I have posted a Poll with all of our ideas, to get an idea of where we are at.

Let me just say..
I'M ONLY TRYING TO HELP
Some of you may think it is not needed, and look at me in a very negative way for posting it, but in my eyes it needed to be done! If you don't want to see the server change, go and vote.

But please, for the love of the Void do not FLAME... I really just want it to run it's course. You may feel the need, but really, just this once.

Just increase the level required for killing up to 45  and all is good
Thats not a to good idea lol, everyone would bank there cash and be under that.

Get rid of the R tagg isnt so bad at all, you just buy the Rogue licence. Same for pirates. To increase pirate RP the max tax should be higher. and there should be longer, and more profitable trade routes. Then you dont wanna get killed if ya have to fly some pesky ends again. And loosing your cargo.

Rogue RP is very active so nothing should happen with that.

but hey, this is about taggs lol.

Get rid of the taggs, they only cause trouble. like for a rogue for instance.

everyone who sees the R immidiatly attacks him or retreats. even when the rogue is just sitting somewere. being AFK for instance. i think the taggs cause more trouble then fun IMHO.

Re: In-Game Tag Discussion

I have been sitting here reading this topic for days, and I'm going to put my two cents in for what its worth.

Role play is extremely interperative, one person's RP isn't another persons RP.  There are huge endless boundaries in RP.  In my 5 years of playing freelancer, I have seen many different kinds of RP.  None of them wrong, some are very left wing, but still Role Play adds a bit of spice to freelancer life.

To be quite honest, I don't see much RP here.  I came from a server where RP was first, and it was a lot of fun, at least for me, because I like to RP.  Now, RP'ing 24/7 isn't my bag either, sometimes I like to chill out.  Rogues in group?  Whats the point of being a Rogue if your in group with someone?  I've seen hundreds of Rogues, NOT one has ever tried to swindle me.  Rogues sitting AFK?  Dear god.......... , are they not supposed to be flying around killing stuff and trying to extort money from people?   Maybe its a case of looking at the people who RP, and not the tag itself.  Maybe its a case of having an admin invite only to the Rogue role, only the best RP's get to be Rogues, people who don't abuse the role.  Again, this is my RP, its just a suggestion, and of course more work for the admins.

There are many different issues in this topic.  The one that bothers me the most, is people whining and moaning about getting shot.  Well, you come into a game with guns, guess what, your going to get shot.  There is a 5 kill rule.

I come from a very different place in Freelancer, where shooting people was the norm, and respawn wars sometimes went on for days.  The essence of Freelancer is to kill or be killed, not sit around crying because someone shot you.

Removing tags from the server adds less RP, in my opinion, and removes a bit of the game for me.  HOWEVER, not everyone likes to RP, and there has to be some sort of medium way to have ALL players interact with each other.

I do have to say for those who were in Alex last night, I have not laughed that hard in months in FL.  People dismounting guns, and all the love chars, was hilarious.  I even wanted to take BADWOLF on a picnic with me =P~ .  BUT hanging out doing that every night would make me bin the disk.

So with all that in mind, here is a thought.  It is possible to set flac to not kill in systems.  So, if those people who don't want to be shot, hang out in, say the house systems, and flac is set for no pvp in those systems, those people are safe from being shot.  At least in the house systems, this would exclude Omicron Theta, since it is the Omicrons.

Again, just a mere suggestion, but this is my 2 cents worth.

One other point I would like to bring up.

Paying fines or tax, whatever you want to call it.

Does anyone here NOT have the testicular fortitude to admit when they are beat?  I mean, if someone kills you repeatedly, why not pay?  It'll cost ya 200k to fly away with your pride intact.  If your smart, you'll try to barter for 100k, as I did in my trader in Alpha.  A pirate asked 200k tax, I told him to take 100k and fly off.  There is no doubt in my mind, I could of outran him, I could of escaped, BUT, I needed to make some cash.  Considering that fact, it cost me 100k and I kept on trading.  How simple is that?

Here is my for instance:

Greaver taxed me today, he beat me, I basically handed me arse to me, so I paid him.  I am girl enough to know when I am beaten, so I paid.  It didn't break my bank, or my honor.  Because Greaver certainly is the better pilot.

So with that people, think about the next time someone asks you for tax, if you are beaten pay, least you can fly away with your honor intact.

@ Strail:

Sorry about the other thread I opened up, just thought it would be a good idea to have this discussion, and the other one for just tallying.
It just looks like there a lot of people for one idea, but when you read it its only 2 people posting heaps of times (me for example)
On that note...

That is not right m8. The minimum level of a VHF fully setup and 5 millions credits is about level 40 so I dont think PPL could avoid the fight

For those reading this thread and posting on it Torches comments should be listened to for what they are worth.

What she is saying is that all of us who wish to RP have different perspectives on how RP should be played.

For my part and I speak for all of the RAF clan here, when we apply the H tag this means we are adopting the Hunter role, it means we will escort traders freely, kill X and R tagged on sight without warning or justification or saying please Mr X or R may I engage you, and in exchange we expect the same from the X and R tagged chars.

Freelancers, mercs and assasins are different we only attack if attacked first.

