New Server Ordered & Paid for

Well can you believe it !!

Today we ordered the server and a kind person paid the invoice!

I have happily removed the sponsorship request block from the home page as well

More news to follow however, initial install of the server is for this Saturday. Were having our existing HDD in the new server for a couple of days to make sure the transfer of the existing files goes smoothly.

On Saturday I will need to install FL and the files and transfer the data before we go live. We are keeping the existing IP so thats good.

So there you have it, nearly done now.

Thanks to all of you who have contributed to the new server. When I have some more concrete news I'll post it.

What kinda specs has the server got?

The basic specs are:

Xeon 3.0GHz Dual Core Processor
2 G Ram
Dual HDD in RAID 1 Configuration
Broadband connection to the 'Net

Needless to say this is a quantum leap above our current server specs. Ping should be dramatically reduced and lag should diminish to almost nothing under usual circumstances. And it's ours. If we decide we need to upgrade we do it with no more cost than the parts and that shouldn't effect the rent of the rack space.

The server will be hosted in Germany. That's pretty central to our users.

What comes next?  That's classified. If we told you we'd have to shoot you.  ;)
