there is no way any goverment would try and save EVERYONE
the first peoples to be saved will obviously be millitairy personel
since the goverment will need then to protect the survivors
the 2nd the will be saved will be politians who have power like bush his family or other with a lot of money
the 3rd will be of course the riches them who have millions to give just to save their own lives
the 4th will be the chosen ones
who are they?
they will be mostly doctors scientist
people that will be the the teachers of the next generations
they will have the task to send down to the futur generation our knowlege
so that we dont have to stay like we were when we were cavemans
for all those who have not been chosen to survive by the goverment

In the sun fusion  processes change energy from one form to another and thus radiating the heat and sunrays( E=mc2 for u who understand that will probably get the rest) that  that the green cells use as energy to start photosythesis, which is needed for plants to grow and with no plants, no food, this might even change so that we cant grow anything even before the sun eventually grows so big it swollows the earth. Hydrogen is the most common substance in all of the universe and was the first to be created after the big bang ( scientists belive this happened 2 minuter after the big bang when it had cooled enough for atoms to exist) well back to the subject, Hydrogen is changed into heavier substances up to iron inside the sun While the sun is "alive "it cant get warm enough for heavier substances and thus the fusion processess end:

There are heavier substances but they are formed when a sun dies. The radation pressure fades cause the fusion process cant happen because iron cores are to big. ANd when the radiation pressure fades the sun gives in to gravity and gets pulled tightly together, in most cases this causes a dense, neutron star whre the gravity is so big electrons get pulled inte the protons thus creating a neutron. In this process the innnermost core gets so warm it creates the heavier atoms such as Uranium, Gold, silver etc. In somre cases, the sun is so big that when it is pulled back by gravity it starts spinnning so fast it usddenly becomes instable and throws out matter back in the universe in an explosion like scenario, this is called a nova, when the star is bigger it can cause a supernova, to understand how much energy that is relased there is this explanasion, A gamma ray from a supernova emits more energy than the rest of the universe altogether for a short second it even creates a new element particle, the neutrinno., this is alot of energy... If the star is even bigger.. then gravity is so strong it doesnt even let the light get out.. it gets heavier and heavier , this is called a black hole,

For the last 4 years of my life a X-Friend kept saying the world will end. The date for it to he said was (from reacent to oldest) August 22 2007, September 1 2006, October 11 2005, November 25 2004 (My Birthday  :(

well after WW2 mostly form 1950 and 1975

nukind them in deserts to see how effective they are and putting people
at the sites of those bomb and see what reaction they have

Unfortunately, or fortunately, nothing can be foretold to the exactness of some posts here. Scientific facts mixed with beliefs are an interesting and everyday combination that can provide some irrational fears for many people. From the beginning of our existence, we're contemplating the possible end of it, its in our nature. One of the reasons for ''the end of the world'' beliefs lies in the fact that we're a part of a much greater dynamic which we will never be able to fully comprehend - yet we try to, with what seems to be infinite possibilities, and we try to set some end points even if it makes us scared because in the end, nothing scares us more than not knowing (speaking for the general/average in population).  
And whatever someone thinks of mayans, a 10 yr old child nowadays has more knowledge about the world it lives in than most of the mayans then. One of somewhat often beliefs is also that ''ancient'' ppl were wiser in some way than us, they sure would be if some of them lived until now, but ancient in this case only means that they and their culture have their place in the far past.
Try to imagine people 2000 yrs from now watching those vids, what would their reaction be seeing those materials from an ''ancient'' time  :)  
I'll say it again, it is facts and it is beliefs that are combined here, and although they make for some very nice discussions, i would leave it at that  :)
