of hanging around directly outside the Dock ring waiting for the other player to emerge and engaging him as soon as his 60 seconds of free space is up. Some pirates and most rogues have been known to attack players as they are in the process of docking - in order to execute such a kill you need to be quick before the invlunerability cuts in. Most traders are exposed to this risk. The solution to this is to learn how to speed dock. This takes a little practice and can save your "life".
Killing in the EFZ. Ok - EFZ is the one place where -=REAVERS=- players are permitted to engage in conversations. Its a great place for events and for practice. Invited PVP etc. It is the one place where the RP doesnt need to apply. Random attacks and Rogue behaviour in the EFZ does seem to be out of place with the nature of this area.
Now - Sparta on the other hand is NOT a chat and date area. If you are AFK in this area or anywhere else for that matter (other than NY) you are setting yourself up to be shot at. Not everyone sees the message and lets face it, if you are going to be AFK for a while it does make slightly more sense to actually DOCK. I apologise in advance ( and I may well have apologised before also) but -=REAVERS=- will take full advantage of any slackness that occurs in Sparta - dont go sit on the rock and feel that you are invulnerable as you sit and type chatty to your buddies. We are quite happy to shoot at you whether you are moving or not.
Unsporting? Possibly. But it beats the heck out of F1 and changing characters every time you get threatend, which is another trend that has crept back into the VOID.
We live and learn - and as you pointed out, this is just a game and VOID is one of the better places to play FL. Most people get on with one another. There are some exceptions and that is to be expected in a varied community like this one. Do you get on with everyone in your life? I suspect not. Those people that we dislike we tend to avoid as it makes for an easier life, but sometimes they are not avoidable and we have to confront things that we dont like. The benefit of the VOID is you can always switch off for a bit , make a cup of tea and come back to the game at a later date.
There have been many topics like this raised before and they will continue to happen. If you check back through the archives you will see that this is the case.
All that has to happen is this: 1. Obey the Server and Forum Rules 2. Listen to what the ADMINS and VOID guardians are telling you. Do these things and you will have a fun stay here. Break the rules, cheat, flame and abuse and your days will be numbered - you will either leave or be thrown out.
Just my twopence worth - Zeb :D

The great thing about RP is there is only 1 person who can control how you conduct your RP, and that is YOU. Other people may not like how you do your RP but don't worry about them. You will earn respect from other players as long as you stick to your true RP.
A lot of players don't necessarily like my Rogue RP, especially when I pop on radar and ghost them. But I bet most every player here respects my Rogue RP. :)

Sparta was an oasis for freelancer higher learning, If you had no heart you wouldn't last there long. To be accepted as part of that group that hung in Sparta was an honor (It was an honor to me anyway). All that's gone now and a wealth of piloting skills went with it.
Dock raping is a moral issue at best, there is no rule as far as i know about it. But it seems that deep down people would feel that it's wrong. The same goes with gang banging and other issues based on freelancer ethics. There is no way you can gauge your personal progress by fighting someone with 4 other guys chasing him too. That's probably why the old school cats didn't do it, as personal skills outweighed group fighting skills
My type of RP comes from the Mechwarrior series, I go way back to Ghost Bear where everything was about the honor of the clan. We would do nothing to dishonor the clan. If you did no clan would accept you and you would be shunned. That level of RP is not practiced here, not even sure if it could be. But RP is based on a persons own reality so expect it to fluctuate wildly. Personally i just think clans have just been lazy. Why does every clan have territory but only one clan on Void actually defends it and we all know that ESF (sorry tasted my lunch again). If it wasn't for the Reavers RP would be totally dead.

I think RP has always been a problem child in freelancer. Strictly speaking, Freelancer isn't a MMORPG. Some servers enforce RP stronger than others and sometimes the RP Mix just doesn't add up. Naturally, since none of which is actually set in stone, there are plenty of creases to iron out in order to get the perfect RP balance and even then it will never please everyone. Of course then there is the question of
should RP be forced on players who simply don't want to RP. I guess we all like to play the game from our own unique perspective.
Flying bugged ships in RP battles is WRONG
You don't even want to go there. If you spare 10 minutes of your time to browse the forums you will find a whole novels worth here somewhere.
Anyhow, I hope you enjoy your stay in this little universe we call the Void
Regards
Lloyd

thanks for the input everyone . It helps me to understand the nature of the game a little better. and like i said, i am new here so i will say that i do not have everything figured out , nor will i ever , most likely. but, the responses from everyone so far is encouraging. it would be great to get more people to come to the VOID and stay here as some FL servers are shut down in the near future (from what i hear). fair play and a sense of decency will help to promote that. all in all, i think this is a great place to play....

Welcome To Void, yes u seem to be understanding Void and what is happening to it.
This place is very complicated especially when it comes to RP,it seems people do have "RP Buttons" which they switch on and off.
Nevertheless things are bound to improve on the RP front so i believe.
