Look, the problem is that the server cannot be contacted/connected with.

It has nothing to do with the mod/flmm etc etc.

Until you sort out your router and firewall in Vista your not going to get anywhere.

Ever find a solution?  I'm having the same problem...spent hours trying to connect not realising that my AV is one of the bad ones and then when I get on I get frozen almost as soon as I Launch.

Ping is just timing out.

Tracert is getting 10 levels and then timing out 11 on.

Turned Windows Firewall off and even stopped it in Services.

Not using a router.

Need any more info?  Any ideas?

ya migth wanna check out ur taskmanager at network tab...finding out what causes the lag

Well it's not really lag.  I just get that bad connection symbol and it won't let me interact with anything but I'm still flying around.  I think it's just something blocking or limiting my connection but I'm not as IT savy when it comes to networks and connections.

Hi, its still a problem with the firewall/router etc.

Im sorry I cant help more as I run XP, but for definte, its one of those causing the problem

You could Alt+Tab out of the game and check your Task Manager to see what other Processes are active (showing a higher CPU procental rate) while Freelancer is running.

Ok I'll keep trying things out...if I figure it out I'll post something so there's at least a quick answer for the next Vista Victim.

And nope...no unusual processes.  Still think something's just blocking the signal somehow...trick is figuring out what.

Hmm... every time I do the tracert it goes to the tenth level and then stops and the tenth level is always the same:   so-5-2-0.core1.cob1.uclo.de [85.14.194.34]
Once again I know very little when it comes to networks and such so I have no clue if that even makes a difference.

Ok let's see...tried disabling Windows Firewall and Defender, turned off that IPv6, switched my AV to  AVG, don't have any other firewalls or anything that I'm aware of...but still can't ping the server even though I can briefly connect.  Man Vista is such a pain.  Who would've thought you'd have this much of a headache trying to connect to a MICROSOFT game.

Oh well, time to keep digging.

I thing I have the same problem as you...when I try to leave Manhattan for the first time it crashes me to desktop but without any messages...  followed the same tips but cant play...  #-o  :-??

Mine doesn't crash it just gives me that bad connection symbol for awhile and then disconnects me and boots me back to the server list.
