Clan clean up and Discussion

Post by Strail »

shonensan makes an interesting point about clans :

If we have in forums a list of 46 clans but only 6, maybe less, are really active in game how do you think adding other clans will improve things here? New players look at the forum and say "let me see...yes i want to join Saints (example), but where the hell are Saints?"

It is all confusing, we don't have a solid base of roleplay where to start build something bigger. We should concentrate in doing the basics of roleplay. And admins should stop letting any players start his own clan. Clans are roleplay, clans are important, clans must have influence, clans can't be leaded by anyone.

I know we have freedom in this server but clans are another question, clans are a serious thing in terms of gameplay.

I thought it would be a good idea to open this out and see if we can get some agreement on how "server clans" should be handled. It does seem that we have a few people starting clans every few months and i'm not against people starting clans. Im wondering if there should be a two tier system of clans or not or how we should see a difference between one clan and another. One things for sure, I dont want to prohibit people making clans etc. However, there is a difference between clans who are organised and run by the leader and those who clearly dont have any structure.

I would also like to open this upto Guilds as well as clans, I use Guilds in the context of primarily not fighting but trading/commerce.

If we are to change what we have then we need to be specific in the minimum requirements, vague stuff doesnt work. Maybe we can get a more upto date process of what being a "server clan" entails and what the agreed minimum standards should be. Until there met, the clan would be just a tagged clan on the server.

So in light of the comment, I think its about time we do look at clans again and re-design the rules etc for the future.

Please post your ideas or experiences that have worked.

Off the top of my head.

Clans should actually have their own website or forum board for one. If a clan is serious they will have their own well formed site full of information and interactivity. That shows some degree of dedication by the clan leader as it takes time to set all this up. I don't mean the invision free board with 2 registered user's. I personally like browsing and posting on properly constructed clan sites.

100 hours was fine with us. but after the 100 hours keep an eye on the clan to see if they are actually active. A trial of 2 weeks or something?

5 members great idea. keep it that way please

Role play: A clan should pick a role. Not just be a loose association of friends flying around with a tag.

One thing I know does work is monthly clan rolecalls. The clan leader has to post on an admin started thread stating that his clan is still active. Shakes the leaders up a bit that one does, keeps his/her members active.
Miss two months you can safely say the clan is dead.

I think Shonen makes a very valid point there. If you scroll down the clan list on the forum page, there are at least 20-30 clans, from which there are maybe 5 or 6 really active. First thing is deleting the clan sections that are no longer used. This will make it more clear for new guys browsing the site.

Furtermore, I think - with the exclusion of AoF - that clans ARE ALL ABOUT RP. What could else be the reason to start a clan? Indeed Shonen, if anybody would ever start a clan, he first of all should really know the very concept of RP and work out the RP of the clan he wants to start in detail. It should all be made a bit more difficult. That would ensure for starters to really put an effort in, not just get 5 tagged ppl online and request a forum section.

When Apoc and I started HKD, we first made sure we had a pretty cool site with lots of info on it. We customized it our self and put over 250 hours in doing that. Next to that, we had a forum which had a link on the site, on which we also put a lot of work in. It was only after that, when we started recruiting for our clan. Making sure we were in game a lot ourselfs, to get our tags noticed. Ofcourse HKD didn't survive for very long, but of all things, this was not due to lack of preparation.
Anyway my point is that this is the way it should be done. People should really be willing to put a lot of effort and time in creating a clan, and do the necessary prep work before they even start recruiting and ringing bells.

Also, I would think should be some sort of poll, run by the admins, A-team and Guards. Their votes should determine the right to exist for any new clan. So a new clan would have to get the approval of the Server Staff.

What's more: I agree with you about getting the basics of Role Play sorted first. Although I must say that RP has been improving the last couple of weeks. And with clans like the RAF around now, I think it will only improve more.

And that will be an excellent idea to keep things active I think.

For a new Freelancer on this server i can say that it realy confused me a bit too that there where that much clans on the Forumsite. That would be the most important thing what i think you could make better in this question. So better means for me that u coud for example sort out clans without posts in her seciton on the forum for x days. They could be moved in a nother section or removed i don't know... for that i'm to new. But that would make it way easier to chose a clan, and also to get informations about the most active clans actually for everybody,  because it wouldn't be that much.

Another thing to get sorted out confusion could be to make Sections for the different RP-directions of the clans. So maybee onley "Good"-boy's and "Bad"-boy's or even more specific...

Before make it  more difficult to start a clan i would wait for the results of changings like i discribed above. The actual ruels to make a clan i think are good.

On a side note: I have no issues with the complete deletion of all HKD related threads/sections. That would clean it up somewhat.