She is also right on another matter, all tagged chars have got to stop moaning when attacked without warning when you wear the tag it comes with the role we accept that so should every other tagged char after all its not RL and is all done in good fun.

As far as taxing goes if I am beaten, which is often if I am asked for tax by a tagged char it will be paid without question this is the same for all RAF players.

Wear the tags guys and gals and wear them with honour which ever tag you choose

I applaud the Boss for wanting to know where the players stand on the tag idea. And what he's learned is that no one agrees. Each player has his own idea on how to play the game.

Well whadaya know. 50+ players... 50+ ways to play. Is that surprising? It shouldn't be.

I just checked the pack that contains the FL CD and I can't find anything anywhere that says if you play this game you have to play it a certain way. Then I logged into the MP mode and read the writing there and all I could find is that there the mode of play may be different than in the SP game. I looked at the server list and I saw the icon that means players can damage other players next to the Void. Then I logged into the Void and I read the blurb that says players might shoot you for no particular reason.

Seems I have been warned adequately to realize I stand the risk of being fired upon if I play Freelancer on-line and particularly if I log into the Void to play.

So I ask you... where is there any cause for confusion? We’re all familiar with the expression, “The Void is a dangerous place.”

What am I getting at? Simply this: The use of tags is lame. It seems to me the only reason they exist is for the people who can’t or don’t read and understand the writing I mention above.

In my opinion, RP tags should be taken out of the game. If you belong to a clan that’s all you should need for a tag. Each clan’s RP is clearly written in the forums, and in fact clans are required to put that information up in their forum section. Why? So other players know where that clan is coming from.

Everyone else who is not a member of a clan should be considered a freelancer … strange coincidence, that. Same as the name of the game. I wonder if there’s any relationship between the two... who can play the game however they want to. And that means if they want to fire upon other players they should be allowed to. It is, after all, as we so often hear, a shooting game. As Zeb puts it so many times, deal with it. Or go someplace else.

Sounds rather harsh but seriously, folks… if you’re playing a game where players can and do shoot each other, should there actually be any question?

OK, I know full well that there are players who fly the Void for the sole purpose of red-dot hunting and maybe trading. OK. It’s probably these players who have the biggest concern and stake in the tagging idea. They might not want to be shot at or shoot at others. So again, I have to ask: Aren’t they the players who should wear the tags?

So here’s my idea: Non-PvP players should wear a tag that says they don’t want to be shot at. Everyone else is fair game.

Certainly that would be a lot easier for everyone. One tag with one meaning. That’s a lot easier for Admin and Server Guards to keep track of.

I know this has been floated before, the idea of non-PvP players wearing a tag that says so. And it’s been said that such a thing would be hard to keep track of and easy for payers to abuse. It might be abused by players who might switch ships from a PvP’er to Non-PvP’er and back for their own convenience. And to that I say… So? Sometimes you want to just kill red dots. Sometimes you want to trade. And sometimes you really want to play Freelancer.

So if you don’t want to PvP today, as I sometimes don’t, then put yourself into the tagged ship and have fun.

And if you want to interact with others, then play in any other ship. If you’re not tagged, you’re free to shoot and be shot at. No matter who does the shooting or for what pretext. If it makes it easier for the duller ones here, think of everyone as if they have an [R].

In summary: Tag = No shoot. No tag = shoot. Isn’t that a lot easier than trying to keep track of a zillion tags and what they’re all for?

Well everyone keeps saying that the RP of pirate is dead. And with the 200K restriction on it they're probably right. If we're not going to let Pirates play the RP in any meaningful way, then yes. No X tag.

Do we really attack traders? Is it some sort of victory for a fighter loaded to the teeth to gun down an AT with no shields?

Trading is a way to play the game. Red dot killing is a way to play the game. PvP is a way to play the game.

I don't hear people saying that we should be free to shoot players on a mission... why should there be about players who are flying a trader?

If you think about it, the pirate RP is a like a black hole. You can get sucked into it but you never get anything out of it. Players today play the [X] RP the same as they play the [R] RP. They don't ask much for a tax anymore. Because no one will pay it. If the 200K limit were lifted and a pirate could ask for a million... do you think traders would be more willing to pay? No... pirates would be killing traders no matter how much they ask for. So it's natural for [X] players to avoid the preliminaries and just shoot first.

RP should be limited to the clan role play. Everyone else is a Freelancer. And in either of those, it's shoot first and ask questions later... if that's how you want to play it. No one says you have to shoot... but you have to be ready and expect that anyone without a tag will shoot.

That's how I see it. Simple. Simple is good. Keep it simple and you keep it fun. Everyone trying to remember all the rules and the Void staff trying to enforce all of them makes for less fun. And therefore for less players.

Here's how I think it should be:

Rule #1: Players who do not with to participate in PvP in any form will fly a ship tagged with [NRP] (or whatever). They are not to be fired upon by any player for any reason. Shooting a player tagged [NRP] is a banning offense.

Rule #2: Any player in a ship not tagged [NRP] is subject to being fired upon. Period. No whining, no complaining. You don't want to be fired upon, see Rule #1.

Rule #3: No abuse of players, no harassment, no swearing, etc... as already stated in the rules as we know them. None of that should change.

See? Simple.
