1. Sniper - Someone who uses long range slow reefire weps to take down their target. staying out of reach of their foes
2. Brawler - Someone who uses rapid fire weps and mainly concentrates on getting in close and using evasive techniques in close quarters battles
3. Red Dotter - Nuf said
4. Missile Ships - exactly what it says on the tin
5. Trader - Someone who runs at the mere sight of danger as they try to protect their cargo and their behind as they know for a fact that a couple of shots from anyone here will make them into a pretty light show ;o)

I think it's being overlooked that some players (

) try to use a balanced armament. Missiles and sniping weapons probably don't mix well. But brawler weapons and a few missiles/torps mixed in makes a powerful combination. It's harder for your opponent to defend against both the inside-attack of a brawler working in tight to get your flank or six and watch for the well-placed pass with a projectile as well. If you master the inside attack and can swing around on your opponent with a missile or torp between the eyes when the opening presents itself, boom.
It takes practice to do it well without making youself vulnerable, but if you get it, it's a great style.

I think missiles and sniper weapons can mix quite well, just takes the right blend of movement and timing.
Also Shonen, i disagree that using a missile makes your movements and aim poor, you still need aim to drop the shield and on void missiles aren't enough for one shot kill (unless your using 4-5 missiles in which case wtf...) so you do need some aim.
Also your movements can become incredibly good as instead of finding the perfect place to shoot, your doing excactly the same with a missile.
Also, isn't there also Boxers here? People who specialise in reverse thrust and strafe to win fights?
Not too sure, but i've seen 1-2.

Albeit I sniped a lot, I took care to have as most advantages on my side.
On most of my sniper ships, I added a missile or two, plus CD, to make sure I can react to different threats in multiple ways. i.e. missels- if used right- can be a great tool against boxers

Much truth there
small addition to missile damage: the damage a target receives depends on the ship layout, too. You propably have noticed some ships seem more "vunerable" to missile damage than others.
This is because most "vanilla" ships are made of many parts (i.e. Right wing, left wing etc) which all can be shot individualy. Most "mod" ships (at least in the last years) where made up of just "one" piece.
Of course, visually they can have wings etc....but they don't have them as destructable parts.
Now, a missile does splash damage- explosion radius. Say a missile hits the centre of the ship for 5k damage. If your ship consists of just one "Part", it's 5K in total.
Now, if there are other destructable parts on that ship, which are in the radius of explosion....same example as above. 5K on centre body. And a splash of 2.5K on both right and left wing. In total: 10K of damage, or double as much as a "one part" ship will get.
That's just one reason hammerheads hate missiles :D
Cheers

Edit: and a skilled missile user needs to track many parameters, too- i.e. he needs to know in which direction each ship launches it's CM
