I see the server but can't connect

Hey there,

I'm a total newbie to online Freelancing, and as far as I've read so far the problems I have are fairly common...

I'm running Freelancer on Vista Home Premium (I know, it sucks, big time) on a clean boot, that is, I use msconfig to disable all non-critical services and programs. With the exception of running the setup on compatibility mode, I did almost the same as was detailed on the installation guide for Vista users. I successfully downloaded, installed and activated both FLMM and the Void module.

Then I get nearly the same Tigre got:

Actually, I can see the players and ping for a short while, but after trying to connect -unsuccessfully- a couple of times, I hit the 'refresh' button and then I experience the same that happened to Tigre.

Now, I was able to log in and play for about 2 hours earlier today - say, around 5/6 AM of my timezone, which is -3 -, but I can't log in now. No matter what I do. (A shame... I was SO loving the place... ) I was about to PM Strail right away, seeing that a lot of people have these issues too.

Tried a tracert and got this:



The count would keep going on and on with only timeouts being returned.

EDIT: Also tried -without any luck- uninstalling and reinstalling, executing everything on compatibility mode.

EDIT 2: I saw that Tigre got his problem fixed by removing his router, and I did likewise. To no avail.

Can't connect to any Server (Vista)
Norton or Kaspersky aren't allowed to be on your PC, deactivating them don't do it!, if you have Avast! you have to deinstall the NetworkShield.
You should eventual turn off IPv6 and give a static LAN IP Addresse in the IPv4.

FLMM under Vista
FLMM may don't work right under Vista system, just right-click on the shortcut or FLMM.exe -> Properties, tick on "Execute as Admin" and set the compability mode to Win XP or Win 2000.

Any help? I run XP so I'm looking for Vista people to jump in.

Nope I'm already running FLMM and the Freelancer executable with admin privileges. (I've also deactivated UAC.)

I can now continuously see ping and players on all servers, but still can't connect to any.

EDIT: Deactivating IPv6 and giving IPv4 a static address didn't help, either.

Same issues that I had, I was using avast so after uninstalling the NetworkShield I could connect.
Try uninstalling your anti virus then trying to connect?

What kind of anti-virus program are you using? If it is Avast, Norton or Kasperzki, you are better of uninstalling them fro your computer. They always cause issues. Try using AVG. There's a good free edition, and it doesn't take much memory to run and even to do a complete scan. It also doesn't cause problems like these.

I'm using McAfee. Never had any issues with that... so far. I'll try killing the ActiveScan process and see what happens.

I'm playing FL from a XP computer until I get VMWare.

I'm afraid I can't just uninstall my antivirus because it's an integrated security suite. I uninstall that and bam, I'd as much go around screaming out loud my IP to any hacker out there
