New factions & reputations

Post by KoRleone »

Hi,

just wanted to know something about the above subject mentioned if it's not too much of a spoiler alert...

I thought that factions like, Nomad, Hel-1, Pirates and Fugitives dont have allies and are enemy to all... and maybe I can say this only for Nomads nad Hel-1, but I can see relationship with Fugitives and Outcasts, also I think there is relationship between Pirates and Corsairs (makes sense if you put logic into it)

Does someone know anything more about mentioned factions because I can confirm (by doing numerous missions) that when I kill a lot of Fugitives I'm also getting bad with Outcasts  #-o

P.S.: I just saw that for Fugitives and Pirates states that they are enemy with everyone else... and I don't know what it means exactly  :-?

Greets,

Although they are enemies to everyone, they are still very unlawful, so killing them improves your rankings with most navies and police, thus loosing you rep with other unlawful factions. Simples.

@ Korleone: a handful of the infocards have the wrong info listed under the Allies and Enemies tag. That'll be fixed in v9. Yep, you're right: neither the Pirates nor the Fugitives are really enemies to all, as for the most important example, they aren't enemies to each other.
By the way, Hel-1 is a system, you're thinking of Hel as the faction :P

@ Verminard: that's not how it works. Every faction has a set of relationships defined with other factions, and those determine how much your rep with said faction will increase or decrease when you shoot down an npc belonging to any other faction. So, when you shoot down an npc, the game subtracts a fixed amount of rep from the faction that it belonged to, and checks through the other factions to see if there's any need to modify their reps too. As such, there's nothing as automatic as "killing unlawful ships necessarily gains you rep with lawful factions", and everything is set by hand.

This is why, for instance, killing Hel ships won't get you rep with every other faction. (That could be exploited to get friendly with everyone else anyway.) It's also why changes aren't necessarily two-way: for instance, you could gain rep with faction A by killing faction B ships, but not gain any rep with faction B by killing faction A ships. There are some of those present in v8 right now.
So, the best course of action for a player to determine the consequences of killing an NPC is to check the faction infocards... which have errors now. Ouch. Anyway, some logic is also a good idea, because some factions might not be allied with some others but still care if you destroy the others' ships. A good example would be the Zoners and the GMG.

Thanks a lot for your explanations. They were quite helpful and my main confusion was created by the wrong listed infos. I'm glad this will be corrected with the upcoming V9 mod.  ;)

Also I think it's sometimes better for some new faction (like Hel for example) to left infos empty (allies and enemies unknown) then to be listed incorrectly as it makes it more difficult for new users to get along with new stuff not seen in SP, and also some experienced players would like to check how their rep changes when they kill those npc's and then maybe pass their knowledge to others.   :D

killing navy is always good for the local pirates even they are no allies
or killing pirates must make the traders happy :)
this is the way we must keep to deal with reputations.
Killing nomads must be the only exception or what if you kill, lets say 1000 Hel ships makes you all neutral?
