I'm not making this post with any intention to undermine the void or any of the players. I'm just trying to give a suggestion about the gameplay here. I've been in many good fights here on the server. There is a problem though in my view and I'm sure some people probably share it:
Whenever there is a fight between some people, it does not take long for it to end in whining and complaints. The reason for this I believe is the fact that almost all fights turn into a respawn war.
This just means that you get killed, you respawn, you come out of the planet again and fight all over again. What this brings is just a lot of confusion I believe. Let's imagine you're haveing a fight for a territory. How do you know if you won? Because people leave cause they're bored or it's time for bed? I just don't think that's a good and effective way to fight. Also, when people are fighting for example 4vs4, there are always other people that come and unbalance the fight, this happens all the time. It is not understandble why people do this. Fights should be balanced, skill should count for more than numbers. What I'm trying to say is that it's not fun for anyone to be ganked and it's also not that fun to gank someone. Isn't it better to have a challenge? I for one think it's much more fun to be challenged than to just win cause there's more people on my side.
This is all just to say that there must be another way to do these major fights. I know it would be hard for people to agree to leave all fights balanced and not join in one that is going on but, for the sake of the game, RP and fun, couldn't we all do it? Wouldn't it be more fun and RP oriented if people could do last team or man standing fights? It would be so much more real and effective than just respawning countless times. I've been to other servers and there's a good way to do this. Players, when killed must wait at least 10 minutes to engage in the fight again and during those 10 minutes they must leave the battle scene. This way it is clear whp is winning, who's got the upper hand and who doesn't. A tthe same time, it would be easier to make battle plans and such as fights would be so much more organized.

My opinion is that something like this would just revive the RP in void. I for one am sick of purposeless, unbalanced fights that go nowhere.
This is just my opinion and suggestion. It probably does not count for a lot since I'm fairly new here but, I felt that I had to say it anyway.
Please don't make this a flame post, I did not write it with that intention and I just think it's not right to start accusing each other of stuff. Please make your comments if you agree with me or not. Also, if you're interested in this way of fight, more Rp oriented PM me. Maybe we can arranje a fight or something like that. Fun, isn't that what we all crave for?

In my first Fl year we got the AC Rule. Means Area Clear. If you got a fight and all your Enemies are docked, cause they wewere killed, you type AC in sys chat and win the fight.

:-? This is an interesting idea indeed.  The thing is that here on "Ye Olde Void" the gameplay has been "If it moves - shoot it".  Gangs or Clans get together and paste the living doodads out of each other - and for the most the "respawn" fight has become the normal way of things here.  The fact that most get all hissy and pissy about it shows nothing more than a level of inability to cope with the frustration of taking a beating, I include myself in the whinger category on occasions.

Ok - next time you introduce the IAF as invading somewhere, rather than supercede the existing "spawn war" system of normal Free For All combat, introduce the occasion as an EVENT and specify that you dock outside the system - so no one docks at Leeds - rather than dock outside you have one faction at the far end of the system and the others at the other end - so no respawning from Leeds and a "time out" before re entering the fight.  Mow the problem here is that you are pretty much going to have to self regulate the "Time Outs" - the deal would have to be that maybe a VOID or ADMIN would have to keep a close eye on the Respawn Points and watch for who is respawning before the time out is finished.  That way its easier to know who "won" or not.

You could apply the same thing to Clan Wars - but that would have to be for specific battles - say a war were to consist of X number of rounds regulated in the way you have suggested - then there would be a clearer indication as to who the Victors were - we would also keep the idea that in a war you attack your opponent regardless of numbers as regular "respawn battles" as per a shooter server would indicate.

Thanks for this suggestion - would be keen to hear what others think about this.....(might come as a surprise to some!)

ok
on my old server Hunters accociation 5 (which died over 3 year ago)
we used to have something called the "3 death rule"

if you die 3 times by the same player, you must leave the system for 12 - 24 hours

that was one of the best traits that server had, the only reason the place died was bacause the admins fought each other

3 death rule is harsh but effective
it allows teams to actually win a fight in a system

I wouldn't know. I fight for the fight itself, I couldn't care less about the outcome, nor do I see why anyone would. You don't get a medal if you win.
Having to sod off for 10 minutes would only serve to take most of the actual fighting out of the fight, especially since I generally have to dock 50k+ away from the scene of battle anyway since I don't dock on lawful factions' bases. This is my own way of following RP, and in my view, over-organising battles with things in the order of 10 minute/3 death rules isn't a good way to do it.

