Sharing DSL for a Couple of Days

Hey Voidians, I was curious if any of you could help.  My friend is staying here at my house for a couple of days.
He plays FL like I do.  We have both our PC's plugged into a hub.  Using one DSL connection.
Sometimes he can not see my System chat messges in the game, then at times it flip flops and I can not see his or anyone elses
I you green me I can see it.  Does someone have an explanation for this....or possible solution.

If it's a switch/router with 4 ports or more:

Plug the computers into the corresponding ports(if it has a built-in hardware firewall, plug them into the ports 1 and 2, as these are firewalled by default, and 3-4 are bridged).

Make sure you either set up static IP addresses or enable the DHCP server.

Most router's that have DHCP, should be able to direct the right traffic to the right computer, but not all can.

The issue is most likely caused by an IP adress collision, so the Void server is unable to decide what is going on when two almost identical connections appear.

It could also just be a bug in the Freelancer software.
