Ok true...but for maintaning a BS u need a shipyard...or a space dock...
Tripoli Shipyard in Omicron Gamma owned by Corsairs

Imho it is currently used only for fighters, its asteroid field is natural defence against larger ships, but for maintaining Bs' or gunboats it should be moved out of asteroid field and it sould have port attached. Due to their well organized crime activities they should have enough resources to upgrade their fleet and shipyard.

Funny coincidence that you guys should bring this up - since a couple of days, us Reavers have been experimenting with doing better RP by sticking to unlawful (and neutral) bases/planets. We're thinking of making it an official guideline, but it's still under discussion. Most of us are tired by the endless respawn wars, which all clans do, and keeping to the evil RP makes it actually more fun - it makes you feel more evil :P

However, I see no problem with buying ships from lawful planets. You can just RP it as stealing ships from them - it's actually quite fun :P For example, soon after the mod update came out, three of us went to Omi Delta to get some ships. The 4S found us soon after we "bought" them, and they did a pretty decent attempt at trying to stop us from leaving. That made it a lot more interesting than just going in, buying the ships, and flying out. You could say that we earned those ships :D

The only thing that's pretty ooRP is using jumpgates - but tbh, you can't really skip those in the Void mod. Alex is simply too big for that, and getting from Alex to Baby would be a huge detour.

Also, there's no need to buy equipment from lawful bases, as almost everything's available at unlawful (or neutral) ones. The only thing that comes to mind that's not is the Nomad Nirvana (from the Order :P), but those have become useless now :/ However, if you think about it, lawful clans would be hurt quite a lot from not being able to use Nomad equipment. No Fearbringer mines, no Nomad armor upgrade, and also, no Nomad lasers... You think any of them are gonna do proper RP? :D
Also, not being able to use Nomad jumpgates would hurt them pretty severely, too. (For example, the clans of Nomad 1 would have to go evil with their RP to be able to leave Nomad 1 for places other than UK2 or Tartarus :D)

Oh yeah, after all this, back on topic: battleships. I see no problem with getting some, so long as you RP that you stole them. That ain't unfeasible at all. (Remember all those huge Reaver ships from Firefly? :P) That would also be fun, if all the battleships had some stories behind them. There's a big lack of RP stories now anyway :/ The only problem is that since all moors belong to the same faction, and capital ships can't dock at bases (not even at Tripoli Shipyard), docking with your capship anywhere is ooRP - unless you explain how you're doing it. (We're working on that :P)

So, the surprising conclusion is that if you wanna do real RP, evil is actually a better choice on the Void. It's not viable to keep to it a 100% (for another example: did you ever try entering Alex when hostile to the Robots? :/), but doing it more properly can be surprisingly fun :) (You want in on that? You know where to go :P)

As to the RP aspect, even the NPC's dont stay in character, for example you have Bounty Hunters flying Nomad Hybrids in Alpha

......."pssssst! yeah, you...Pirate boy! Wanna buy a Battleship? One careful owner, no documents though, they are in the post...."

Or its the VOIDs version of "Gone in Sixty Seconds"  - "boosting" Battleships and other vessels.....!

Liberty Police Officer: "Excuse me sir, is this your vessel and can I see your insurance and drivers licence..?"

Battleship Test Results

Battleships can only be purchased at Ports. Ports are run buy a neutral Port Authority. Port rep is not the same as the planet rep.

With a full Pirate rep applied to my player test character "firebird" I could indeed buy a BS, any BS in fact.

For any player to buy a BS, you must have explored and located the only open initial port of purchase. Until that time you will not be able to dock at any Port in a regular ship.

Mind you as a pirate I would not want to be stuck in a huge slow moving ship, but hey its up to you what you fly. ;)

- Enjoy the Game. See you in Space.

Thank you for the test. One reason a pirate clan might want a battle ship would be to be used as a strong armory, another might be to bring fighters into a system to raid it and use it as a restocking point for battles that are in lawful systems where they cannot dock to resupply.

Just a couple of thoughts on it.

Ok, RP is a nice fluffy thing and we all love it. But please please please let's not go too far with it. I don't think a load of faction RP rules would really have a place on the Void.

I wouldnt suggest for one minute that we go down the Discovery line at all - that would kill this place deader than a dead thing. However I wouldnt describe RP as "pink and fluffy" either...!

Frankly Id just rather see Battleships gone -but thats just me. Unless they actually FLY like a battleship and not like a lightfighter then I dont see the point. But you all know thats what I think anyways, so just covering old ground.

I for one would like to see a restriction placed on the number of battleships per faction. Why? Lag.  You try holding a Battleship PvP event where everyone turns up with their Battleships... I would be interested to see the results.

I know of a game where in order to have a battleship you need to have at least a crew of four online AND they all have to "fly" the vessel - one on the helm, one on radar and the other two on guns ....! Dont ever see that happening here as it would be data thirsty and unworkable.

Be glad that there is not a faction ship restriction or weapons embargo in place here.  Try and keep your RP's as tight as possible as this does lend to better game play overall. Personaly I feel that we are not far off the balance factor for including both excellent PvP and RP on the server.  Keep up the good work chaps!