Don't delete [-SWAT-] mate.  I have still not decided what i am for doing, i have been talking with NRaider and we both think that it would be a good idea to re-open [-SWAT-] again.  So please don't delete SWAT untill we have made our decision about what we are doing about it.

ok first maverick you are wrong on one thing not all clans are about rp. i was kba for 3 years that clan is one of the oldest on this server along with bbb and shadows, saints but they are all but gone. i was a red dot killer i dont pvp much. our rp was to kill criminal npc. to many players think rp means you have to be fighting with anouther player or its not rp.

i dont want to burst any bubbles here but this is not a rp server, it is an open server, an clans and players can rp if they like.  i for one am no longer in a clan and my main char eagleone is not a rp char, it is for exployering and red dott kiling.  tbh i hate it when someone tries to force me to rp with my non role play char. if i want to rp i use my stu trader, which is for trader roleplay and my eagleone warbird for pvp.

yes strail there does need to be a clean up of the clans i can go thru and count half dozen or more off top my head that are dead and gone. they need removed from forums and their stories removed from the news page they create cluter and confusion.

as far as clan bases it was to replace the clan system that most of you dont remember because it was before your time.
i do think we need to have tuffer requirment to be a clan and to have a base should be something that only long term clans who have proven the test of time should be available to obtain.

ie. clans = 5 active members all with at least 100 hour apeice playing time. like was said a good web site and forums, clan logo and tags. i think it would be hard for the voids and admin to vote on them because to be honest our staff does not play enough to see a new clan in action. so the vote should come from the other active clan leaders. they will have a good ideal if that clan is playing, if they are trouble or here to add to the community in a positive way.

clan bases= clan should have been here for at least 6 months, with over 900 hours of play time, 5 active members. i also think all clans should have to pay for their base. that number can be decided by the a-team. if it were up to me i would have 3 different options for clan bases small, med and large. and the prices would go with it. like lets say 1 billion, 2 billion and 3 billion. make having a bases a great thing to accomplish. a large clan bases would say alot about your clan and its time and power and money on the server. you could even make it were to get a larger bases they would need more time on game more members along with the money. let say to a purchases the large base you would need 3 billion credits, 10 members and over 2000 hour time between all members, along with at least 6 months on server. then the bases would let new players know this is an older and active clan that plays here and is not going any were.

i cant even keep up with all the new tags and clan on here and i play everyday. players come on slap a tag on their ship and start shooting at everyone, when asked why they say we are such and such clan we do this. and it is only their first day on the server. which remindes me before a clan can be official it also should have a mission statement or somthing along those lines letting the entire community know who and what they are, so we can be aware of their role play. this would cut down on the number of players being pissed off because some noob just attacked them with no warning, with some tag no one has ever seen before.

i also think we can steal an ideal from anouther server i have heard of they have a little tag that lets everyone know if they a role play char or not. nothing sucks more than being on a mission with 6 nomad valkeries stripping your shield and along comes some bone head and kills you because it was easy. even tho it is obvious you are on a mission. then they say the famous " it my role play" bullsh!t. there is a line between role play and just being a jacka$$. problem is we have to many chidren here who cant tell the difference.

so yea make being a clan and having a clan base alot harder, make them do that terrible four letter word "WORK" for it. because when you do acheive a clan base and clan standing it will mean something that you can be proud of as a clan. not much clan pride left anymore.eveyone is out for themselves, and tbh it has hurt the game.

Personally I don't see the concept of having a clan just for the purpose of shooting red dots. You can do this just as easily being in a fl char... But I have to say I don't know much about the KBA background.
Anyway let's say that of all the clans recently erected, about 90% have been created for the purpose of RP. That is a fact.

Eagleone wrote:not much clan pride left anymore.eveyone is out for themselves
Very wrong there m8. The Black Legion is all about pride, among other things. And we are not out for our selfs, but to provide the players on Void of good RP gameplay. You should get acquainted once. Then you would know. Next to the BL there are plenty other clans which have a lot of pride. And also add a great deal of RP to this server.
I think you don't interact with RP clans enough to have a good picture about this m8.

Eagleone wrote:i dont want to burst any bubbles here but this is not a rp server, it is an open server, an clans and players can rp if they like.
No bubbles to burst here m8. This has been discussed many times, we all know it. Being an 'open server', means that there is a part which prefers non-rp, but also a part who loves RP. This thread is applicable to the part that does want to RP, ofcourse not to the part that prefers non-rp. Like you undoubtedly have noticed, many efforts have been made recently to try and improve RP gameplay for the ones who want it.  And it has been making a good comeback recently.

For the rest I agree with you. especially the idea of making clan bases a hard to achieve thing. A symbol of power and experience. And therefor a motivation to keep active in both in game time as RP performance.

Is it possible to make an active clan list that displays all the active clans like there is now, and then an inactive clan list that has their forums under it, but doesn't display the list until clicked? this way we can archive the goings on of the older clans and make it easy to replace their content if they come back, as well as cleaning the look of the forum and causing less confusion.
