-Norton Internet Security-

Post by TheLaughingMan »

oky i saw many places issues with this multifunctional security program
hopefully my cheap english will be clear enough;p
if you have any problems try the following steps
try to configure manualy the internet acess at fireval section
open Nort Int Sec
then -
- Status & settings
- personal Firewall (select it)
- configure
- second tab called Programs
- add
- select freelancer.exe in the fl/exe folder
- on the list you can choose betwen options ( alow / deny / manually configure internet acess )
- choose allow
- be sure you activated the mod 1st
saddly every time you change mods you have to do this again if the mod contains the freelancer.exe file
and / or if you connect to server via LAN
another problem can be if freelancer frozing on your screen and the alow / deny dialog can't be apear

Yeah, using a Windows PC directly connected to the internet, without any kind of firewall, can be a pretty bad idea. Especially if it's unpatched. If you're behind a router that has a firewall turned on (for example, most wifi routers have by default), you can pretty much safely switch whatever software you're using on your OS.

Also, in case Freelancer doesn't seem to get through your firewall, the game uses the 2300-2400 UDP ports for multiplayer.

Technically uses 2300-2304 UDP. Wouldn't want to leave people to open.

I'm using the Windows firewall and my router's hardware firewall.  I got annoyed with ZoneAlarm and Comodo's 20 gazillion pop-ups.
