Freelancer on your mobile phone? Almost...

Post by Kosmiker »

That's right, a few weeks ago I found this game for mobile phones that support Java (J2ME) and I was stunned!

The name is Galaxy On Fire and works on all java enable mobile phones with a resolution of 240x320. Despite the fact that we're talking about mobile phones (and their limited hardware) this game already provides lots of stuff, like 3D graphics, possibility of buying different ships, lots of places to visit and lots of guns and other equipment to buy and sell. Doesn't that sound familiar? Now add the fact that you can also pick different missions and trade a bunch of stuff and we're almost with a "Freelancer" clone in our mobiles!

I'll leave here some screenshots i took from some websites (yeah, i still don't know how to screenshot my own game lol).

Send me a PM if you want a "demo" *cough *cough of the game...  :D

looks a nice game friend thank you for bringing it to our attention. freelancer was not the first game of its type and is based on older space trade games i.e. Tachyon, Hardwar, and Elite (the daddy of space trading games) the concept of non linear space trading exploration games began in the 1980's with Elite and grew from there ! :-) freelancer is all of them rolled into one fine fine game the only problem i have with Fl is the scale of planets etc ? they are way too small and the fact that you have to dock with the planet docking ring to access the planet, where as in Elite you could fly to a planet and fly into the atmosphere :-) you could even explore the planet flying over mountain ranges ! plus each planet had about 9 different cities to land at with a unique look of its own not like Fl where some of the bases etc look the same ?? Elite was made along time ago but in terms of the universes, planets, and all round freedom Elite and its sequels Frontier etc were better. It would be great to see a sequel to Fl that incorporates planets that can be explored with individual cities etc that look different to one another, once this is achieved Fl can call itself the greatest game of its type but until then Fl is just a great game :-)
