Alexandria the Demilitarized Zone

Post by MajestikOne »

Well dogs, what do you think about the approach to kill off piracy and greatly reduce our active war zone field? Looks like we shall have to move operations to the surrounding systems. It seems the never-ending complaints from trade organizations have eventually taken their toll, what are your thoughts about attempting to restrict access to New London in relation to our RP role? I will elaborate further when I can gain contact with you.

Regards

Lloyd

If its gonna be like that maybe npc numbers in New London,New Tokyo and New Berlin shoud be reduced because its imposible to pvp with 2-3 battleship groups around.

well, I really don't know if that was a good Idea, but we'll see. I'd give it a try.
If it's bad for the server at the end you might think about taking it back....we'll see :)

(btw, I don't have problems with pvp among battleships^^)

As far as I'm concerned, Alexandria will just be like a nature reserve. You can sit and awe at the breathtaking scenery, yet you won't be able to anything but smile. Players are reminded this is a shooting game ;o What is happening?

Pirates will have to rethink their strategies but they are most certainly not taken away. In fact, it should be easier to intercept traders at the capital system side of the major gates. If your pirate clan is as well-organized as it should/could/used to be, you could station a group of three with one at each location and thus pinch off the routes more effectively that trying to cover the three gates in Alex.

Also, there are more routes than that one. I'm not going to spill them all... the freelancers know where they are. They are still vulnerable to piracy.

In addition, there are critical nexus systems such as Sparta, Omicron Theta, Omicron Gamma and Nomad 1 where everyone goes. There's nothing to say your "victim" has to be a lumbering AT. In fact it's a bit more fun to tax and/or take out a fighter unawares than a trader. With the limit still at 200K there's no additional profit in an AT over any other kind of ship. Besides, your profit isn't from "taxing" with the small amounts allowed. There are other ways to turn a profit.

In my most humble opinion this change does not "shaft" pirates, but it does force them to actually think and strategize. Much in the same way as traders have to.

Almost makes me want to reorganize the Brotherhood again. I see [X]EF as the core pirate fleet now and you can bet this isn't going to deter their activities. I might suggest negotiations with pirate clan leaders to consider a new order of piracy. It's time is overdue. Follow [X]EF's lead as to "how to be a pirate" and put the teeth back in the RP. Pirates couls be the terror of the Void again if they want it to be. It's up to you.

WW, as many others here on the Void, I have always had large amounts of respect for you and your wisdom.  You are a wise player and you are an asset to the Void community.

In your quote above you have named off more areas in which players can strategizes their RP.  The fact of the matter is though (I assume) that Alex became a no pvp zone mainly because of all the moaning.  So what's going to happen when a trader spends a full day trading because he wants that prized ship they are dying to fly and everytime they try going to Delta or Unk 2 or whereever, they are gunned down by pirates and rogues?  Then the moaning will start all over again.  "I can't enjoy the game because I keep getting attacked everytime I try and buy/setup my new fighter".

Alex was the system that everyone who wanted to pvp could congregate like a church service and have massive pvps.  The whole idea to a "new server" and "donations" was to BUY a NEW SERVER with LESS LAG in the MASSIVE PVPs.  At least this is what I was lead to believe.  In any given day with 60+ players online, at least 25-30 of them sit in Alex thriving off the good pvps.  Now those pvp loving players will crowd around Saint's Rock, and Saint's Rock will no longer be the "Saint's Rock" but the "PvP Rock"  :(  :(

Yeah, this decision really got me scratching my head.

This was done before and almost everyone agreed it was a bad idea, and that it took too much away from the game.

Now, I don´t know the reason behind this decision (since none was really given, at least that I realised), but I´m assuming it is because of situations like those with DTA and ban-baiters and other complains we had on forum lately.
I don´t know, I realize killing off PvP in Alex is an easy shortcut and will make life easier on the admins for a little whille (we all know it won´t take long for the people to find another reason to complain about), but overall it´s just kinda ruining the game for the rest of us.
Do you really need to punisg the entire server just because some players have nothing better to do than to moan about their virtual mishaps?

Of course, maybe this is just a tempory thing to deal with lag until we get a more powerfull server, and if that´s the reason, then I can agree with it, but since nothing was explained, I really don´t know what to thing, except that I hope the Admins reconsider this (imo, very bad) decision, or at least try to discuss it a bit with the community, so we can better understand what´s going on.

Geez...I disapear and go have a good time at the Isle of Wight festival and all hell breaks loose on the server. Pardon my ignorance, but am I to assume that Alexandria has now become like NY?  Hmmm....I take WW words of wisdom well. The Pirates will have to rethink their strategy. Saying that, I am taken by Ents forthright rage at a decent PvP area being taken "offline" as it were.

I want it noted that as the Pres of AoF I am not in support of this idea. That doesnt mean I wont use it to my advantage or that I wont abide by it. So far we at AoF have not suffered dreadfully from the depredations of many of the Pirate fraternity.  We take our chances as should all the other traders and not get all whingy about being attacked by pirates and such. I do feel however that my secret "backdoor" trading routes are about to be well and truely "roggered" due to the spread of piracy to the otherwise ignored sytems.  This may have been the thinking behind it. Force the Pirates to go hunting. Believe me I have tried it and it is difficult.

Now that the Pirates have been poked with a stick I fear that this whole thing is about to backfire on the whingers - the once quiet trade routes will once more become feeding grounds for the merciless sharks. The less rich, but regular routes will now become killing fields for the enraged pirate clans...... :-?
