I seem to remember from my class that the sun will turn into a White Dwarf (its a yellow star now I think(yes it will also turn into a red giant before turning into white dwarf) and that earth will die in 5 bilion years due to the planets core dying. Then again I might be mixing information here, so dont quote me

Unfortunately, man has chosen to set up home in many such places that are realy not that good an idea to live anywhere near what soever. If you think that the haiti and chilean quakes were bad, just wait til san fran gets hit, it will happen at some point, lets hope that ample warning is given so that some will be able to get out of the way; but surely, for a city of that size, can anyone expect to be able to evacuate so many people?
What about yellowstone? Last time that one burst it wiped out a large part of north america, and the effects were felt worldwide for a long time afterwards. We're talking major obliteration here.
Then theres naples, tucked into the side of vesuvius, and we all know what happens when that bugger goes pop!
Mother nature provides life and somewhere nice for us all to live, yet on the other hand the mechanisms that are involved in her up keep of the planet can deal some pretty nasty blows if you aren't prepared.
We need to respect our home, so that whilst we are lucky enough to still be living here we dont screw things up for those who come after us. Also its just a matter of respect. man made ideas of impending apocolypse type eveents are a load of hogswash, what happens happens. Help those who need it when they are effected by disaster, and dont act surprised when the city you built on a volcano/edge of a tectonic plate/floodplain gets munched up.

There's something different with world war 2 and the days now. Please refrain from WW2... That has happened an everyone has learned.

The only fools who would use them are terrorists. Or an accident like a fire in the storage facilities.

I don't think humans will start nuclear war. People are stupid (especially in large groups), but still, we can very well see the consequences of two major powers nuking each other. Not exactly a total global nuclear winter, but anyone within range of either the blasts of the radiation is probably screwed. Not to mention making crop growing either suicidal or impossible. Only a human racked by confusion and faced by the threat of the death of thousands - probably including themselves - would dare use that sort of thing for anything other than intimidation.

btw, Xenon: The USA pretty much had to do that. It's either nuking, or the systemtic conquering of the nation city by city, costing millions of military and civilian lives. The costs to rebuild would be insane, for both the Japanese and the Americans (and any other nations involved), and the human loss would just have been unacceptable. Would that have been better than just the atrocities of two oversized bombs? Just look at what happened in the Pacific theatre. So many resources wasted with ineffective strikes and inch-by-inch island captures: that would have been Japan. Although, on the plus side, with the technological advancement brought on by the prolonged war, Judgement day probably would have happened in the 70's, and we wouldn't be arguing about this right now.

Nothing Different , we still living on the same earth mate , and the same powers still exists and the same nuclear threats still exists , so it's not so different from world war and now as you saying - and i would like to remind you that terrorists can't afford nuclear technology , but bigger incognito masked terrorists can have it if you know who i mean.

anyway thats not the issue we discussing - so what about the Yellow stone volcano ? the tsunami all over the world , the global warming ,, and how you think this happened? there is only one answer , Technology and tests , Human ignorance about mother earth ... and soon it will stand us no more and will kick us either outside the atmosphere due to loss of magnetic effect and gravity when the solid iron core inside the earth is affected or eat us inside it buy emptying it's loads on us , LAVA mate , even highest technology can't evade that disaster.
