Freelancer - The Void

Greetings all,

After a few years away I have started a new char on my desktop after my young son started one up on the laptop (Captain Rex) so we run at the same time.  (I run Commander Fox - can you tell we're both Star Wars fans?)
 Unfortunately after he was shot up a few times by one of the Reavers, he decided to mock them and now it looks as though he managed to get both computers banned from accessing ANY of the Freelancer Servers through multiplayer.  
 Just wondering if he has indeed managed to get himself banned by the powers that be (Although there is nothing on the "banned" forum), or whether we have a problem with our system.
 Really enjoying exploring the mod and hope to continue to do so.

Welcome to Void mate,you chose the right server,i don't much about the 'ban' issue,you will have to ask the Admins,PM them with details.

The protocol for banning is normaly "Warning, Kick, Ban" depending on the gravity of the offense.  Teasing REAVERS will just get you shot... and thats all part of the game.  Being offensive /arrogant and a PITA will normaly see you warned first.  Given there is no post to say why he was banned I would look elsewhere for the problem. You may have to reload the FL / VOID mod to get it to "unlock"  - any other problems please address to our technical area on the Forum as I have the tech knowledge of a slug.... Have fun, stick to the rules and watch your back...!

You can't have been banned this way, because there is no way to ban somebody from ALL Freelancer servers. I don't think there was one when the global server was running, either - but since it's no longer up now, there's certainly no way now :) The problem probably lies someplace else, then, which is kinda curious. Did you change anything on your system before this happened?

A word of advice to your son, though: if somebody shoots you up, you should either stand and fight back, or try to flee, as mocking your opponents won't do you any good and will only come back to bite you in the [whoops] :P


Edit: I've checked with our clan members, and they've told me about an important detail that your son might have forgotten to tell you. After he was finally killed (the first time he taunted us, he managed to escape), he made a character called -=REAVERS=-R_loosers and flew around in that. According to the rules, creating a fake clan character is a bannable offense, and since there was a VOID guard online at that time, that's what probably happened. Still, you should PM them to check if this was the case.
Even if he was banned from the Void, however, that doesn't stop you from connecting to other servers. Did you try unloading the Void mod before you did that?

Hi, I know what the problem with you not being able to connect is.

The server list was once hosted by Microsoft, all servers went to their "Global Server". However, this was either shut down by Microsoft, or hacked by someone and it no longer works, but this is a FL community debate I won't go into here as it's not the place.

The FL community designed a tool to display the servers, called the "Global Server Workaround". This gets the servers from the "FL Server List", so you can still see and connect to the servers. The Void mod includes this workaround, that's why servers appear in the list. However, from time to time, the workaround stops working for one reason or another, but you can still connect to the Void, and here's how:

Right click your Freelancer icon on desktop
Select "Properties"
Find the "Target" box
Add a space to the end of the current text, then copy and paste in -s85.14.217.82:2302
This should make it look like this:

[Existing Text][SPACE]-s85.14.217.82:2302

Apply and close.

This should make the Void server appear by using a direct connection method, and once the Global Server Workaround kicks back in, you will be able to see the rest of the servers too.

Making fake clan characters is a naughty thing to do for many reasons. But as far as I know it's not a permanent ban. Glad to have your son back too if/when the senior staff lifst the ban.

As the -=REAVERS=- clan leader I am asking here and now that it be done. We all make mistakes and we all hopefully learn from them.

-=REAVERS=- are the bad guys. Not the only ones either. The Void is a dangerous place. Many of us play an RP (Role Play) style, and if we're a killing clan, as the -=REAVERS=- are, then we go after our victims... albeit within the Void's playing rules. We don't want to be banned either. By joining the Void I believe that's a tacit acceptance of how the game is played here in the Void. Killing players in-game isn't personal. Ask us decent questions, and you get decent and helpful replies. I make sure of that. But taunt or disrespect us and you're fresh meat but even still, it's nothing personal. At least not from our perspective. We hope other players don't take it personally either.

And if I have misunderstood what's been said above and there was no ban... nevermind.  :D
