yea, I got Vista Ultimate too, I tried Freelancer, Rise of Nations: Rise of Legends and Silent Hunter 4, everything works except Freelancer online and Silent Hunter 4 XD

altough I don't want to mess with AntiVirus yet......for FL online, I will now try Rise of Nations online.......

Ive Run vista for ages and never had a problem with freelancer, just disable the UAC(user account control) on your user account.

and remember GOOGLE is your best friend ;) as for you cant play freelancer online then this maybe norton antivirus causing a problem, uninstall norton and try the free avg antvirus then you can play online with freelancer.

this is what works for me anyway so it may help you.

I personally can't stand Vista, it looks nice, but thats as far as it goes for me.

As soon as I got my Dell XPS 720 I obliterated Vista and slapped XP on it, which was a pain, as I needed to slipstream the nvidia raid drivers onto the XP CD first before I could even install XP

But now all is well :)

You dont need to mess around with anti viruses to get FL to work online; it is a cure, but if you dont want to, then there is another way.

Vista doesnt like it when you play FL on  a modded server, a vanilla one runs just fine. Therefore i figured that its down to FLMM. Thats why i manually activate mods rather than using FLMM, it works.

I got Vista too.  Most games that i have got work fine on it.

Freelancer, Call Of Duty 4, Battlefield 1942, Battlefield 2142, Battlefield 2, Crysis, Halo, Command And Conquer, etc.

But you will need to run some one them as Administrator for them to work or the game will crash when it goes online.

Good luck,

HH.

eh what he said about flmm is correct it doesnt let flmm extract all the files....

easy run flmm as admin = fix

run fl as admin = fix

even tho you are loged in as admin vista doesnt use admin permission for programs auto

right click program shortcut enable compatiblity for xpsp2 then click on that box that says run this program as administrator... that way flmm will work freelancer will also work unless you have some full on mensa antivirus... altho you can also get round that buy stoping the antivirus program from checking anything that comes from the freelancer folder.

For some odd reason I was never able to get FL to work on Vista.  I also refuse to disable my McAfee Virus Protection in favor of some *cough* freeware program.

However, I've been running Doom3, Rainbow Six Vegas, and Call of Duty 4 online on Vista with no problems whatsoever. I think what Recoil said about Vista not liking the modded server is correct.

Get rid of Norton get rid of McAfee, they both suck, and problems are all solved.

Try AVG, Avast or Eset for your protection software. They work and have small footprints

Chuckle. Yeah, MacAffee's not going anywhere.... no matter how much you might think it sucks, FREEWARE ALWAYS SUCKS.

nod32 ftw macaffees detection rate isnt as good as theirs over time

i think nod32 has had best detection rates for years.. correct me if im wrong ofc

also has very low system impact and ofc norton is just the same as having a virus... nothing works system does strange things and computer is slow ..
