Scream on
I'll come right to the point.
The last few months I haven't had much fun playing or even being here anymore. There are various reasons for this and I won't bother you with all of them. The main idea though is that after stepping back for a little while and looking at Void and especially the community, I have come to the sad conclusion that it just isn't attractive to me anymore. The spark is gone for good, it's like the glow Void once had, has vanished. It also seems that the main focus in the entire community lies on nit-picking, moaning and whining about all kinds of small and insignificant details. Along with the increase of ego and selfishness, for me it has become a place where the negativity overshadows the positive things. (Although I know the opposite is true, I know that)
I have always found my own personality conflicting with the huge ego's of some of the members of our community, not understanding why people just can't get themselves around the simple fact that we are talking about a simple PC game here, and we come here to play around and have fun. I have the feeling that I - and we - keep walking into walls. Not too long ago I was very active on the forum and couldn't close one single day without knowing what was going on in our community. Present day I cannot be arsed anymore.
The fun in actually playing I lost quite some time ago already. But then I was invited to the Guard team and it re-motivated me, hoping that I could be of some importance, of in any case be of meaning and service. Although I feel I have done the best I can, looking back on it, it is not what I expected in many ways.
Unfortunately, not even the prospect of an entirely new mod with a lot of great surprises can keep my interest aroused.
Apart from all that there's the simple fact that the game itself is aging slowly but certainly. In my time off recently I have been checking out a potential replacement for Freelancer, and played the Eve Online trial (FFS why did they make that so incredibly complicated) and looked into Jump Gate Evolution, which is practically Freelancer pimped up. As good as Freelancer may still be, it does not stand a real chance to games like that. Even though you have to pay for those.
JGE has sparked my interest and is close to its Beta. Within a few months it will be released, and I will playing it.
So it ends here.
Now this is the spot where people like to list a whole bunch of players. I could list a whole bunch of you to whom I would like to say thanks, but the list would be endless. I have gotten to know a lot of you quite well, and most of the times it was a pleasant experience. So in general, thank you for sharing every supportive gesture, your jokes, your inspiration, motivation, the laughs and even the few tears. Spending over 2 years on Void was an experience in many ways. It has been a privilege playing here and being part of the community that is Void.
On second though there are a few people I would like to mention by name.
- Asmodeus and the wife.
You guys are some of the most modest, civil, patient and wise people I have had the pleasure of knowing here. You have taugh me a lot with your insights, I will not forget you. Keep FAQ kicking as long as you can guys. Your loyalty to the team has really impressed me.
- Dynasty.
Hey pal, I won't forget you either. We did a hellufa job with FAQ, and I'm dam proud of doing it with you buddy. You're a great lad, and have come to be close to a friend to me. All the best to you matey.
- Apocalypse. I know you will be reading this bro. All I can say is I wish you would have stayed.
- Zebulon. Hey you old fart I have always seen you as my mentor in a lot of things m8. I have deep respect for how true you are to your values, it's not an easy thing to do with oppositions all around. Thank you for all of your teachings buddy. And keep the stick swinging.
- Gan. Didn't expect that one eh m8? Although we haven't been acquainted for too long, there are very few people who are as straight to the point and completely honest as you are. Although a lot of people have problems dealing with this, I think it's what makes you an honorable person m8. I salute you.
- A whole bunch of others. It's been a privilege.
I would like to thank all of you for playing together. It has been a privilege knowing you and I have learned a lot.
Leaves me to wish you all nothing but the best. I hope you can keep the Void kicking for some time to come.
Mav signing off.

Beware the siren call of shiny, current-generation graphics, my friend. Being developed more recently does not a good game make.Maverick wrote:As good as Freelancer may still be, it does not stand a real chance to games like that.
I see what you mean about the community, though.
Best of luck.

Re: Scream on
Goodbye Mav,its really sad to see you going and i would say i didn't expect this after all it hasn't been much time since you got into the Guard Team.(I wonder whether there was a trigger beihnd your decision)
Last time when we celebrated your B'Day here in Void,i did say-You are the life of this community.
And i would still stick with it,a part of Void is going away with your departure.
You have done a lot for Void-
Helping in FAQ-2,a greatly improved Event Team, associated with a number of clans and you have left a legacy behind in the form of revived clans like Saints(though i wonder what will be the fate of Saints now),great posting in community site, contributions that will be remembered a lot especially the great amount of RP you brought in and mostly a great Voidian.
Sure you were controversial but that is because you were a Maverick in many things you did.
A reply above has shown little grace, respect and basic courtesy proving you are right about the community,hmm...people don't say bad things at the funeral.
*If you can't show respect to people when they are leaving then you don't deserve to be here no matter how great a player you are.*
(But i would say its only handful of 'weeds' that needs to uprooted, the rest suffer because of a few)
GL.
It could well be possible that you could be back,JGE will take some time to come out.
