Clan cleanup 2

Post by Strail »

Yeah, I know you thought this had gone away ;)

Ok heres a draft of how I see it. I would like to know if you agree in principle to what I say.

Clans

When trying to “pigeon hole” clans to fit a philosophy, it seems to me that you must be able to embrace clans who have the right philosophy and ideals of the server and community regardless of their numbers. Therefore, player numbers (clan members) shouldn’t play a big role in deciding if a clan is treated differently. I think and believe that it’s a mindset and an ongoing enthusiasm that drives a clan to be more than a “casual” coming together of players.

In trying to make a guideline document I have taken one clan which I think fits each category and built the framework around that.  I am now of the opinion that with the addition of clan bases, it is right to set out what I believe clans should achieve before time is wasted with mod development.

I’m therefore of the opinion that Professional clans should warrant a clan base, ships, etc. and that the other clans who are unable or unwilling to put the time into making (broadly speaking) the guidelines below, should not.

After a lot of thought, I also believe that the clans who are classed as “Professional” will help in passing their opinion on those “Aspiring Clans” to the Admins. Final decision will rest with me and I will take the view based on what I believe is best for the server. I will reiterate that the server will not be run by clans, however, I think that they can have some valuable input.

Any “Professional” or “Aspiring” clans who have players caught and banned for cheating – either in clan tags or not, will risk losing their status. Casual clans will not be accepted as “Aspiring”. It is the clans responsibility in their hiring, training and mentoring to ensure they do not have cheaters.

There are two clan groups

1. Serious Clan
2. Casual Clan

Serious Clan

This can best be described as a group of players who agree to and abide by a structured code of conduct within the clan. A serious clan can be further broken down to Professional and Aspiring.

Professional Clan

Has a clan leader, have clan hierarchy, structure and chain of command published, has ongoing diplomacy discussions with other clans and publishes the clan diplomacy. Clan has a background/history. Clan members are all well vetted before being tagged or have probation periods. Clan has an active involvement with the server website and participates regularly on the server forums. Clan is able to deliver either Role Play posts and/or regular news items to the void regarding their clan. Clan undertakes operations on server as a clan. Clan has its own web/forum/site. Clan supports and participates in (and/or) RP, Events, Clan Wars and other structured game play on the server. Has a minimum of 100 hours combined of play time on the server with the clan members. Clan conducts itself in a manner that enhances the game play, enjoyment and fun for other players in their actions as a clan. Is recognised by other Professional Clans as being equally committed to the success of the community and server. Actively bans players from the clan who are cheaters.

Aspiring Clan

Has a clan leader, have clan hierarchy, structure and chain of command published, has ongoing diplomacy discussions with other clans and publishes the clan diplomacy. Clan has a background/history. Clan members are all well vetted before being tagged or have probation periods. Clan has an active involvement with the server website and participates regularly on the server forums. Clan is able to deliver either Role Play posts and/or regular news items to the void regarding their clan. Clan undertakes operations on server as a clan. Clan supports and participates in (and/or) RP, Events, Clan Wars and other structured game play on the server. Has a minimum of 5 players. Has a goal to become a professional clan on the server. Actively bans players from the clan who are cheaters.

Casual Clan

This is a group of players who have decided to play together under the same tag. This clan has no real structure or does not include the minimum for an aspiring clan. A casual clan is for all intents and purpose either a start up with no real binding or reason; or a first step for players who are thinking about trying to get a clan going on the server. A casual clan does not need to be recognised by Aspiring or Professional clans. Casual clans enable the members to play together with no need for any of the requirements of the above, and therefore does not benefit from anything from the server.

I think this is the way to go. Clear demands, clear goals for clans. This will also contribute in the drive for smaller or less professional clans to work and do their best to be one of the professional clans, and therefor enhancing RP gameplay and thus fun for anyone on the server.
Absolutely the best way to go. I agree 100%.

On a side note: It might be a bit more clear to state the differences between the professional and the Aspiring clans. Secondly, will there be a section in the forum for clans to apply for a higher validation? A place where - like you said - also the other professional clans can put their votes in?

I concur whole heartedly. A defined structure, such as this, will inspire those who are serious about forming a clan and get clan leaders more involved with their present/future members. It can only help to bring a little depth to the server. :)

Im not sure about it.

