However,  I am beginning to believe that there's some level of conflict of interest with being a Server Guard and playing anything but a strictly good guy. Seems being a an unlawful character doesn't match well with being one who's supposed to uphold the law on the server. Some have a hard time seeing the difference between the RP and the role on the Staff.  In fact, I am pretty much on the verge of resigning my [VOID] position in order to be free to play the game in whatever role I choose. I was a player first.

If you didn't get it, this is describing the lack of insight some players have. I'm sorry you didn't get that the first time.

But I guess you are just showing your true colors for once. I am wondering why you just said this. Can't think of anything reasonable to be honest... Just that you decided it would be nice to try and publicly embarrass me. I'm sorry to burst your tiny bubble: you failed.

You know what the real danger for this server is? Players who call themselves 'veterans', from whom new players expect mature, insightful and objective attitudes, who instead display a childish attitude like making posts like the one you just did. It is these things that negatively surprise new players and scare them away. Next to that, you have deeply offended me with your remark. You have dented my motivation to work on FAQ and Event Team, now you have raised the idea that some people may have the idea I do it to get in the good graces of the [VOID]s and [ADMIN]s. It has a very destructive effect on my motivation. Thanks.

Another thing: I have been working my backside off to get FAQ back up to its current form (with the great help of others). I have been putting effort (and still am) in the Event Team. Both to do my bit in providing a more enjoyable environment for every player here and possibly attract new ones. Joining -=REAVERS=- has the same reason. But I don't expect you to understand all that.

You on the other hand have chosen to delete your [FAQ] char even without having the decency to notify your fellow FAQ members or anyone for that matter about it. You just left, leaving everyone else in the dark. You try to look like the nice guy on the forums to new players, whilst at the same time you try to embarrass and make underhanded remarks towards others, engaging in personal insults and flames, being downright disrespectful to another person.

Your last 20 posts on this forum have displayed a fast and steady line downwards in terms of attitude. Maybe you are trying to charm the big-mouths here, I don't know. And I don't give a toss. The way you address me tells me your true colors. And not just to me. But it seems you don't care about that. How 'vet-like' of you.

For your interest: Would I want to be a [VOID]? Yes, I would. Very much so. And let me get this out of the way once and for all:
Law-enforcement has been in my blood forever, and I have seen more things in that area than many others, even with years of experience in the field, ever will. I have seen things you only see in the movies and witnessed death from up close on several occasion. Like I said it's in my blood, you are sort of born with it or not. Even now, when I am no longer working in law-enforcement, it's there, and it will be there forever. People who know me, know this.
Being a [VOID] would be as second nature to me. But wanting to be a [VOID], and twisting and turning to be one, are two separate things.

But again, I don't expect you to understand.

The funny thing for me was how things have changed during the years with a dramatic downfall after the introduction and abuse of the [R] tag. (accusations of cheat,lag,moans about why getting killed etc etc)
This tag has lead to an outspread of hate among players wich can now be seen on the Forums aswell.

Yep I see the way its going again, Shonan attack on me, which i couldt really care about any less than i did 1o minutes ago . Others going after reavers, ect ect.
Jeez i think ill just shut up and shoot things in my cartoon ship and let you lot argue to your hearts content. Seems that to some that is more fun than playing Freelancer.

Hatchet... Such an  insightful post. Thank you for that.

I am dismayed to see how a post that for the most part is asking players to play and remember it's a game, and to keep the forum light and game-play related... to see this post turned into exactly what it was started to discourage is so very disappointing.

There was a time when there was respect among the players here. There were some players who were very respected in the forums for their words and how they put them and were told those words were appreciated. People would listen... not always agree... but listen and respond with a certain respect and maturity, in kind to the words they were replying to.

What happened?

Now words are taken out of context, opinion are stated as if they were facts, or worse they are responded to as if they were insults. For crying out loud... an incredibly appropriate colloquialism... words are just words. Opinions are just opinions. Each person has his own way of seeing things and each has his own way of thinking and feeling about it. When people start to feel that their way is the right way and everyone else should conform to that way of thinking, we are in imminent danger of emulating the real world in all its worst.

I care about the Void. If I didn't I would not have bothered to return after becoming so disenchanted and discouraged some months ago. I remember when I decided to leave, how so many players stated they were unhappy I was leaving and wished I would stay, that my insights would be missed, that if I really thought things were making the Void so unpleasant I would be a better person to stay and try to change it rather than run away.

Those last words sat like a greasy bratworst in my belly for a long time,.gnawing at me. In the end I decided I really did love the Void and if I did then I should act as if I did.

Here I am.

