ok when i click, i doesnt work because it says the link cannot be saved.  Now i remeber there being another way to do that by changing the target of the shortcut icon of FL or sumting but forget the exact way to do it.

hmm well that didnt help much.  I remeber a way to get a LAN connection for a server by clicking on the Freelancer shortcut on my desktop and modifying the target of the shortcut by adding an IP to the target.  I don't exactly remeber the character used in the parameters to signify that you are adding a certain IP address for the shortcut to point to.
