In-Game Tag Discussion
As a result of regular ongoing arguments about tags and role-play, I'm inviting people to put forward ideas on what we do or what we change.
I'm sick and tired of having the same arguments and the same discussions every few months, so, nows the time for you to put up some suggestions and see if we can get a general consensus on it all.
Im particularly interested to hear what the role playing people think, as well as the non role play people think.
Keep in mind that "get rid of them all" isnt going to work and is a dumb thing to say given the mix of players, as is having lists and lists of tags.
Please keep it constructive, there are a lot of different views and we need to maybe draw from other servers and their rules to make this work.

Re: In-Game Tag Discussion
Here are my views on things (and this comes from a non-roleplaying individual)
I think that it would be very wise and also very good for the server to get rid once and for all of the so called "Rogue RP" wich in my opinion has brought only harm to this server.
Here's a situation wich i encountered while trading (with the risk of repeating myself as i have posted this in another thread aswell) :I launched into space (flying an Armored Transport) and was greeted by a Rogue outside who imediatly opened fire on me. Got shot down in my next three lauches aswell.
On the fourth one however he mentioned something like "Ok one more kill and you're free to go" Now my question would be where is the RP in that? Can anybody detect any slight roleplaying in that, becasue i must surtenly did not detect anything especially after being shot down 5 times in a row. This probably happpens all around the Void to many other players so there's no wonder that the traders (as they are the prefered pray for the Rogues) are not paying any tax to Pirates and i can't blame them especially not after being shot down multiple times by a R who's only ruining other players fun just becasue his so called RP allows him to do so. This brings me to the conclusion that the Rogue RP is actually only damaging the Pirate tax RP and the Traders paying tax RP.
If the R tag get's removed it will actually encourage these ex-Rogues to create Pirate chars wich by themselves will increase a more mannered behavior among players as Pirates ask for their tax first before opening fire something that cannot be said about the Rogues who act like people suffering from freakin' rabies. (bringing back the Alexandria Gates in thier original alignment will also create a nice "environment" for RP-ing)
The rules can also be enforced especially regarding abusive in-game behavior by any non tagged players so that the Admins won't get overwhelmed by PM's refering to this.
I'm not quite sure who came up with this Rogue RP idea (i think it was Ent) but if you ask me i think the Devil himself made it up...the Devil himself >:)

Re: In-Game Tag Discussion
My suggestion would not be far from what we have. Use the [R] [X] [H] tags . any clan that would have RP as one of those would have to add that to thier name. Exam [IFU]Warchief[x] or [R] or[h]. Any clan that is military, police or freelancer would not be allowed to run the [X] or[R]. As those are unlawful tags. Anyone wanting to remain outside RP use the [NP] in thier name for neutral player Neutrals would not be allowed in clans. Now with freelancer having tags of all types it confuses some because [IFU] Warchief is safe but [IFU] Warchief [X] would be hostile. So if you have a freelancer clan it has to remain as a non tagged player. So the only legal way to tag my clan would be [IFU] Warchief (no tag) . My clan woul d be free to trade, map, loot NPC and of course attack [X] or [R] but not be pirates. Now if we run a Nomad clan they are hostile to all at all times. We could tag them [Nomad] and if you allow more than 1 nomad clan put thier clan id on the end. Exam [Nomad] jubl[ ssc]. This would limit a clan to one type of RP [IFU] could not be some traders some pirates some rogues. anyone seeing the [IFU] clan id would know that they would not attack if not attacked. Police military or even freelancer clans could add the [H] for bounty hunter. As any unlawful clan would have the [X] [R] and [A]. Unlawful clans would have to salvage what they kill. Because if they happen to be in a unescorted trader they are fair game as targets for any lawful or hunter freelancer.
You could have[IFU]Warchief/ [IFU] Warchief[T] or [IFU Warchief[H] any other designation not allowed for [IFU] or any freelancer clan.
Then for a unlawful clan you would have [BBD]blood [X] [BBD] blood[R] [BBD] blood [A]
Now whether you were alien or humanoid you would have to choose 1 of three categories Lawful Unlawful or freelancer and you could not have all three categories in 1 clan.
[NP] would be like a seperate clan outside RP. Plus they could move to a clan when and if they are ready to join RP.
We would also consider players with just a name as [NP]. So [NP] Tory or just TORY would be non RP.