And I'm having a hard time reconciling my care for the Void against my growing disappointment that I'm spitting against the wind. There's a joke, goes like this:

Just one, but the light bulb has to really want to be changed.

So how about it? Players post th8ings like Zeus has and like Hatchet has and players say wow those are good words and then they go ahead and do whatever they were doing as if it doesn't really matter.

So I ask you... does it really matter?

It's a game. As I have said before. We fly our little make-believe ships and shoot our little make-believe ray guns are other make-believe ships and they go boom. What's supposed to happen next is, we have a good laugh, hit respawn and do it again. Instead we take it oh-so-seriously and get angry and start fiussing about it as if it was something important. In the scheme of things, here's how I see the importance of this or any other game:

1: My self-respect. Can I look at myself in the mirror and say I am a good person, do I like myself, do I live my life without hurting anyone else's self-respect?
2: My health
3: My family and my relationship with it.
4: My financial indepencence and my ability to tend to 1,2 and 3 above.
5: My friends
6: My house.
7: My car and my ability to get around unhindered.

.
.
.
.
397: A game.


Well, it least it's on the list.

There are two reasons I care about this. One is number 5 above. I have made a lot of friends here. And I do enjoy the game... hence it's being on the list.

Having said that I will say just one more thing... something I have said many times before and have seen so many of my friends here say were wise words.

It's all about respect. Respect for yourself and for others. I would be surprised if I were to learn that people who post some of the things they say here would say the same thing to their mothers. I seriously doubt it. And to me that's a statement about respect.. including self-respect. Respect to others... in as much as if you would feel comfortable with someone else saying that to you, then go ahead and say it. And to yourself... in as much as do you really think what you are saying reflects your real self and how you would like others to see you.

Now I will point out something I learned recently from a very wise man: It's none of your business what others think of you. That's their business.

On the other hand, how you present what you think of others is very much their business.

All that to say this:

Can't we all just behave in a way that you want everyone else to behave?

That is respect.

After a few beers it struck me that it is pretty strange that most if not all people do not like the way it's been going lately, yet no-one seems to do something about it. That's weird isn't it. When I think of it, if a few people start, the rest might follow. Venom might have had a point; as it is now, the Void can use a little 'love'. From its inhabitants for example. What do we get from throwing insults around? Nothing more than an ego-boost right? In the mean time it's destructive to our community. Do we want that? Do we want for Strail to pull the plug because we made a big mess of the community he provides for us? Wouldn't that be as much disrespectful as it would be digging our own hole? Because that's the way we might be headed if we keep this up. We are one of the last three surviving Freelancers servers. And look at the way we are treating it. We're doing it wrong guys.

I don't know about you, but I'm going to do my best to provide for some fun in my -=REAVERS=- char. I hope others will follow. If I get my motivation back, I am gonna spend some more time in my FAQ char and running events.
If you don't like me: well, I'm not going anywhere anytime soon. So we might as well try to get along while we are here. You will see that if you treat me with respect, you will get it back from me. It works both ways you know. And you will see that we could actually have fun together.

Why don't we leave the discussions about [R] tags, spamming and all that where they are, and concentrate on what we do ingame. If you don't like fighting a missile boat, then why not turn around and engage another player? Don't start calling him spammer. If you don't like fighting a Rogue, green him and ask him not to interact with you. Don't go calling him stuff. If there is something on your mind, make sure you think about your words before you vent them. Think about how your text would look from another one's perspective. Show a little consideration for other people their feelings.
There are people who don't like me, there are people here I wouldn't invite on my birthday party. We can't all be friends in a community with so many people. But what we do can is spend a wee bit more energy and attention to the way we talk to our fellow Voidians. You will see the difference in the other person his reaction when he notices a sense of respect coming from you. Respect doesn't come in presents and you can't force it. You have to earn it. And the fastest way to get it is to give it to others. Set your ago aside for a bit, and think about what it really is you want.

How fun would it be if the Void was once more the pleasant environment it was a while ago? And it's not that hard really...

I've never been insulted the entire time I have played on the Void. Admittedly it's only been 6 months or so, but that's still enough time for people to see my true colours.

I'm not negative about fellow players, and I get to know them before I judge them.

I can also bring up the point of 'smart abusers' those who goat others, which I see a lot of.

Yes we are a community, yes we should respect each other.  I think we all have had moments when someone pisses you off, but me, being a grown adult, will either leave the system, or the server, which ever suits me at that particular moment in time.

I'm not really sure anyone is giving you behavior lessons, I think they are called opinions, everyone has one, and everyone is allowed to express them, for good or bad.