The structure and idea of it is very good but i think that some of the stuff asked could be built on our taken off. heres 1 i think should be multiplyed about 5 times. 100 hours is not alot for a band of players, i would go more for the 500 hours area for a clan. clans should be active and should have good experience of the server.

:-? To be honest I feel that the minimum of 5 and 100hrs server time is enough to warrant a recognition, but not necessarily a clan forum site.  If they can keep it up for a set time peroid (still to be agreed - say Four Months) and are heading towards becoming an "aspiring" clans and at Strails discretion then a clan area should be allocated.  Casual clans come and go and should not be given any special considerations. We have some new folks turning up, one of which is noteably the YMER clan - formerly established on other servers and now visiting with us.  We also have our very own in the form of Syndicate, BBB and Eclipse as well established clans.  Others, regardless of size are still "aspiring"  - including -=REAVERS=- Running a clan is not easy  - I know this from first hand experience and I have witnessed organisations grow from a seed to something very sucessful - eg. AoF ( I know it was mine..sigh - but it was in other hands that the idea flourished)

I like the approach and feel that as the basis for a Guidline Document to Clans and Clan Status this is an excellent start.  As always the Boss has the final say.

I totally agree with your thoughts and feel it is definetly the way to go.

In addition, what do you think of clans having a very small charge or fee to pay each month.
I know this has its drawbacks and why should clans pay for the rest of the single players to play, but it would help with the running costs and it would make people think twice before popping up with yet another clan.

example - £3 per month for each clan member.

Clan has 5 members each paying £3 = £15 from that clan.

now if you have 10 clans each paying £15 =£150.

Clan leaders would be responsible for making sure the payment is made.

EVERYBODY can afford £3 per month, if ANYBODY says they cant then they aint bein 100% honest with you or themselves.  This is easily affordable and could be an idea for the future.

Give me our feedback guys.

You trying to tell me kids cant afford £3 per month

or

10p per day,  70p per week. c'mon m8t get in the real world.  The same kids would rather spend a hell of alot more than this on other things, that dont give them half the amount of enjoyment this places does.

If they dont want to pay then they dont need to join a clan.  And besides the £3 amount was only an example.

Can you imagine how much financial pressure this would take off Strail and others who pay for this server, just for us to play on for FREE!!
The way I see it , clans play the most amount of hours here,(with the exception of a few individuals ie eagleone and burn baby burn.) Time to make that mean something.

Im 15 and i dont have a pay pal account or a bank account i have access to. Ill be suprised if anyone else under my age does & there will be plenty of other modded servers that dont require this to be in a clan & many will leave because of that.

I accept the point about the age and paypal account, I dont know exact details of how this works exactly but I am sure there are ways aound it or other ways to pay.  And as for the point about people leaving because of a VERY small fee, Then that just shows how petty and narrow minded ,selfish andgreedy some people can be.

The idea will prob never get the go ahead but it if it did, the clan leader could organise there own payment method.
ie one player could pay for the entire clan of 5 players, lets say £3 each would be £15. But now that player wouldnt have to pay again for 4 months, until everybody had took there turn.

There are loads of options for this idea, I just thought it would help with the running costs.

well, if soemone charges u the game FL for £3 and some one offers u a brand new copy for free what would u do?

other servers have gr8 mods & Voids in competition with them in that kinda way for players and they will be more than happy to take the Voids players that dont want to pay. You got to remember why should players play here if they can play there on a good mod for free?

(i dont mean to be dis respectful to Void staff orthe mod/ community but tis a strong point in my veiw.)

i think weve went off topic so i wotn reply about this anymore.

I certainly do not like the idea of paying to maintain ones clan on the void.  If I wanted to pay by the month for a game I would still be in on World of Warcraft.  I know that Strail puts a lot of time and money into this server, and I think there should probably be more donations, but I think this is up to the individual to decide that they have the funds and desire to do this.  Donations given to the site should be a choice, not a requirement.

So let me get this straight.

Nobody wants to pay.
Everybody wants to play here.
So Strail pays for this every month AND fixes all the problems.
And we all play here for free.

I only suggest an example of how we could help with donations in a more structured way and everybody so far starts throwing the toys out of the pram.

Really does make you wonder doesnt it.