i for one never understood how you people call yourself a clan of good or evil , but then you dock where ever you choose...

the problem is with your RP !

stay true to the faction(s) you represent and you wont have this problem of everyone docking at same base killing and respawing.

i know from experience , when i was Eclipse -- having good guys docked at nomad bases to just kill me... this was about the stupidest thing ---

now for another part of your post , someone waiting 10 min. to play again ... i dont think this will work , people want to fight not sit and wait !

and about the 3 kill rule...that would not be good for the void , as above .. people just want to fight ... and i see headaches for admins , when you tell someone they cant be in a system due to them being killed 3 times , talk about player drop .. thatll drop players for sure !

i think both sides here to need hold true to there rp .. meet somewhere in a system(dont dock there) and fight it out ...last side standing there is winner... maybe 3, 4 or 5 rounds like that and you have claimed that system ..

****good and evil meet at the prisons in alex , noone docks there .. they say "go" and start to fight ... good guys are left standing after round 1 ... everyone meets there again , round 2 -- round 3 and so on....after say 5 rounds... bad guys won 3 rounds good guys won 2 rounds ...bad guys owns the system...

just an idea....

I understand your point of view Kumori. Since it is your RP to shoot anyone and just to fight I suppose it would not do you any good to do these rules. But, for some clans and people that fight with different Rps it might make a difference. To you, whose RP it is not important who wins it is pointless yes. But, for clans who fight each other and go into a clan war, it would. Because in those casas people care who wins or not.
I do agree with Sythe in the round thing and following your RP. It's another version of a set of rules to be followed where you find the winner. I posted so people could give their ideas as well. Sythe's idea is very good and serves the same purpose. And, it's easy to do if people agree to do it.
As for the 10 minute rule not working, other servers do it :D that's where I saw it and it works but, it is a server rule and everyone is obliged to do it from the start. It may not work here.
Anyway, my idea is to get people to think about better and more efficient ways to fight. Next time the IAf makes a move I will make it clear what the rules of the fight are. Who wants to participate will and if no one agrees then, we don't do it.

so one night not to long ago i claimed alexandria and babylonia by myself -- Sytheandria and Sythelonia -- anyone that was on then will tell ya i killed everyone in them systems...they where my systems that night !!!

and really anyone can make a map ...

what needs to implememnted here is the tags on the systems !

do you remember when sparta was tag XEF ? (i think that what it was)

this is a nice feature .. and should be done again , and kept up to date !

clans fight for an area and have there name added to it when they won the system ...

as of now people just flying about not really knowing or caring who owns a system....

That's the gist of the next point I was going to make. The fact that there's this difference of viewpoint between those who go in for the whole territory control thing and those who just want a good scrap highlights the issue that to hold a battle with these rules you'd have to do it event-style, where anyone who doesn't agree to the rules and wants to jump in (a passing rogue for example) would have to be excluded. To me, a rogue having to walk away from a battle sounds like a compromise of RP. Obviously there would be the possibility of similar situations not involving rogues, but you get the idea.

The only alternative idea I can think of is getting someone to sit in and keep score of the number of deaths that occur on each side and do it like a death match. First team to 20/team with most points after ten minutes wins, etc etc.
In such a scenario, it's harder for passing bastar- errr... 'hostile entities' to corrupt the result, since only kills by the opposing side would be counted, or something.

It's still flawed, I know, but I just thought I'd throw it in to make a change from all my naysaying.

If a "hostile entity" :) wanted to join a fight between clans he could of course. Nothing would change except the clans would have to kill that enemy too. Winning an area or a specific goal would count for the clans involved. The fight would still be opened to the freelancer's and the "clanless" and it would not change the objective or the way to do it.

You must be careful not to engineer fights though. Engineered fights are not the same.

They would not be engineered. There would only be rules for the fight. Perhaps it would just be a question of where you dock or how many people participate or if it is a clan vs clan thing should other clans participate or not.

Okay, phrasing it as one hostile entity was a bad way of getting my point across. What I mean is that when there's a battle going on, others have a habit of drifting over. If you're trying to have one of these very organised battles and end up with about 5+ people coming over who refuse to follow any rules about sitting out after they're killed then you're going to have a problem.

Either they go away (RP is compromised) or they stay and sod everything up. (Assuming they maintain their refusal to follow the rules)
