Come on people! We have our mouths full of this server loosing players because of cheating and what not, but when new enthusiastic players turn up, we won't even help them sort their problems?

How many of us have had Vista issues, got sorted and now play here??? TIME TO REPAY THE FAVOR PEOPLE!!! If you really care for this server, this is an occasion to put your advice where your mouth is!

Not Advertising here but can you get on any other Freelancer servers try one that doesn't us a mod. That way you can eliminate  connection problems and narow it down to MM or the mod.

One last thought that has sprung to mind is to try turning of the UAC, i.e. that annoying bit tahat asks you for permission every time you try to do annything. The problem you describe is useually always caused by security of some shap form or description. As Asmo asked do you have any problems connectiong to Vanilla servers?

@ Asmodeus Tried de-activating Void mod, still no go!!! DOH!!!!   :-? Also tried other mods and its the same with every server/mod.

@ Verminard I turned UAC off the minute i installed Vista... I agree that is so annoying (UAC) ...

Does anybody have any idea why it shows the Void server in the list and even gives me my 49 Ping and tells me how many players are on the server but then wont connect, i don't get that because obviously im connecting to the server to receive that information.

I'm gonna ring Micro$oft back and demand they figure this out for me. After all it is their Vista and they made Freelancer also so they must have a conflict in the config files or something along those lines. I will post any helpful info they may have  to sort this out.
If they cant sort it then i will go out today and buy a third HDD for XP......

Thanks for trying guys, appreciated!!

I know its a pain but If you do end up getting a a third HDD for XP,  get a USB or Fire-wire one that way you can stick it into any PC or laptop so you will not have this problem again.

Point taken.. Cheers.

Still waiting for Micro$oft to ring me back, they tried to blame it on a Mod until i told them it does the same without the mod.
They also suggested that my Internet Provider might be blocking it.

My provider is O2 Broadband (UK), is anybody else on O2 that can confirm this is not the case before i buy a seperate HDD, even if your on Windows XP cos i would think that it would be the same with XP....

ok 1 more suggestion, I asume that you are using a router to connect to the internet,  If its all mods and vanilla that you can't connect to then I asume that this is a routing problem and a port that FL uses is being forwarded to the wrong place. If you can try turning on the DMZ function of the router and pointing it at the IP address of your Vista machine, you may have to assign a static IP to the MAC address for the network card, to get this to work.

I'm running a Q6600 overclocked, 3gig RAM Geforce 8800gtx 768mb and Vista Home Premium 32bit SP1. The only time I had this problem was when I changed from ESET Nod 32 to Avast (big mistake cus i was too cheap to renew Nod) as soon as AVAST was removed and Nod put back on no problems. Now I know from previous posts that u use Nod so there is no problem there, which is what makes me think this is a routing problem, you need to make sure that none off the ports that FL uses are being forwarded to the wrong place, or just being dropped. Most of the time you know if your ports are not being forwarded because you can't see any servers, but because there now no longer is a global server, and we all use direct connect, this may no longer be the case.

I run Vista.. I tried everything for about 2 days.. couldn't get it to work.. then last night i finally got rid of AVG, and i connected instantly..  I was thrilled..  Until today, when i tried to play and i keep getting some "connection taking too long to respond, hit ESC to cancel" error... when i hit esc i get the standard "connection interrupted, may be connection settings, etc" error.... This is very frusterating.. I have tried ALL the tweaks and tricks i could find in these forums... I HAD it working yesterday.. Today it's not... I'm out of ideas... :(

Nooooooo!! Wounded, rebooted my pc thinking something is wrong with my config in Windows thats stopping me getting on Void... So i rebooted, went to services.msc, stopped iphelper, defender, firewall, security centre the lot.... Not even put any security software on it yet... Still the same error message.. wounded!!!!

so i thought Its gotta be something to do with O2, my t'internet provider, phoned them no problem there...

So the conclusion.... Freelancer is a one player game for me!!!  :D .... Stupid Vista...... But i wont go back to XP..... Micro$oft claim its a problem with the servers im trying to connect to, but i know its not... Its Vista!!!!! Admit it you bunch of Micro$oft scumbags!!!
Tho to be fair they did ask if i was having the same problem with any other games, which im not... Even games older than FL still work online but FL wont...

On the good side i have just aquired Mirrors edge which is awesome to keep me going....

Always look on the bright side of your life.. D,d.....d,d,d,d,d,d,....

One last thought could it be because my Freelancer is a copy with a no-cd patch... I cant see it because i know a few friends who live near me that play it with a copy, but they on XP.. So could it be that Vista doesn't like .EXE fix to play online.. The one player works perfect...

I use the no-cd patch with no problems, so I don't think it's that. Still trying to think of something we all may had missed, but nothing yet.

YIPPEEEEEE... The Pigeon flies again!!!!!

Right for future reference to vista users that have a huge problem, this is the answer, well for me anyway!!!! Vista uses packet data in a different way to xp, in vista if 1 packet of data is only half full it keeps the packet open so it leaves Vista more room to optimize the connection speed!! ... Where in XP it cuts half packets off, so in vista it results in a packet overload ( to many simultaneous connections ) when connecting to the FL server (i dont no why). Thats why you get a ping but not a connection!!! Some of you may notice when downloading torrents with vista that your browsing cuts off or goes stupidly slow!! The same fix applies to torrents!!

This only applies to Vista Ultimate that is built after August 08'....

If you have the same version or the same problem as me go here half open....

Hope this helps other people, took me hours to work out!!!

Note to Admin.... Please Add ESET NOD32 to the blacklist cos the new version does not allow the server to connect!!!! Others still work fine tho!!! :D
