crashes before can play
when i try to use the void server and i launch it, the screen for the void comes up for a couple seconds and then it goes back to the desktop. i dont know what to do. my guess is the graphics card, but i could be wrong
system: dell DM051
cpu speed: 2.80GHz
1022mb ram
graphics card: ati radeon 9250
display: 1024x768 32 bit
so, any ideas?

Re: crashes before can play
That normally hapens wen the player dont have the Void Mod activated
so just to confirm:
do you have Freelancer Mod Manager?
if yes have you downloaded the Void Mod and successfully activated it?

Re: crashes before can play
yeah, its activated and everything. no other mods are activated. but when the disc is already in the comp. and i try to play it, it only partially loads and then goes to the desktop. i have to use the autoplay feature for it to load so i can use it. i dont know, im just gonna tell you everything that might be useful.

Re: crashes before can play
You should also delete/move/rename the settings folder, this often causes crashes. Settings from the wrong mod or stock WILL crash you. It's also where the SP saves are kept. Look for it here:
Code: Select all

Re: crashes before can play
CTD on loading suggests a problem install for the Freelancer game.
I suggest you deactivate the mod, then re-install Freelancer, then it should be ok.

Re: crashes before can play
is an mpid file just all the files involved with the game?
aw crap, now i was deactivating the mod so i could reactivate it and try it again, then it said that it was moving (the mod im assuming) from the folder 'orginalsavedgames' to singleplayer while i was deactivating it. when i tried to reactivate it, it said:
Error: FLMM has determined that 'The Void: 2112v4 Client' won't properly activate.
This was only the test run, so no files were changed (besides being decompressed)
Look in the log for more details.
in the log it says:
Error: FLMM has determined that 'The Void: 2112v4 Client' won't properly activate.
Error: file 'C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Freelancer\EXE\freelancer.ini' doesn't exist
oh, and to frobozz, thats exactly where the saved games went, i just checked, but i didnt tell it to do that. it just did it on its own. and i cant find the 'orignalsavedgames' folder. maybe it got deleted?

The mpid is short for 'MultiPlayer Account ID# not a file.
You can see (and print) this account number using a tool in your FL Start Menu, named "Examine My Account ID" located here:
Do this before uninstalling FL or else you lose all your server ships on every server!!!
...
This is why *I* no longer use FLMM if I can avoid it. I have multiple program folders of FL and I rename them to switch from one mod to another! (Plus rename the settings folders)
When you are activating & de-activating mods it's important to DO NOTHING ELSE WHILE FLMM IS WORKING. Don't switch to a browser window and start surfing you WILL have a corrupt mod. Files get lost. Don't get changed. Get left behind. You name it.
I've played more mods than 10 normal FL players plus I made my own server-side mods for my stock server I've seen this all the time.
1. Record your FLID number
2. Uninstall FL
3. Clean install of FL
4. Install SDK 1.3 or quickfix if you don't have that. Get it here:
http://lancersreactor.com/wiki/index.ph ... _Downloads
5. Optional: Zip a copy of the whole FL program folder, for in case you get corrupt files.
6. Optional: The .flmod files are really .zip files, you can re-name them and test them for errors with winzip.
7. activate the mod.

Yes, indeed, FLMM is supposed to automatically move your setting/save games when you activate and de-activate mods. Supposed to. NOT always happens that way... ~X(Error: FLMM has determined that 'The Void: 2112v4 Client' won't properly activate.

Re: crashes before can play
I am having a similar problem and didn't see the point in adding another thread...
Recently when trying to start FL my comp freezes at various points of start up. The only thing that fixes it is a reboot.. Even after rbooting it has an 80% chance of doing it all over again. Then, if I am lucky enough to get on the server it seems that I have a good 20 min at most before it freezes again.
I have never had any problems with this game and at a loss as to what could be wrong. The only thing different from now and last month when it worked without any problems is a new mouse and residence. Same provider with the same connection. All other programs and internet activity is good. Please if anybody has any ideas I'll be listening.
In the meen time I'll follow the addvice above. Just one question, after re-install what do I do with the MPID?
Thank you for the help in advance.

Re: crashes before can play
First time you play MP after a new installation you will see a dialog box that offers the opportunity to input your old ID#
If you can start Void mod but then experience crashes, make sure you open 'Options' from the main menu (NOT in game) then goto audio options and disable 'USE 3D SOUND'
I can't wait til TLR is back they have a whole forum of troubleshooting help.
