Problem

Post by tmrobotix »

Hey all!
I got a screen related problem
This screenshot shows everything you need to know:
http://img134.imageshack.us/my.php?image=screen1ja2.png

I get very annoyed by this thing, everything seems way to big!

Specs of my pc:
AMD 6000+ (Dual core two 3 ghz cpu)
2,75 GB RAM
Vid card: Nvidia GeForce 6150 SE
Latest drivers.

Well seems to me it has to do with my 19 inch screen.
So I use an Acer AL1916W my current resolution with FL is:
1280*960*16
I tried every resolution all get the 'everything is to big'.

Another problem also graphics, I look very laggy with FL.
I think I got a extremely low FPS with FL.

The weird thing is, my pc works perfect with WoW! (World of Warcraft)
Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance!

Hi, if I were you, I would try the following. Maybe you did it already or know it already or even try it already but maybe not:
1,  check if your drivers are the latest one
2,  check if your sdk file has been installed
then
3,  you could have a look at the fonts directory files and play with their value (don´t forget to make a backup before playing with this value!!!) -
In the fonts.ini file, I guess if your value for fixed height would be smaller, it could help.

These are the value in my fonts.ini file

[TrueType]
nickname = ItemName
font = Agency FB
fixed_height = 0.035000

Pls. keep in consideration that I did not try it.

1: 16x9 or 16x10 resolutions are NOT supported by freelancer, this may be causing your problem. Try setting the screen to 1024x768 and then using your video drivers to "squash" the image into a 4x3 box on the screen itself

2:  If you have recently installed or uninstalled another game by Microsoft Game Studios (Halo in particular) then chances are the required windows fonts were overwritten/removed. Open your freelancer cd, locate the directory called "fonts" and install those fonts into windows/fonts. You may have to delete the existing font files to do this.

3: 16 bits per pixel will work but 32 bits per pixel is recommended. Modern video cards (anything newer than a tnt2) are designed to run at 32bits per pixel, they only support 16 bpp as a legacy option to allow old games to run and they do not run in 16 bpp correctly or efficiently.

4: Your video card while sporting high numbers (6150) is actually a very low end budget card. If at all possible replace it with either a better one from the 6000 range (6600gt is a good one and very cheap now) or revert to an older generation for example a 5800 or 5900, possibly a geforce 4 ti 4200 or 4600 or 4800...avoid ANY nvidia card with an MX or SE designation. Freelancer will run acceptably on a card as old as a geforce 256 and even a tnt 2. The 6150 SE is LESS powerful than a plain old geforce 3 and even some on board video adapters which would explain your apparent graphics lag. If this is beyond your budget or you don't have an old card available to you try running the game at 800x600 and reducing the detail level sliders. Be advised that WOW requires a direct x 9.0c capable video accellerator which means you will need at least the 6600GT if you want to avoid swapping cards for the sake of one game.

Best of luck
