Mission Bug returns
Today (17 November) 8:10 am GMT i encountered the mission bug once more.
(System:Sigma-13 Base:Yanagi Depot)
Checked with a mate of mine (LOT) who also encountered the same problem earlier this day.
Perhaps making the mod accessable for all types would be an option so that the normal players (non-modded) would be allowed to enter the server without a crash to desktop after launching from Manhattan
When i first started playing Freelancer in multiplayer modus i had no idea what a mod was but luckily for me the server i first accessed allowed both types of players (modded and non-modded) to enter it.
If players want to experience Vanilla Freelancer let them..eventually they will encounter a modded ship and ask arround how to get one --> players will guide them to this website for the download of the mod and further instructions regarding the use of it.
In the end it would be a win-win situation => more online player wich then eventually will result in more visitors for the website.

I like the way you think Burn. I do NOT enjoy mission bugs at all.

Re: Mission Bug returns
When doing missions (no matter the location it's spreaded all over the Void once it arrives) you do not encounter any enemies at the mission waypoint and you can't abort the mission (only by F1-ing out of the game it can be aborted)
The cause of this bug could be a new player not having the correct mod ( or any mod) installed and crashing out to desktop.

Re: Mission Bug returns
Yep the bug was there last night too. I was constantly greened about it. I have seen on some other Mods that none Modded players could access the game but could not leave NY or the system that they start in.

Timing of the problem is critical for me, before after 11PM gmt last night?. If your not sure, I'd rather you said not sure.

Re: Mission Bug returns
Ok allowing unmodded players to join is one thing, but the instant they lift off from manhattan they'd immediately crash anyway because new york has two extra planets, no minefield near the alaska gate and is invariably filled with modded ships..
So if they join and are prepared to just sit there (which I doubt) that'd be ok..but they never do..we used to be able to catch maybe 15% of unmodded players and get them to download the mod but most of them we caught just left to play elsewhere rather than coming back mod installed.
Overall it's better for stability to just block any attempt to connect by people not using the correct mod.

Re: Mission Bug returns
Couldn't you just have an error message when they can't connect saying:
You do not have the right Mod installed for this server.
Visit [url] to download the necessary files.
Forgive me in advance, I have no knowledge of how hard modding stuff like this is.

Re: Mission Bug returns
I find it interesting that the day I turn the version checker off, so as too speed up everything, we have this problem again.
On restart @ circa 4pm, today I will turn it back on and see if we have the same problem running it over the next 24 hours.

I have made the changes which will check for the mod version, this will take effect on server restart. I;ll run this for 24 or 48 hours and see where we get upto with it.

That's exactly what i was thinking!I find it interesting that the day I turn the version checker off, so as too speed up everything, we have this problem again.
I actually saw a player nicknamed "der" stuck in the Manhattan planet ring so i knew right away that the "Mod version Checker" was turned off probably due to player complaints finding it a little bit vexing to wait up to 15 secs for their characters to load.
In the end it's best for the server so let's stick to it untill a better and faster solution is found.

Re: Mission Bug returns
I like the checker - filters the unwary and those that cant be @rsed to read simple instructions.
I will keep an eye out for mission bugs too.