Re: In-Game Tag Discussion
Sorry should have read the other thread first. So now this is not in the correct order. This should have been posted before my suggestion.
It is true that freelancer is a first person shooter Role playing game. But as with any game you have to have some guidelines. It was designed as a single player game where it is you against the NPC.
What we have done with modding is expanded the priniciples of the game. So with so many players on line we have to choose roles in the game. We can' t all be doing what we want.
Strail and the others have tried to make a server where we all can have fun and still get the flavor of RP. This does not mean that a bunch of "griefers" can come on and argue around in circles for thier pleasure. You guys know good and well on many servers your conduct would not be tolerated for one minute. It is very plain that if you want to act like a Rogue you MUST BE tagged as a rogue or join a unlawful clan. Now the way I see it you have 4 options that you have been given. 1 add a [R] tag to your name or join a clan that is evil 2 attack only NPC because this is what is expected of people who don't want to join RP. 3 Leave this server for one suited to your ideas(if you can find one)4 continue like you are going and be banned eventually. Now I don't paticularly care which one you do. I just wanted to let you and others like you know we are aware you are just playing word games. No one could be as hard to make understand as you seem to be So pull in your silly arguments join in the spirit of working out a workable system with all of us.Add some constructive ideas. It is not constructive to suggest to change the tagging so you can do it your way.
Strail and you other admins I am sorry for butting in this way but I read the other thread and I thought I could interject some information that anyone can understand.

Re: In-Game Tag Discussion
Burn_Baby_Burn- 5 kill rule why let you go.
As per tags. Only thing that frustrates me as a Pirate is when some one will be going after pirates and rogues and just them. Not that rly...it when they not even wearing a [H] tag. At least if you going to hunt down a pirate and/or rogue wear a [H] tag. Other wise in my mind it voids the whole rp fun for us pirates and/or rogues.
I like the idea of there being a tag for players who wish to not do any kind of pvp. How ever....if that comes into effect the rules should state that it also means they have no right to attack any other player because we can't attack them (only fair).
As per clans have tags... Let them be what ever kind they want. They want have every type tag in there clan? Let em. It will drive them nuts from time to time....but let them.

Re: In-Game Tag Discussion
I don't think clans should have to tag up as an [X] or an [R] if they want to tax and KOS. This is because their clan tag is a representation of what and who they are. An example of this is if (lets say) Black Legion wants to go rogue, then they can. If a player who doesn't know who they are comes along and gets killed by them, they should know that they are Rogues. Common sense tells them that whenever they see a [Black_Legion] that they are going to be in for a fight. Same goes for taxing. If a [Black_Legion] tagged character comes up to you and says "Tax please" don't you assume that they are going to tax you every time you see them?
I say this because, if they want to, clans can change their RP according to their wishes, without having to completely delete their old characters and start again. If Black Legion wore Rogue tags and simply decided that they were going to be nice from now on, everybody would have to change their tags. Another reason for this is because it just generally makes life more exciting. If you come across a clan you have never met before, you are constantly wondering what they are up to. If you really want to know, go look up their clan forums and read their mission statement. Clans should be free to move between RP if they want to, and not be bound by a specific style.
By the way, Black Legion was the first clan name that popped into my head, and I based my arguement around HYPOTHETICAL situations only using their name. Black Legion is not a clan of Taxing Rogues who change their RP every day. :D

Re: In-Game Tag Discussion
By limiting the types of tags in a clan it helps to minimize the confusion for all players of the server. They see a AOF in the distance they will know they are non hostile to lawful. This makes it easier for new players to sort out the RP.
In the spirit of the game Rhineland military don't pirate or kill like a rogue. So a player see Rhineland ship they know they are ok. But they see a corsair they know to run. So we need to pattern our RP along the same lines.
By limiting freelancers to neutral or lawful tags it gives the evil players thier targets. But a freelancer can run contraband which also makes him a target of lawful. Say a freelancer caught carrying contrand 10 or 12 tims by {PR} makes him a smuggler and a target for them to make stand and dump cargo or place a bounty on.
As for lawful clans several have home systems. I think the{PR} are claiming one. So as a trader if I want to trade there I have to get permission (or buy a permit) This gives them an excuse to stop every ship in thier system to check them. Trust me if I am carrying cardamine I will run before I stop for search. Plus the police (military) would provide escorts for convoys. The convoys would be made up in part by thier freighters and straight trader clans if we have them. If we use the things that Strail and others have already placed in game we can get the clear RP they intended.

