"connection could not be established" [somehow fix

Post by Paulo »

Hi!

I recently purchased Freelancer as i heard it was similar to eve only you can control your ship directly, and no servers would appear when i tryed to play multiplayer, after some googleing i found this site, followed the instructions on installing the void mod, the global server workaround and getting freelancer to work in vista.

The game runs fine, i can retrive the server listings, but i cant connect to any server. I have tryed reinstalling the game, uninstalling Avast!, disableing my firewall, port forwarding and trying to connect to the server directly through the modem to no avail, i keep getting the same error message. I am running the game in administrator mode and with the compatability set to XP but i just cant get it working, Oh and ive also disabled IPv6 for the connection.

here is a link to a screenshot of the error i get: http://i37.tinypic.com/2daev6p.jpg

Im looking forward to sorting this out and being a member of the void community and hope somone knows howto fix this.

-Paulo

edit: shortly after posting this it started working xD see you in space :)

I get the same error when i tryed to connect to server and know how to fix it, problem is in your firewall  and in Antivirus system  people if you using Nord(ESET) or other antivirus program then uninstal it and don't forget to turn off windows firewall when you playing Freelancer.Good luck.

I get the same message as Paolo. I instaled windows Vista with Norton antivirus. Uninstaling it is not an option so is there any way to turn make it stop "protecting" me for a while?

It's not a 100% solution m8's,but this prb can apair in XP too! Try to set the firewall to gaming mode-before first running FL!
If y don't,it remain (FL) blocked even y disabled the Antivir, cause settings remain in net option.Or, y can put FL in allowed setting box (antivir firewall &vista)  I was playng FL with Avast finely, but watch at settings !
4S_SQUAD m8! pm me, when y hear about player who can play FL with Norton installed,if he don't disable it first!
Mb not Vista is the problem! Y also try set it before first run of FL!
Hope some of this can help Y!(my pers.experience Mb don't match at y)
c ya and hope i 'l read y resolved Yr prb.! :)>-

If you use a Router try to connect without it. So i mean connect directly the cable in the modem if you have one. I had a Router once i couldn't connect with. With that one i have now it works fine.

good luck!

Before start FL,right click on norton icon in taskbar. When y launch FL and the server select window apears on screen , put it in task bar and watch if i don't have a Block- Unblock request from the firewall. c ya!

hi guys,

I am having the same problem as detailed here, I am using a white listed antivirus software, AVG. I have disabled the firewall and the web shield but freelancer still would not connect to any servers at all, It is really annoying as I have wanted to play Freelancer for a few weeks now but cannot. It used to work a few years ago but I stopped playing it and only just decided to get back into it a couple of weeks ago. I have windows Vista Home Premium and have read through the tutorial and done the direct connection thing but none of it worked, Anyone got any suggestions for what I can do to fix it?

Also I decided to reply in here because I thought it was better then starting a new thread when one already exsisted, so sorry if I have done something that I shouldn't off done by replying to a 2 month old thread.

No buddy you posted in the right place.

Stupid q: are you using a router? If so, the problem might come from there.
Another one: do you have the latest mod installed? The link can be found in this thread or on the home page of this site.
Are you running FLMM in admin mode?

Besides that I wouldn't know m8, sorry. But I bet a lot of other - more IT-minded people - might know of other solutions.

Anyway good luck. Hope to see you in the deep black called Void soon.

Hi Mike25,

Further down the post this was posted:
My AVG updated the other day, and ever since I haven't been able to connect with a Freelancer server.  I uninstalled, and FL works fine.

So, AVG may be ready for the 'black list.'

Still looking for a workaround (I paid for full AVG.)
Seems AVG will have to go on the black list if it works after you uninstall?

I am on a router, and completely forgot to add freelancer to the allowed list so maybe thats the problem, I'll have a check later when I get on my laptop. I do have the latest version of mod installed, I decided to try my XP PC to see if works on there and then work from there, if I find a solution I will put it up here. Hopefully its not AVG, if it is I'll just switch Anti virus.
