This tournament will be an Olympic event... the Void version of the Pentathlon. It will consist of 6 separate events, each awarding points to the participants as determined by how they fare. Each event will also award bonus points according to the rules of that event. The Voidian with the most points at the completion of the tournament is the Void Champion. At least until the next time the tournament is held. It is my intent to hold it annually. However if it is deemed an overall success we might hold it more often. It is my intent to post a locked thread, the Champion Hall of Fame, displaying the reigning champion and his or her awarded points. Then let the bragging begin...
Here are the events to be held:
-1- The 1-on-1 PvP Event
This is to be exactly as it says. Combatants will be placed on a bracket in the order of their registration for that event. Fighters will duel according to the bracket until 4 are left for the finals. Each pair fights according to the schedule. The winners will fight. with the winner of that fight getting 1st place and the loser 2nd place. The losers will then fight for 3rd and 4th place.
Points are awarded in this event as follows: Each time a combatant advances he is awarded 100 points. So, the more you win the more points you win, but unless you don't win any fights, everyone will get some points. The overall winner receives 1000 bonus points, 2nd wins 750 bonus points, 3rd wins 500 and 4th wins 250.
In this event any style of combat is allowed.
-2- The Style Event
I have given this a lot of thought. With the on-going controversy over the best and "fairest" style of combat, I have decided to let players put their points where their mouth is. This event will consist of three separate portions: The Guns-only shoot-out, the Missiles-only shoot-out, and the Mixed-ammo shoot-out. All combatants in this event will participate in each part of the event. Therefore, if you are a gun-expert, this is where you will excel. If you are a spammer, this is where you will excel. If you prefer a balanced attack, this is where you have the advantage. This is where advocates of each style get to put it on the line. It also gives players a chance to see how the others play and what skills are needed to make it work. It's never as easy as it looks, no matter which style you are using.
Each part of this event is a single-elimination event. Combatants will fight from a pre-determined bracket. Each will be assigned their place in the bracket in the order of their registration for the event. Each round will be completed before the next round starts. Lose once and you are eliminated. Once the winner of each part is decided, they will get to fight each other for bragging rights and bonus points.
Points will be awarded as follows: Each time a combatant advances he is awarded 100 points. The winner of each part of the event is awarded 500 bonus points, and second in each part is awarded 250 bonus points. Finally, the three winners will fight each other once and will be awarded 500 points for each win.
-3- The Team PvP Event
This is as it says. 2-man teams will participate in a single-elimination event. Each team will fight from a pre-determined bracket. Combatants will be assigned their place in the event in the order of their registration. Lose once and your team is eliminated. Each round of the event will be completed before the next round begins. The last 4 teams to remain are the finalists. Places 1-4 will be determined by the results of the final two rounds the same as in the Single PvP Event.
Points will be awarded as follows: Each time a team wins each member of that team will be awarded 100 points. The 1st place team will be awarded 1000 bonus points. 2nd, 750 points, 3rd, 500 points, and 4th 250 points.
In this event any style of combat is allowed.
-4- The Survival Event
This is the time for defense. Players get to see how long they can survive in a 2-on-1 situation. Each player will square off against the winning team of the 2-man Team PvP Event! Players will be awarded 10 points for every second they survive. If a player manages to defeat both players of the 2-man team he will be awarded his time-points and a bonus of 1000 points. If the members of the 2-man team wish to also compete in this event, that player will be replaced by a player chosen my the event judge. There is no 1st, 2nd, etc placement in this event. It's about survival. Trying to escape the battle area will get a warning. Twice will be a disqualification.
In this event any style of combat is allowed.
-5- The Great Race
Players will all begin the race at the same time from the Void Sign outside the Planet Manhattan. Each will have to arrive at two waypoints and at the destination. At each station they will be required to dock. A judge will be at each station to ensure each participant docks. I have chosen Zoner bases as waypoints to ensure players can dock at each base. If for some bizarre reason a player is not Zoner-friendlyor neutral, I suggest he fix that before the event. The course is as follows:
Planet Manhattan to Planet Larissa in Omicron Gamma
Planet Larissa to Freeport 7 in Omicron Minor
Freeport 7 to Zeta Base in the EFZ
Sounds pretty simple? Here's the catch: Players will get to kill each other along the way. The Void is a dangerous place. Try not to die too many times before you finish the race. Therefore I suggest you dock along the way or you will naturally be sent back to your previous checkpoint.
Points will be awarded according to the time of each racer. Each players time in seconds will be subtracted from 5000. All participants who finish will be awarded points. Of course if you give up you get no points.
-6- Total War
That's right. The final event is everyone last chance for revenge and victory. Want a crack at the one who eliminated you in a previous round? Want to get the guy who killed you right in front of the last gate in the race? Want a chance to make up bonus points? Think this is your real talent? Now you have it: a total free-for-all. There are only two rules: everyone will be scanned to be sure they have no Bats and Bots. And there will be positively no respawning. Violators of either rule will be beamed to a far away part of the Void to find their way back. Other than that, anything goes. The last two left alive will win 500 bonus points, and the final survivor wins another 500 points. In case both players kill each other at the same time, both will get the additional 500 points.
In the end, the participant with the most points will be crowned the Grand Champion.
PRIZE MONEY
What event would be complete with out prize money at stake. And since this is a big event there will be big money at stake. Also, I want everyone to be able to come away with some prize money equal to how well they did in the various contests, rather than just the top finishers getting the prizes. So, I am making prize money won related to the number of points earned.
Each player will receive 1000 credits for each point earned. To put it in perspective, in tournaments where players are awarded 100 points for advancing to the next level, each advance wins 100,000 credits. Players who win an event and earn 1000 bonus points also win 1,000,000 credits. Now, in case this is not obvious to anyone, since the number of players involved determines the number of rounds that must be played to determine a winner, naturally the amount of prize money also depends on the number of players. The more players, the more any one player can win.
I hope this will encourage players who know they can't possibly make all 5 of the events to participate in as many as possible. Naturally, players who attend all events have the best chance of becoming the Grand Champion, but you never know... It all depends on what everyone else does.
Now is the time to ask questions and get clarification for this grand event. Suggestions to change an event will be considered.
I would like to see as many Voidians as possible in this tournament. So please tell me here when you will be most available to participate. I will try to time each event according to the best convenience of most if not all players. Naturally, this event could not possibly take place all in one day. I hope to hold events each in one day, hopefully on consecutive weekend days. Therefore it may take as long as two weeks to determine the Grand Champion, unless players decide they can make it more often. Let's see. However, I will decide when each event will take place and once that is determined there will be no changing it.
Post your reaction to this event here. Registration will begin in a few days. I need time to create the brackets and get judges, and to allow everyone to become aware of this monumental event.
The point of the Void is to have fun.
Let the fun begin.