Mightybean- Only problem with that is then you get to hear 500x (maybe more) complaints about such here in the forums till the Admins decide they are sick of it and we are right back at square one. So I think a tag for clans should be madatory unless they don't fall into any of the catagories.

Re: In-Game Tag Discussion
I don't think clans need tags (except pirates, for taxing).
As for individuals......
If you wanna be bad use [X] or [R] tag.
If you wanna be good use [N] tag.
If you wanna hunt use [H] tag.
If you wanna earn some money use [M] or [A] tag.
As for traders i don't think its smart to make obligatory [T] tag, because they are easy target as it is,i mean they ARE in slow ships with no chance to fight.
If you wanna be freelancer you don't need tag and you CANT act as a rogue or pirate,to be clear:FREELANCERS SHOULDN'T ATTACK OTHER SHIPS WITH NO REASON.
However you can join the battle on good or bad side.

Re: In-Game Tag Discussion
I think if people are prepared to complain that quickly then they are the ones with the problem, not the tagging system.
If they can't realise that "Hey, this guy is hostile, that must mean it's his clans RP", they probably aren't ready for a game like Freelancer.
Forcing multiple amounts of tags on every single player will only take the spirit out of the game, and at this point I'd like to emphasize the name again, Freelancer. You have to give and take in this game. You can't expect everyone to abide by the way you want to play, you have to accept how others are going to play and take it in stride. If you can't do that then Freelancer isn't the game for you, go play Counter-Strike or something.

Yea Liman I agree, if your are untagged and you have the urge to fight someone, ask for a PvP, simple. Leave the unprovoked attacks to the Rogues.

Re: In-Game Tag Discussion
I think that this discussion would have not sense if players play the game in a good mood, respectingo others fun. If we all have enough respect for others then the tags for killing others wont be necessary. We can see back 4 years ago, and we find many clans and ppl killing a lot. But I dont remember this kind of discussion, ¡¡think why!!
But unfortunately this is not the situation. I mean, I agree that this is a shooting game, and players are here for fighting (most of them). But we need to give some chances to the players that want to learn and cant defense by themselves.
If I were new in server and I would see some tags that I know they are going to kill me then I have a chance to avoid them. And they would have the chance to hunt me
There are many players that would not avoid evils, and all of ppl that want to get fun fighting have their choice. I know that some of the players dont want to get a tag, but what does it cost?, it is just a letter, a simple letter.
And I am only talking about new players or not skilled players, because where is the fun in killing a new player?. The fight would get 5 seconds.
But some players like to kill anyone several times and improve the frags. Then give a little chance to the new player, get a tag and warn him.
Maybe some of you think: come on, you just have to respawn so whats the problem. I say, come on, it is just a simple tag. And dont tell me that you dont want follow a RP, because the tag could be jus a "K" (killer) for exxmple, and could just mean that you like to kill anyone.
it is just my opinion

Re: In-Game Tag Discussion
So the idea is
Freelancer clan tags and no other tag but they are not allowed to be pirates or Rogues [IFU]warrior means he is a freelancer but no taxing or killing for sport.
Evil clans would mark [X] or [R] or [A]plus thier clan id IE [BBD] Blood[X] for a pirate charging tax [BBD]Blood[R] for one that will kill you on sight.
lawful clans would be like {PR} jubal and not be allowed to do [X] or [R]
pirates not in a clan terrence[X] would be thier designation
and rogues BIG BADWOLF[R]
Plus players with no letters in brackets would be outside RP til they add a [x][r][a][T]
Is that what the proposal is? Sounds reasonable to me and very simple
I want to applaud some of the most reasonable suggestions I have seen. It seems to me we are pretty much on the same wve length on this stuff. So I am sure we can work it out. Good job guys.
